Cozy Coastal Retreat
- Minimum stay:7 nights

Retreat to this cozy, coastal getaway with a spacious view deck that features stunning views of the Pacific and Santa Barbara's Channel Islands. Seaglass Cove is such a wonderfully unique retreat. Cashmere and marble coupled with old wood floors and a seaside casualness make for the perfect 'safe harbor.' Thoughtfully furnished for rejuvenation and perhaps even hibernation, with attention to artful, quality details throughout, this charming one bedroom unit will envelope you in comfort. Upon arrival, one enters the driveway to park in an off-street, privately designated parking spot adjacent to the front entry. On the way up the driveway one passes the organic vegetable garden, young fruit trees and terraced hillside with lush green view lawn. Once inside the large window-lined living room, the ocean views call you to the deck. Through French doors you enter a private deck with potted plants and a table for two. But for foggy days, the views are truly captivating! Back inside, you notice the new down-filled sofa and ecclectic furnishings including the works of local artists on the walls. The new flat screen TV is hidden away but easily accessible in the large antique hutch. In the kitchen are slab marble counters, a refurbished, vintage Tappan stove, otherwise new appliances and charming windows and a doorway leading to a back entry and the laundry. The kitchen is fitted with quality basics and then some. (If you have a special request for something that is not already featured, I will consider providing it for you.) The cozy bedroom is a sanctuary of quality and comfort with an antique, queen-size four-post bed, multi-thread-count sheets on a pillow top mattress and custom made bedspread with throw pillows, as well as other special furnishings for your ultimate slumber. Though the interior details are special indeed, inside or out the highlight of the property is the view, which features the daily, ever-changing art scapes of Mother Nature herself as she paints the sea and the sky around the Channel Islands. Walk into the sweet town of Summerland. Relax on the beach. Hike the local trails. Or take a drive up or down the coast and explore Santa Barbara and beyond. This is a special sanctuary for two.

What a lovely rental! Comfortably furnished with decorator touches that make it special. Loved the kitchen with the antique (but very usable stove). Had everything that we needed for our 10 day stay. Enjoyed morning coffee on the deck, with great views of the ocean nearly every morning. Beth was a wonderful hostess and provided us with great tips on things to do and places to eat in the area. We'll definitely be back again!Recommended for: People with disabilities, age 55+, romantic getaway.
Owner response: Thank you for your lovely review Casandra. It was such a pleasure to have you and your husband. Thank you for taking the time to share your enjoyment of Seaglass Cove. It really means a lot to me. Most gratefully, Beth Goodman and family.

Even though loaded with "charm," way too many little decorative items created clutter and did not disguise the fact that some things just did not work: hot and cold faucets in the shower were not safe; limited kitchen equipment (no cereal spoons, overly rustic pottery coffee cups, etc.); very small refrigerator made so much noise we had to sleep with the bedroom door closed, to name a few. The small deck had a view over the highway and the railroad tracks (typical of area) to the ocean. A short drive to Dog Beach, which was beautiful for birding and walking. Easy driving access to Montecito, Santa Barbara and the area vineyards. Do not miss The Sacred Space in Summerland. Other: I did not check off 55+ recommendation below because Queen four poster bed would be difficult to get into and out of if you were short and old.Owner response: Dear Guests~ I am genuinely sorry that you did not enjoy your stay at Seaglass Cove. It is my goal that I make my guests happy in every way that I can. The fact that you were not satisfied weighs heavy on me. I am truly sorry. I will look into the things that you mentioned and see if there is anything I can do to improve the property. That said, I want to add that this is a quirky old house. It is the price that it is because it is not perfect. For all the things that it is and is not, I think it is an incredible value. It is hard to find a basic hotel room in the Santa Barbara area for that price, never mind one w/a lovely kitchen, living room, and expansive views. I have done my best to provide fine linens, handmade elements, local artists' works and other quality touches, like fresh organic fruit and flowers. Most of the appliances are brand new (last November) including the toaster, microwave, coffee maker, and frig, (among other new elements like the tv.) The old stove is from the 50's. I have it calibrated and serviced whenever necessary and there is even a signed copy of the book, "Old Stoves are Hot" by the Old Stove Guru who services it. I had no idea that you would not love the handmade, artisan coffee cups. Nor was I aware of your need for a different size spoon. The frig is small because the space for it is small. But if it is making more noise than I have noticed, I will look into replacing it. I know you were not interested in reading the reviews, though I did encourage you as I encourage all of my guests, in the process of booking, to look at the reviews on both this listing and the sister listing, Seaglass Lookout (393364) because of the information they provide, both positive and negative. I do ask every guest, to please call me if there is anything I can do while they are here, to let me know if there is anything they need. I can not make it better in the present moment, if I am not asked. Truly, dear guests, I would have loved for you to have a perfect stay. Again, I will look into these matters you have presented. It is my goal to continue to improve the experience for everyone. I wish you both all the best.

