Roostica was even better than expected
This was such a great escape to Highlands for a week. The house and grounds were as described in the listing and photos and better in person actually. The combination of a comfortable family friendly space with multiple areas to relax and unwind coupled with very tasteful design was just what we were looking for.
Of course, the location is just about perfect. Getting into town is quick and easy, and there are numerous outdoor activities that are close by. As a family we especially enjoyed the ability to use the kayaks on beautiful Lake Sequoyah. The private dock was easy to access just cross the road at the end of the winding path through the backyard of the property.
We would certainly enjoy returning to this property again without any hesitation.
The cottage is better than the pictures. It has alot of space...Loved the screened in porch! The fireplace was a dream. Super close to the town of Highlands...convenient to restaurants and shopping. Would definitely recommend.
Such a wonderful place.
Renting was very easy.
We enjoyed our stay! Beautiful vistas. We appointed cottage. Perfect location.
Peaceful and amazing. Just note that boat dock is across the street behind a guard rail and not attached to property. Loved it all the same!
About Ashlee Maitland
My husband, John, and I are hopeless romantics with a weakness for great food, natural beauty, and beautiful surroundings. We live on Lake Lanier, Georgia, and first encountered Highlands on a winter getaway. Somehow, those mountains just kept calling. After staying at various inns and rentals, we found Roostica online. The water view, nearby dining and shopping, plus the cottage’s proximity to nature at its most beautiful and dramatic was perfect. But so was the cottage itself—a light filled reflection of Highlands’ natural beauty and wildlife. At the urging of a friend (who came with us and also loved the place), I left a note for the owners, Ruthann and her husband Eric Ross—the talented Nashville designer who redesigned it. The note began: “If you ever consider selling Roostica...” To our astonishment and delight—mostly my delight, my husband’s still astonished—we were contacted just weeks later, and the rest—as they say—is history. To ensure you experience the same high level of service that garnered Roostica its rave reviews, we kept the same team that the Ross’ originally assembled. The property is just as it was when featured in Cottage Journal magazine—Winter 2017—and we are so happy to share it with you.

Why Ashlee Maitland chose Lake Sequoyah
We loved Roostica the moment we walked in. The feeling of seclusion, the reflections on the water, the obvious love and thought that went into the cottage’s decor and updates made us instantly feel at home. It was the perfect size for a couple—we weren’t dwarfed by its dimensions. Yet Roostica easily accommodated 8 when our adult children came to visit. On a recent stay I realized there were 11 people sitting comfortably in our den, and having a heck of a good time! In a nutshell: Roostica’s “expandability”, its location next to world class dining and shopping, and the dramatic beauty of the Highlands was, for us, an irresistible combination. We hope you enjoy it as much as we do.
What makes this House unique
Roostica is fabulous for a romantic getaway, but also suited for a larger, or multigenerational, group. Access is only one step up from the drive, good for those with mobility issues, or strollers. Parents can sleep upstairs for privacy, or on the main level to be close to children. There is also the lower level for watching cable TV and playing games. Here you’ll find rainy day books and games, plus ground level access to the back yard. With the basement half bath, a daybed and trundle, this area best suits young teens and children, with the added plus of a laundry room for mom and dad. We hope you find Roostica Cottage as flexible as your needs. Please come and visit soon!
