Overview

About the property

Come and enjoy this private tropical retreat. Our home offers 2 bedrooms and 2 baths! The master bedroom is upstairs and offers a comfortable Cal-King bed with nice linen, new pillows, a flat screen TV and DVD player. The second bedroom is downstairs with a view of the pond, a king size bed, it's own bathroom with stack washer and dryer, a TV, and DVD player! From the living room you will enjoy comfortable Teak and rattan furniture with a 65 inch curved screen television, DVD player, CD player and WI-FI. The upstairs also has its own stack washer and dryer for convenience.. Every room has its own ceiling fan as well as the Lanai!

From the living room you have an expansive view of our private pond as well as a koa wood eating bar for having your morning coffee while feeding the fish from above. Our pond is home to native fish and our resident turtles Maui and Moana. We also have a frequent native Hawaiian bird called a Auku'u or (Black crowned Night Heron) named Cray Cray. He just loves to have you fish for him!. Out doors next to the pond you will find a lower covered Lani complete with a patio set, BBQ, and mini fridge for your convenience.

This home sits peacefully in a tropical surrounding just a 2 minute walk from the Famous Waio'pe Tide pools which is home to one of the most diverse populations of fish and coral in all of Hawai. The Tide Pools offer incredible swimming and snorkeling in calm, protected water.! A mile drive down the Red road from our home is a beautiful Public Hot pond, Ahalanui Park, that is very therapeutic to relax in and enjoy the benefits of the mineral water and beautiful scenery. Ahalanui Hot Pond is a natural pool fed by a fresh water spring and the Pacific Ocean. It is warmed by underground volcanic sources and water temperature in the pool can reach to a balmy 90 degrees!

The Big island offers hiking, sight seeing, fishing, snorkeling, zip lining, and of course the "Volcano" which can be seen by night or day on foot or by boat tour. Near by Kalapana offers a resort with therapeutic massages. Pahoa town which is a 15 minute drive has many good places to eat and small shops with a lot of the Aloha spirit the Hawaiians are known for. You will not find a more restful spot. If you love farmers markets you will find a great one in Hilo on Saturdays and a very nice one near Pahoa on Sundays. There is also a local zoo, the Mauna Loa macadamia nut farm, and Akatsuka Orchid Gardens to visit. Too many things to list.

We hope you will decide to visit!

Disclaimer: Be aware that this is a tropical island. This is the rain forest side of the island. You will encounter various bugs and you will have rain. We do our best to insure a bug free environment as much as humanly possible in and around our home. Nothing is poisonous on the island. We are not responsible for acts of God or nature. You will not be refunded for things out of our control. The Wi-Fi is sporadic and there is no satellite tv. Due to the heavy foliage on neighboring property we can not get reception. Movies only. If you stream using Wi-Fi you will use it up quickly.. Thank You!

Great house in lush tropical surroundings

  • 5 of 5

The house was great, with comfortable beds and furniture. There were a few bugs but not very many, and it was to be expected in such a humid area. We loved the neighborhood and the tide pools a short walk away. Although it rained every day, we were still able to get out and see so much!

Owner's Response: Im so glad you found the house comfortable.. Bugs unfortuneatly are part of a tropical island experience! We are in a lush private spot but a 2 minute walk from world famous snorkeling at the Wiope tidepools ..

Hawaiian tropical paradise

  • 5 of 5

This is one of our most favorite places that we have stayed. But it might not be for everyone.

The setting is like none other. It is about a block to the ocean and the tide pools with great snorkeling. The house is private and secluded even though there are other houses nearby. It has a deck and patio that make the house feel bigger than it is. With the overhang, we were able to eat every meal outside even when it was raining. The open air family room makes you feel close to nature and you can hear all of the birds singing. And the owner was responsive and very helpful.

One thing to keep in mind is the rainforest setting. It would be impossible to keep all of the bugs and critters away. We did see a few cockroaches and lizards. But we feel the accommodations and setting were well worth it.

Owner's Response: We are so pleased you enjoyed our home. It is definitely a unique setting and we loved it for that reason. It's like what old Hawaii use to be without all of the resorts. We hope you will return again! we are always improving to help make our guests stay memorable.. Mahalo 😊

Exactly What We Were Looking For

  • 5 of 5

From the moment we stepped out of the car we were in love. The winding path to the house took us through some greenery and beside the pond. The fish were quick to greet us, and very soon after, Maui made an appearance. The house itself was perfect for the two of us. It had a well-stocked kitchen, the bed was comfortable, and the the shower was big. The downstairs bedroom (not connected to the top), had a beautiful view of the pond. My husband snores, so I slept downstairs a few times and found the bed very comfortable. The outdoor living space is very large and could easily accommodate 6 people. It'd be a great place for two couples to vacation and still have privacy.

We've stayed in the Kapoho area before, so we knew we had close access to the tide pools - which is why we chose this home. The snorkelling was fantastic.

The only thing to be aware of with this rental is very unreliable internet access. The first three days we were there, it was great. We had three days of rain, so was able to watch Netflix in the evenings and stay in touch with family at home. After that, the internet was barely accessible. As there is no cable or satellite, the only option was to watch some of the DVDs provided when it started to rain (and there was a good variety for all audiences). We had some issues going on at home so it was difficult to stay in touch with them, but we managed. We wanted a vacation to help us "unplug" so we didn't mind. We played Scrabble and read books. However, if you have teenagers who can't survive without internet access, you probably wouldn't have as enjoyable a vacation. :)

We loved feeding the fish, watching Cray Cray fish for himself (he actually caught two good-sized fish!), and feeding lettuce to Maui and Moana. The geckos provided endless amusement, too. :)

We loved it. I would definitely recommend this place to friends and would stay again.

Owner's Response: We are so happy you liked our home! The internet is a problem for us due to the heavy foliage in the area. Satellite is not an option unless our neighbor takes down 3 trees. That's not going to happen in the near future.. 😉 We are always improving and like guests ideas and comments. Thank you!

Clean. Nicely furnished. All the amenities. Beautiful setting. Close enough to services.

  • 5 of 5

For two artists seeking inspiration, this location was perfect for our two-week stay! The house was great and the location is unbeatable. It's off the beaten path but close enough to services and a 5 minute walk to amazing tide pools. The property has a large pond with fish, turtles and a resident Black-Crowned Night Heron. Also saw Cardinal, Yellow-Billed Cardinal, Zebra Dove, Spotted Dove, Saffron Finch an Japanese White-Eye in the yard. Plus lots of Gold Dust Day Geckos. Look them up! So wonderful! If I ever go back to the Big Island, I will book this house!
