Nice Weekend / Family Get Together

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I rendezvous'd with my cousin and his wife at the Penland Cabin for a weekend. It was perfect for our purpose. We spent each day out hiking (one day on Roan High Knob, another at Linville Falls). Both are close. And the evenings, we spent around the fireplace cozy. Had great weather and saw emerging fall colors.

Happened upon a town fair in Bakersville and bought a book, Moonshine, Murders and Mountaineers from the local author Allen Cook about the wild history of Mitchell County. Had a great time reading it aloud around the fireplace.

Cooked our meals in the cabin's kitchen. There is a lovely sunroom where we ate. So many windows we almost felt we were outdoors.

It was an easy weekend. Everything worked. Nice shower. Owner was very nice.

A hidden affordable gem !!

  • 5 of 5

Where do I start !?!? We are a family from Florida with an 8 year old who has been asking “Santa” to see snow for two years now!! Jada went above and beyond as Santa’s helper and decorated the cabin and received and hid a box of gifts for me to make our Christmas at this cabin magical. The cabin was super clean, cozy, tastefully decorated and inviting. We could not have asked for a more comfortable setting to celebrate the Birth of Jesus and each other.

Upon arriving I noticed every meticulous detail from the stocked wood, paper and matches by the fireplace to the towels laid out for use. Jada left us a wonderful box of cookies to enjoy over the holiday and was superb at communicating with us.

We relaxed by the fire with family games after our Christmas Eve dinner and to our surprise it began to snow .. how perfect !! My son woke up Christmas morning to presents under the decorated tree and it was more than I could have asked for !!

My sons gift was snow tubing and skiing at Sugar Mountain .. it was a beautiful 40 minute drive that we enjoyed both times. We had a blast skiing and did not want to leave the area. There is so much to do and see within an hours drive from the cabin that we unfortunately did not get to experience due to it being a Holiday week.. looks like we will just have to happily return at a later date to explore more !! We did however catch this quaint coffee/antique shop on our way to sugar mountain that was open .. We had hot fresh apple cider and bought two big bags of fresh carolina apples from wooden barrels.

We were fortunate enough to have time to stop at Linville falls on our way home.. It was worth the mile hike in the cold as it was beautiful with the cascading icicles on the ledges.

We have already been looking into our calendar on a date in which we can return in the spring or summer to enjoy some hiking in the area and the wonderful cabin again. Thank you again Jada for your top quality hospitality. We had an amazing Christmas !!!

Cute, Nature, and Off the Grid

  • 5 of 5

This little farm cottage is very cute and cozy. the owner stayed in contact with me and make sure I had everything that I needed. It was actually bigger than I thought. If you want to get away from the strain of bustle and enjoy nature and the beauty and sounds, you will not be disappointed.

Relaxing stay at Penland Cabin

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I just spent 3 days enjoying this rustic mountain cabin with everything one might need available, even a pod coffee maker. All linens were supplied. One thing I particularly enjoyed was quality cookware to use for meals. Made cooking meals all the more enjoyable. Our bed slept great! We enjoyed many firsts on this trip and met some very interesting people. If you visit from May to October, visit the Blue Ridge Soap Shed. And, visit Shawn Ireland's pottery shed on Penland Road just beyond the Pitman Road turn off to the cabin. We enjoyed talking with him and seeing his pottery. Making time to visit Roan Mountain is a must. Awesome views and beautiful drive seeing the mountain ranges even though the leaves did not have the color this year that we have seen in the past. While we didn't spend a lot of time in the cabin, when we were there we appreciated all the extra touches that were provided by Jada.

Excellent cabin

  • 5 of 5

This is a cute little place in the middle of NC mtns. It is close to Spruce Pine (a cute little town wish some coffeeshops, art galleries, etc), Bakersville (gateway to Roan Mtn and appalachian trail), and about 10 min from the Blue Ridge Parkway. It is also about 10 min from the Penland School of Craft, where you can check out a nice gallery, have some good food, and take a class. We stayed for 2 nights over labor day and just spent the time seeing the sights and sounds of the area.

The cabin itself has everything that you need. Washer and dryer are new and work well. There are plenty of sheets an comforters. The heating units work very well and kept the cabin cozy. The place was clean when we arrived, and we had no trouble communicating with Jada when needed. We made a bonfire one night and that was really nice. The TV and internet worked without issue. Our phones did not have reception, but i guess that is what you get in the countryside.

Owner's Response: Likewise, we enjoyed your visit and your family. The cuteness of your little baby is still filling every corner of the house! I am glad you had time to ravel around. The proximity of the cabin to attractions nearby allows our guest to visit more than one place per day. I look forward to hosting you again. Cheers!