My sister Merry and I had a dream like 12 day getaway from the Seattle area to sunny California. Our last week was spent perfectly situated at Seaglass Cove in Summerland, just 6 miles south of Santa Barbara. We were greeted the evening of our arrival by Beth and her son, who both hugged us and then took us on, what turned out to be an enchanting tour. The main living and dining room areas were candle lit, the french doors were open allowing fresh ocean breezes to enter and fresh flowers adorned every room. A large wire decorative basket held an enormous collection of oranges and bananas for our stay. And finally our tour ended with hugs from Beth and her son. My sister and I were in AWE and still are. Absolutely nothing compares and I would not stay any other place than Beth Goodman's property in Summerland. From the cottage we could easily walk to the main street in Summerland offering many shops and eateries. The beach is also within walking distance. My sister and I found our mornings to be quite long, as our sense of contentment to simply soak up the ocean view while sipping coffee, eating sliced oranges and toast was tranquil and just what one needed to begin what would often turn out to be a busy afternoon and evening. It feels to me that I'm sharing a "Best Kept Secret", with you all today. Happy and safe travels, one and all.Recommended for: Sightseeing, age 55+, romantic getaway, girls getaway.
Owner response: Dear Sisters~ It was my pleasure to have you as our guests. Thank you for your beautiful words of contentment. I know it is easy to get on with a busy life and not take the time to write a review. I am most grateful that you did. You are welcome here any time and I am excited that one of you will be back again soon to enjoy Seaglass Cove. Thank you again. See you soon. Most Sincerely, Beth

What an absolutely wonderful time my husband and I had at Seaglass Cove. This was my second visit to Summerland; the first being in June 2012 with my daughter and we had stayed at Seaglass Lookout which was absolutely perfect! My husband, being a first-timer to Summerland and California, could not have said more good things about the "Cove". It was very comfortable, the scenery from the balcony was perfect to view the beautiful sunsets, and the accommodations couldn't have been more perfect. It was nice to be able to enjoy the mornings by having our coffee and breakfast at the "Cove" without having to rush to get out the door for our first cup of the day. Beth is such a wonderful hostess and she is sure that everything is to your liking and/or expectations! Beth always has the best fresh fruit and flowers upon your arrival which makes a guest feel very welcome. Cannot wait to go back to Summerland and enjoy everything that the area has to offer. A big "Thank you" to Beth for such a great place to stay. You made us feel very welcome. Thanks again.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, girls getaway.
Owner response: Dear Pam~ Thank you for being our guests and for writing such a lovely review. It helps so much to have your perspective for other guests to read. I am most grateful for you taking the time to write the review, and LOVE that you have already been a repeat guest to the property. I can't wait for you to be back again. Thank you again Pam~ Thinking of you with gratitude. Sincerely, Beth

We pass through this area once a year and are always looking for a special place to stay. And we found it with Seaglass Cove! Everything was just perfect for my husband and me. It was tastefully decorated, clean, and well-maintained. The kitchen is well equipped and the refitted Tappan gas range was so fun to cook on. Fresh fruit and flowers welcomed us. We felt so pampered. The location is great for walking to the beach, to the town for lunch and shopping. We basked in the January sun on the private deck and often just relaxed there. The view of the ocean is spectacular! We enjoyed the owner and felt that she was easy to work with when making the arrangements. Seaglass Cove had recently been remodeled and so the pictures accurately show this charming rental. We hope to return again next year, but we are thinking that we will have to make reservations early as I am sure that many people will realize that this is a very special place. Thanks for sharing your cottage with us.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, tourists without a car, age 55+, romantic getaway.
Owner response: You two are wonderful. Thank you for that lovely review. It was truly my pleasure having guests like yourselves who enjoy life so much and what Seaglass Cove has to offer. I am sincere when I say, I am looking forward to your return. Please come again soon and often! Most Gratefully, Beth and family.

About the owner: My name is Beth Goodman and Santa Barbara is my beloved home town. My family is deeply connected to this beautiful community. A small business owner nearly all of my life, my focus has always been on design and real estate. A former floral designer and flower shop owner, I love decorating, especially with flowers and still create the occasional wedding and special event. Real Estate is also in my blood. I am a licensed Realtor in California and Arizona. I feel passionately about homes - primary residences and vacation homes alike, and finding the right one for each of my clients brings me great pleasure. Helping my clients find a home, or creating a space that makes my guests feel at home (including getting out of the way to let my guests privately enjoy) is what I love to do. I love creating and transforming spaces to welcome, nurture and inspire my guests. From the furnishings to the gardens, to providing healthy bowls of organic fruit that welcome each guest - I love being a vacation rental owner, it seems a perfect marriage of my passions. I also love getting to be a resource for visitors who are coming to see this beautiful community. Santa Barbara and the surrounding area has so much to offer. I love connecting people with that which will truly resonate with them. This is such a truly special place, I look forward to sharing it with you.
Why the Owner Chose Summerland:
Summerland is a town situated on rolling hillsides that overlook the Pacific Ocean. Everything is oriented toward the sea. This property, among a hillside of other beauties, is so breathtaking. Believed to be built in 1880, when we bought it late in the summer of 2011, it needed some love and attention..and we have been hard at work ever since! In the gardens, terraced flowerbeds and succulents, rock walls and a gorgeous view lawn, as well as an organic vegetable garden highlight the landscape. A glorious Phoenix Canarianthus palm creates a dramatic focal point, (that is - if you are not simply staring straight out to sea.) Inside, Seaglass Cove is a unique, charming and private piece of this long-standing triplex. The cozy, enveloping nature of this unit wraps you in comfort and ambiance. Each of the three units on this property boasts truly special qualities and views. While not any one occupant is truly alone on the property, each unit experiences a uniqueness and a privacy that makes for a beautifully, individual lifestyle. So the land itself is lovely and the charm of the old house combined with it's location on the planet (here on the coast near Santa Barbara) make Seaglass Cove (and it's sister property Seaglass Lookout) a very special place indeed.
The Unique Benefits at this Cottage:
Seaglass Cove is walking distance to the sweet, unspoiled gem-of-a-town, known as Summerland, CA. The views are spectacular, especially true at sunrise and sunset when oranges, pinks and reds highlight the Channel Islands on the horizon and the waters of the Pacific sparkle like diamonds over deep shades of blue.
It's the best of California and specifically Santa Barbara, and at a price that is truly a bargain.
