A step back in time
The town of Polebridge is a diminutive, quaint community on the border of Glacier National Park. With its residents few and its power supply non-existent, Polebridge is one of the last places in America that can claim to have always been off-grid. Though the general store and saloon are powered by a generator, the place really does give the feeling you've stepped back in time. Choose a Polebridge vacation rental, light the candles, sit out on the porch and pretend that you're living in the past for a few blissful days as you escape from the city.
Independence Day fun or a grizzly run
Remote though it may be, the folks who live in Polebridge and the hundreds who join them during the summer months know how to have fun. Fourth of July celebrations see people flock to town for the wacky Polebridge parade and pageant. It's an ad hoc affair, but everyone joins in the party. Another big date in the Polebridge calendar is Le Grizz 50-Mile Ultramarathon. Every October, more than 100 runners take on one of the hardest double marathons in the world. The race sets off from The Polebridge Mercantile and Bakery.
Surprisingly busy in summer
The best times for a Polebridge vacation rental deal have to be during spring and fall. Before and after the summer, when the area is less busy, the flowers are in bloom and animals out roaming. It's also the best time for hiking when the weather is slightly cooler. During the high season, Polebridge gets surprisingly busy for such a small place. During the winter most businesses close, but you can still find lodgings. If solitude is what you crave, strap on your snowshoes and you can have the place all to yourself.
America's natural zoo
The huge expanse of Glacier National park surrounding your Polebridge vacation rental is bursting at the seams with wildlife. Given that it's such a big area and has been a protected park since 1910, you can find everything from herds of elk and moose to deer and mountain goats. The park is also home to some of America's largest predators. It's not uncommon to spot both grizzly and black bears wandering in the foothills. Packs of wolves and solitary mountain lions also call Glacier National Park home. You can also keep your eyes peeled for wolverine and lynx.
