Less than 30 minutes from Honolulu International Airport and Pearl Harbor, this is a vacation property that offers you close proximity to most all points on the island, but still has the beauty and serenity of a true rainforest experience. Quite literally centrally located to most points of interest on the island it is a short 15-20 minute drive to Kailua's beautiful white beaches and the Mokulua Islands. 30 minutes up to the Polynesian Cultural Center for the day (a must see) or keep going and check out our world famous North Shore surf spots and big waves in the winter months. Less than 30 minutes out of Honolulu, this location gives you access to Waikiki nightlife if you want it and you can still wake up in paradise.
This is a large 400 square foot studio. It was originally designed as a guest accommodation to the main house for the owners live in nurse (Floor-plan on photo page). It is the perfect 'vacation rental', with a large, well equipped kitchen and Serta Perfect Sleeper Queen Bed you will feel right at home. This is an ideal studio for couples. First offered as a vacation rental in 2004 it was totally remodeled then, right down to the studs. Recently renovated in late 2013 with fresh paint, new tile floors and a tropical decor, with a 26' flat screen HDTV in the bedroom. Your special little place in paradise awaits you!
NOTE: We will be doing a major 2 room addition and new roof to the main house as well as a new lanai on the rental. We do not want our guests to be disturbed by the daily construction on at the main house; so we will reopen the rental in the Fall of 2015 when the house addition and both new lanai's are complete. UPDATE: 5/5/15 Our permits have been delayed so I have just opened up some of the dates we had previously blocked off, June 2015 is now available to rent. Our anticipated new construction dates will be July 1, 2015 - Sept. 30. 2015. This rental will be closed during that period. :)
We encourage you to read the previous 'Guest Comments' on all VRBO properties you are interested in. Guest comments are like E-Bay feedback. They are a good source of information for potential guests to evaluate properties via unbiased visitors such as yourselves. As owners we cannot edit or delete comments that are less than favorable. The only way to eliminate negative comments is to 'kill your guestbook' and restart it. About the owner: We retired from our lives on California's Central Coast in 1991 to move to Hawaii. Since then we have lived on Oahu's North Shore. We are fortunate to have our children and grandchildren also living here in the islands. We are active with multiple animal and children charities and are grateful to be living in such a special place.
Why the Owner Chose Ahuimanu: After living on Oahu for almost 4 years we stumbled across this property in 2004 while just driving around exploring. Although there was NO 'For Sale' sign but a neighbor noticed us admiring it and asked if we were intending to buy it. Indeed the elderly owner had passed and the house was for sale. We knew right away that this house had a lot of potential and the views were absolutely breathtaking. Our only son and his wife graduated from UH and became teachers. One of the most underpaid and unappreciated jobs in Hawaii (paid less than city bus drivers). This studio rental helps them to supplement the mortgage, insurance and tax payments on this property; they occupy the main house.
The Unique Benefits at this Studio: Unlike the hustle and bustle of a Waikiki or condo stay this rental gives guests a unique opportunity to spend their time on Oahu 'living local' as they say here.
