Built in 1948, this 3 bdrm, 2 bath, 1,344 sq ft stone cottage boasts country mountain charm with large moss rock fireplace, hardwood floors, and knotty pine paneling in the living room and master bedroom. Originally built by local residents Ray and Helen Buck to be their "country" home, I am the proud the second owner.
Ray and Helen's wooden Bellie Acres sign was found in the attic collecting dust; hanging it on the fireplace retains a bit of their personality in the home. Helen is well known for donating the land for our local animal shelter in Dumont, Charlie's Place, named after her beloved German Sheppard.
Over the past several years I have lovingly remodeled the home while maintaining the original design, character and imperfections ;-) It is still a work in progress, with the fenced side/backyard locked off until landscaping is complete.
The cottage décor is warm and cozy with an eclectic feel of mixing old with new. Most of the light switches have dimmer tabs so you can adjust the lighting to your preference.
As you walk in through the carport entry, you are greeted by the "rock room." Once an exterior porch area, it was enclosed by the Buck's. The old gas wall heater was upgraded to thermostat controlled gas fireplace to complement the forced air furnace and wood burning fireplace.
The kitchen features gas range, refrigerator, dishwasher and walk in pantry/utility room. The kitchen is stocked with just about everything you will need for your vacation with a good selection of pots and pans, dishes, utensils and a small coffee grinder. I encourage Guests to recommend any items currently not provided, that would make their stay more comfortable. We want you to feel at home :-)
The laundry room has front loading, stackable washer and dryer, small iron board and iron. Laundry soap and fabric softener are provided. All bedding, towels, and paper products are provided, as well as travel size amenities in each bathroom.
The master bedroom features the original knotty pine paneling, oak hardwood floors, pocket doors and walk-in closet. It has a tall king size bed you can jump in. The exclusive master bath retains the original in-wall medicine cabinet, cast iron bath tub, tile walls & floors with upgraded toilet and vanity.
The 2nd bedroom has twin sized bunk beds, flat screen television with DVD player and Direct TV receiver. It also includes a children's book and DVD collection. 3rd bedroom has full size bed and walk in closet. The 2nd bathroom is conveniently located between the bedrooms.
Chicago Creek flows year round and is located across the road. You won't be able to see the creek, but you can hear it. There is a small cottage and fenced area directly across the road from the house, this is for occasional Owner's use only. Creek access thru this part of the property is not permitted.
Although there is blocked wood on the property, firewood IS NOT provided. However, I have filled the living room log holder for Guest use and ask that you replace whatever you use, for the next Guests. Firewood bundles are available for sale in town.
With both my VRBO properties, simplicity is the focus. It is my goal to provide Guests a place for relaxation, comfort and quality time together. There are two televisions, in the living room and 2nd bedroom, both have DVD players and Direct TV receivers. Board games and cards are in the living room tv cabinet for your enjoyment. Satellite wi-fi is provided by Exede.com. The internet service is fine for general internet use, but not for gaming or streaming on several devices.
Chicago Creek Road is also known as Highway 103, a scenic highway that loops all the way to Evergreen. Most of the year the road is lightly traveled, in the summer months it is frequently traveled by motorists and bicyclists alike. You'll have front row seats for the famous Triple Bypass bicycle race!
This is a tight canyon so cell service is minimal to non-existent depending on your carrier. A land line is available for local calls and emergencies.
Bellie Acres cottage is located 4.5 miles south of the Historic District of Idaho Springs. The home is close to several area attractions: a 1/4 mile to Mount Evans Trout Farm, a 1/2 mile to Blackstone Rivers Ranch Event Center, 4 1/2 miles to Ava Rafting/Zipline Company and Historic Idaho Springs.
It is also a short drive to the many fun activities in Clear Creek County: Argo Museum, Georgetown Loop Railroad, Nat'l forest, Mt Evans, Echo Lake, gambling in Black Hawk/Central City, skiing, hiking, fishing, camping, OHV trails, rafting, zip lines, Lawson Adventure Park, Indian Hot Springs, and the Phoenix gold mine tour.
