Idaho Springs cottage description
Welcome to the Miner Cottage, a restored 1892 miner's cottage located just two blocks from historic downtown Idaho Springs.
The Miner Cottage features all the comforts of home, including electricity, running water and indoor plumbing. In other words, it's been updated, but not too updated.
The living room has two leather couches and a large leather hassock, all perfect for your doggie to stretch out on for a nice nap. Did we mention it's dog friendly? There's also a wood-burning stove to keep you warm and toasty on those cold mountain nights.
The main bedroom is located off the living room and features a queen size bed with pillow-top mattress cover. The second bedroom, located off the kitchen, has a unique bunk bed, with a full size bed on the bottom and a twin bed on top.
Don't feel like sampling the wares at any of Idaho Springs' fine eateries? You're in luck, because the modern updated kitchen has a stove, refrigerator, microwave, toaster, coffee maker and a full set of pots, pans, dishes and silverware. There's also a brand new gas grill in the backyard.
The bathroom is indoors (none of that corncob nonsense on your vacation!), with a full size washer/dryer, toilet, full bath/shower, soap, towels, hair dryer and assorted toiletries. It's also been updated with a new sink and toilet, and we lowered the floor eight inches back to its original height.
For your entertaining pleasure, the cottage has a 32-inch flat screen TV, cable, WiFi, DVD player, games, books and movies. There's also a fenced back yard with a new deck and patio set.
The Miner Cottage is SMOKE-FREE, but also DOG FRIENDLY. Best of all, it's AFFORDABLE, with rates starting at just $95/night, with a $75 cleaning fee and $200 refundable deposit.

Very Comfortable Stay
Very Comfortable Stay
We really enjoyed our stay at the Miner's Cottage! It is in a great location, with downtown Idaho Springs just a short walk away. It is a very warm and comfortable house with all the necessary amenities and nice beds. We also greatly appreciated being able to bring our dog. You will not find a better value in the surrounding area.

Wonderful Visit, Pet Friendly
Wonderful Visit, Pet Friendly
Recently stayed two nights with my partner and two terriers and loved it. It is everything promised and felt like home. The treat basket was a great surprise. The dogs loved the backyard and we felt safe with them back there. Would definitely go back. Easy access to Mt. Evans road, a trout farm, city park and Guanella Pass for sightseeing. Loved it.

Hi there. My wife and I stayed at the Miner's Cabin for three nights to visit with relatives in Denver and do a little business. From the moment we entered the cabin til the moment we left we were totally in awe at how much we felt at home. Privacy, convenience, and coziness reigned the entire stay. The bed was to die for. My sister in law came to visit us and commented that she wished her kitchen at home was so nice. We will definitely be back. Thanks for the treat basket, it really hit the spot when a hankerin' came around!!!

Clean, Convenient and Just Perfect
Clean, Convenient and Just Perfect
We were looking for something unique, and boy did we find it. We came to the Denver area to attend a wedding, but we didn’t want to stay in yet another boring hotel room. This cottage has charm and history, and has all of the modern conveniences that you'd want in a vacation rental. Everything from top to bottom in the cottage is very clean and the linens are fresh. We also found the beds to be very comfortable. If you like to cook your own food while vacationing, the kitchen has everything you’ll need. The grill works very well also, as we had perfect steaks on our last night. The cottage is located within easy walking distance of all of the restaurants, shops and anywhere you’ll want to go in Idaho Springs. We really liked being able to leave our car at the house to explore the town. There are plenty of family friendly activities nearby. During our stay, we panned for gold at the Phoenix Gold Mine, which is a few miles west of the cottage. We drove up Mt. Evans, which is directly across I-70. We rode the train at the Georgetown Loop, which is about 12 miles to the west. We also swam at Indian Hot Springs, which is located at the other end of town from the house. There are also plenty of adult activities, including enjoying locally brewed beer with burgers at Tommyknockers, which we did on our first night. Last, but not least, I found the owner to be more than accommodating. As others have said, there was a candy basket waiting for us on the kitchen table. My son was absolutely thrilled to see that. Also, there is a basket of bathroom items to use in case you forget something. I maintained some email contact with the owner while we were there, and I always knew that he was available if we needed him. However, he never once “checked in” on us other than to email me to make sure that we got into the house without a problem on arrival. Although I did not personally meet the owner, it is clear to me that I made the right choice in renting this home from him.

Great Week at this Cottage
Great Week at this Cottage
My 2 dogs and I were at the cottage the week of July 4th - we all felt very at home; the place was spotless and totally fit the description on the website - fully-furnished kitchen, etc. The owners have obviously worked hard in the restoration and have done an excellent job. I booked some spa services at the Indian Hot Springs - they were excellent. Another gem not to be missed is the library which has recently reopened after a 2 million dollar renovation - it is beautiful and no problem to obtain a guest pass for wi-fi. We enjoyed a drive to Georgetown - I am sure the rail tour there would be wonderful but dogs probably not allowed.. I hope to return to the cottage (any time of year).

When we pulled up in front I was a little apprehensive about the size. But once inside was amazed there was as much room. It is located on one of the two main streets in town only two blocks from the shopping and restaurant area. We didn't get to spend as much time exploring the area as we would have liked so there is a very good chance we will be back next year.

I would highly recommend this cottage. It was clean, well stocked and ver comfortable. We travel with two dogs and it worked out great for us. There is also a small fenced in backyard that we were able to let our dogs out in while we took advantage of the gas grill. The location was fantastic. There are lots of dog friendly hiking trails close to the cabin that we would hike on during the day and then we could walk to town in the evening if we wanted to go out to dinner. There are 5 or 6 restaurants just two to three blocks away and a grocery store 1 mile away. We will definitely go back.

I could not have imagined on first reserving the Miner Cottage how much we would enjoy our stay here. What a beautiful home and much-needed escape for us (and the pups) this turned out to be. Can you ask for more than fresh snow, a growler from Tommyknockers, a warm fire and Scrabble? Thank you so much and we hope to visit again soon!

Year Purchased: 2011
About the owner: We both grew up in the midwest (Ohio and Indiana), but always knew we wanted to live in the mountains. After nine years in Colorado Springs, we moved to Denver, and a few months later bough the Miner Cottage. We're huge dog lovers, and we always had a hard time finding places we could take our dogs on vacation with us. That's why we tried to make our vacation home as dog-friendly as possible, with furniture they can play on and a little yard that's great for them to poop on.
Why the Owner Chose Idaho Springs:
We love Colorado, and we love the outdoors, but we all also love the trappings of civilization. You get both at the Miner Cottage: you're right in town, but you're also only a couple minutes away from the Great Outdoors. Being a couple blocks walk from a yummy brewpub is also a huge plus. The chance to bring a 120-year-old house back to life was an interesting challenge as well.
The Unique Benefits at this Cottage:
You can't beat the location. Two-blocks from historic downtown Idaho Springs, and a couple minutes from I-70, means you're close to everything. And it's dog-friendly, which makes every vacation more fun.
