Biddeford Pool house description
This remarkable modern property is a Biddeford Pool landmark, just steps away from the sand and sea. Designed and built in 1972, the Camera House is the talk of the town. Its grand exterior is matched by its open and spacious interior. Large windows provide unparalleled views of the harbor on one side and the ocean on the other. Occupying the first lot on the beach, this home's bold architecture bolsters its premier location.
The house's floor plan encourages interaction between every room in this seaside home. Cushioned benches line walls of glass on the ocean side. The entryway opens into an expansive living space that centers around a wood burning fireplace and features a flat screen tv, sound system and dvd player. A unique gaming table and chairs occupy an adjacent seating area. The open dining area is separated from the kitchen by a pass-through wall and complemented by an elevated benched window seat. The kitchen contains a casual counter top breakfast nook so that you may stare at the sea while sipping your morning coffee. Through the pass-through wall, diners and chefs may communicate between the dining and kitchen ares.
When the sun is high, relax in lounge chairs on the huge oceanfront deck. Later in the day, follow this wrap-around deck to the elevated entry side deck and take in the beautiful sunset over the harbor. An additional wooden patio on the ground level functions as a grilling station and outdoor dining area.
When you want to view the beach from above, move through the master bedroom (containing its own master bath looking out onto the beach) up to the tower. At the top of a spiral staircase, the tower’s window seat is the perfect place to read a book or stare at the ocean for hours. Heated by the sun on three sides, this room is a warm escape.
The upstairs contains three bedrooms in addition to the Master. Two of these bedrooms face the ocean while one faces the harbor, which is home to lobster boats and sailboats housed by the Biddeford Pool Yacht Club (BPYC). At the top of the stairs that wind between the two floors is an open walkway. This space allows you to see both the downstairs area and the expansive ocean view through oversized windows. A slanted window also invites the viewer to look towards Hattie's Restaurant and sun setting over the harbor.
A ten-minute walk into town brings you to The Pool Lobster Company for groceries, fresh Lobsters or a burger. For a longer walk around this small community, one passes the golf course, croquet and tennis courts belonging to the Abenakee Club. Continue down Lester B. Orcutt Boulevard and you'll discover the rocky coast of the East Point Audubon Sanctuary. After a walk around East Point, follow the coastline, which brings you back to the beach. If you're feeling adventurous, stroll the length of the beach for two miles to its end at Fortune's Rocks.
Upon your return to the Camera House, climb the wooden steps that are the home's private beach access and relax on the outermost deck with a glass of wine. Most importantly, enjoy Biddeford Pool!

Year Purchased: 1972
About the owner: My siblings and I are lovers of both our home and Biddeford Pool. This unmatched idyllic landscape is an escape into a restful and relaxing frame of mind. Our family has vacationed in Biddeford Pool for over 60 years. Our house was designed and built by our parents in 1972 as a family summer retreat. My siblings and I are all artists, inspired mostly by our time in Biddeford Pool. I am a photographer, my Brother is a musician and web designer and my sister is a painter. We hope you will appreciate and enjoy our beautiful home and its wonderful location as much as we do.
Why the Owner Chose Biddeford Pool:
We inherited this house from our parents who bought the land and built the house in 1972.
