About Michael

My wife and I built our dream house on the North Shore of Oahu because its location offered the perfect balance between beach, people, and things to do. Within steps from the house in one direction you can be diving in a marine sanctuary; in the other direction is the nearly always deserted Keiki Beach. The historic town of Haleiwa, ten minutes down the road, has great restaurants and many cute shops to explore. If golf is your bag, the world famous Turtle Bay Resort is also a very short drive.

Michael purchased this house in 2006

Why Michael chose Haleiwa

With just over an acre of land I was able to build a 4800 square foot house and still have plenty of garden for fruit trees and a expansive lawn.

A little piece of of heaven in the heart of it all!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I have been to Oahu many times in the past. We typically visit the North Shore and stay on the other side of the island. We booked this trip as a family vacation for both sides of our family and wanted the full experience of relaxation and vacation. That being said we have a 15 month old and an almost 3 year old so vacation's can not only be difficult with travel but also finding a place that accommodates them as well as our parents. This property was the perfect fit for all. Not only was everything we needed at the house but it was close by to everything as well. We were a quick walk to the food trucks, Shark's Cove, and Foodland. The house was equipped with surf boards, snorkel gear, sheets, towels, and all cooking items. The layout was perfect for a big family but felt like we all had our own space. My mother (who can't typically survive without a/c) was perfectly comfortable in the house because of the great circulation and fans.

I can't say enough wonderful things about Michael and his wife he was there anytime we needed anything. He even brought us bananas from a tree on the property and coconut juice. This place was truly a dream...we felt like we were out in the middle of no where in a super quiet and peaceful environment. There was also an awesome fenced in lap pool we enjoyed when we didn't feel like going to the beach! I not only highly recommend this place I will be coming back every year to enjoy and experience the true Aloha!!

Fantastic home, perfect location

  • 5 of 5

Michael was so friendly & made sure we had everything we needed, the bikes & pool were fun, the location was perfect, amazing food trucks, Foodland & beach just across the road.

We loved Francis the peacock visiting every morning while we had a fruit breakfast from the garden.

Would definitely recommend Plantation House for a home away from home.

Thank you so much Michael.

Fantastic North Shore getaway home

  • 5 of 5

We just visited Mike's home in late June. I'll break my review up into several sections, but overall we had a wonderful experience.

Location: The location is really great. It's set back far enough from the road that you don't hear much traffic. It's a stone's throw from beaches, food trucks, and a grocery store. It's a very tranquil setting with all of the lush fruit trees and birds. It is just out of earshot of the beaches.

Beaches: Sharks cove is either a 1 minute drive or 5-7 minute walk. It's a little tricky with the busy road and no real walking path in that direction, but it's proximity is great. Snorkeling here was awesome and there is a kid friendly side near the tennis courts with great waiting pools if you have little ones. In the opposite direction of Sharks cove are some wonderful remote beaches. It's literally a 150 feet up the road and a really easy walk (you just need to cross Kamehameha Hwy - a two lane road). Since there isn't a plethora of public parking, the beaches were super empty. There is a really nice bike path set back from the road that goes up over 2 miles. The beaches here were great, nice surf, small waves (not pancakes) in the summer. Waimea bay is a 5 min drive and is awesome, parking can be tough.

Food: There is a great selection of food trucks right across from sharks cove. The Elephant Shack Thai truck was seriously awesome. There is also a really good Foodland right next door for your everyday groceries (was very reasonably priced).

Home: Mike has done a great job with this place. It has an abundance of outdoor decks that are great for lounging or eating on. Easily sat a family of 8. The kitchen was huge and well stocked with the essentials. The rooms were comfortable and the house was very nicely decorated. The house also has a great mostly private outdoor shower (there are giant rocks blocking views into it). There are really nice winds that pick up during the day and evenings. With all the windows down you get really good ventilation through the house. All that being said, if you're looking for AC there obviously isn't any. There is a great ping pong table and tons of outdoor space for the kids to run around. There is also a pool, it is shared with Mike, so it's not exclusively yours to use, but it was a wonderful reprieve from the ocean for the kids.

Lastly, I'll not Mike is a very gracious host. He was kind enough to cut us fresh fruit and answer all of our questions. We'll definitely be back!

Owner's Response: I feel so lucky to have the opportunity to host families here at my house.I meet interesting people from all over the world that are very often first time visitors to Hawaii. The look on the faces the last day of their stay here always tells the same story. Sad to be going but yet glad to have had the experience. Michael

Breathtaking property on the North Shore!

  • 5 of 5

We couldn't have picked a more perfect location and home for our vacation! Mike was extremely nice to work with, he has a beautiful home that has been meticulously maintained inside and out! We were able to pick bananas and limes and coconuts right from the yard, the plants and trees provide a peaceful and secluded perimeter around the house from any neighbors. The home itself is very large, 4 bedrooms each with their own bathroom, plenty of other sleeping mattresses and blankets and pillows and towels, the kitchen was fully equipped with everything we needed including an outdoor grill. We loved the 50 meter lap pool too! The property is within walking distance to a grocery store and some really good food trucks! It's also within walking distance to an amazing beach! There's a perfect little town about 15 mins away called Halaeiwa! We enjoyed shopping and eating in several great restaurants there. Overall we couldn't be more pleased with this home, we highly recommend staying here in Mike's breathtaking home on Oahu!

Hidden treasure!

  • 5 of 5

Loved our stay at this large home. Four adults and two teenagers had plenty of room for privacy or hanging out together. Just a short walk to the beach, but felt secluded in a private nature preserve. Michael, the owner, was a joy to work with. He responded promptly to any questions we had and even picked some fresh mangos for us. Highly recommend this home if you are looking for a special place for a North Shore vacation!
