Ellerson House is a true Craftsman Bungalow design with all original doors, windows, beams, floors & fireplaces. William R Ellerson was a businessman in Asheville and Madison County. He was a business partner with E.W. Grove - builder of Grove park Inn and the Grove Arcade. The two local giants were acquiring land to build a "Grove Park Inn 2", in Hot Springs, when Grove died in 1927. Ellerson built the house in 1920 for his new wife - who was a descendent of the founder of Hot Springs, William Nielson.

With soaring vistas, high ceilings, massive fireplaces, impeccable attention to historical details and hard wood floors, you will immediately feel pampered at Ellerson House. The great room, with plenty of space to unwind, and fully equipped, large chef's kitchen and dining table for 14, is where everyone will want to gather to enjoy their time together. But, if you need some “alone time”, there is plenty of space inside and out to find your own serenity. There are 3 outside porches, decks, and patios for ultimate outdoor relaxation.

There is plenty to do at the house, including a full "Play Barn Game Room", separate from the house for hours of fun, with pool, ping pong, corn hole and more. The back porch has a gas grill, dining table and hot tub with views into the Pisgah National Forest The expansive decks & porches are just off the Kitchen/Great Room & out the side door, and off the rear terrace level. All of these afford additional outdoor space to relax & unwind. Everyone enjoys the front porch, it's fireplace, the rolling river and the night sky as it fills with stars.

Take a seat and enjoy the sound of nature and the serenity in your own private paradise at the top of the world. There is also a private trail down to the river!

You are just minutes from trails, water holes, horseback rides, motorcycle touring, biking, hiking, white water rafting, rock climbing, kayaking, canoeing, zip lining, and the local smoothie & ice cream shop. Local restaurants offer fun to fine dining with weekend live entertainment. The Hot Springs are a local must for a relaxing soak!

Perfect house on a hill~

  • 5 of 5

We were there for our son's wedding. We hosted my husband's siblings for a total of 8 adults and then hosted a dinner party for some wedding guests. Plenty of room for everyone to be alone or sitting together on the front porch looking out over the town of Hot Springs. The game barn was a hit with grandkids and adults.

The kitchen is well stocked and made cooking meals easy. We didn't use the grill but it was right off den on the deck. The hot tub was fun and had a nice wooded view off the back deck.

The bedrooms are comfortable and most have baths private baths.

We enjoyed our time at the Ellerson House and in Hot Springs, NC. If you are down in the town you can look up and see the Ellerson House, which is pretty cool. Make sure you take in the mineral hot tubs while you are there. Cell signal was poor for our carrier, but that only added to making the most of family time. The wifi signal was fine. It was not enough of a big deal to give any less stars. If I were to go back to this area, I would stay there again.

The Ellerson House Autumn Girls' Weekend

  • 5 of 5

The Ellerson House with all it's exceptional amenities made our getaway so special and memorable. The house is equipped with every kitchen need (the only fireplace 🔥 we used was in the kitchen to take the chill off.), The generous towels supply for use in the beautifully remodeled bathrooms 🚽 was greatly appreciated. All slept comfortably in the linen supplied beds.

Lots of us used the gaming/ recreational building with much enjoyment. 🎱 🏓

The charming town of Hot Springs provided enjoyable restaurants and warm North Carolina ambiance. We came to hike and were not disappointed with the nearby hiking opportunities. Absolutely first rate in every way!

Hot Springs is located at the confluence of the French Broad River and Spring Creek. A natural hot spring is also located here, the only such spring known in North Carolina and in much of the southeastern United States. Thus, this area has long since been a destination for those looking for therapeutic relief from their ailments. The town itself is becoming ever more popular as a modern tourist destination, for aside from the springs, outdoor recreation is abundant in the area. The Appalachian Trail runs along downtown's Bridge Street and climbs the mountains on either side of the river. Rafting and kayaking is popular on the French Broad River itself. There are numerous other hiking, mountain biking, backpacking, and sightseeing opportunities in the nearby Pisgah National Forest.
