Bears Den cottage is located on a dead end mountain road backing up to the Pisgah Natl Forest, just N. of Asheville. It is just minutes from Navitat, WNC's only zipline!! The home is decorated to match the mountains, easy going and peaceful. Sit by the creek on the property or listen to the roar of the river below. There is hiking at Douglas Falls down the road. The lawn is beautifully landscaped with different varieties of flowers all season long. When in season, pick fresh blackberries and raspberries in the front yard. Enjoy a book or glass of wine on the wrap around porch or soak in the 6 person hot tub that sits up on a deck. The property is very secluded and quiet, yet close to many fun things to do...including whitewater rafting, gem mining, shopping, restaurants and the Biltmore Estate. It is the perfect vacation spot, we love it and know you will too. Behaved Pets welcome.
Our Mission: It is our goal to provide you with everything that you will need to make Bear's Den your home away from home. If you have special requests prior to arrival, we will do our best to accommodate your needs. All you will need is your toiletries and food.
Our Story: We operate Bears Den Cottage ourselves. We both have a background in hospitality including working at a 4 star AAA rated bed and breakfast in Colorado. We fell in love with Bears Den the first time we saw it. We have an excellent team of care takers that make sure it is just how we would have it.
Bears Den has a magical feel to it...you can almost see the fairies dancing in the flower gardens. :) We sit on the porch for hours watching the birds, butterflies and humming birds and listening to the river below. The house is open and airy with a big picture window looking out into the forest. The cottage is decorated appropriately with bears, flowers and inspirational signs to make your trip the mountains relaxing and enjoyable. There is a good chance of seeing wild life at this property. We guarantee you will have an excellent time.

About Dana Wingate: Property Manager
I worked in a 21 room country inn/bed and breakfast in Colorado in 2000 which I really enjoyed. After moving to Asheville in 2001, I wanted to pursue owing a vacation rental and we found Bears Den in 2006. I find hospitality is my gift. We owned other cottages but are back to having just this one, it's our favorite and our 'baby' you could say. We hope to one day own a bed and breakfast. We love having this cottage and want to make you feel like you are home away from home.

Why Dana Wingate: Property Manager chose Barnardsville
I was in the mortgage business and was constantly being told about cabins and cottages from Realtors I was working with as we were looking. We knew right away Bears Den was the one. I cannot describe the magic and charm you feel. It may look rustic on the outside but it's very well kept inside and the grounds are beautiful and display everything the Western North Carolina Mountains hold.
What makes this Cabin unique
Renters love listening to the river below while on the porch with either a glass of wine or a cup of coffee. The hot tub is also a favorite because it sits up on a deck so it offers better views and is like it's own destination. Several renters have seen deer and turkeys in the yard. It's very quiet yet close to everything.

Ultimate privacy with creature comforts
This is a beautiful, well-kept cabin in an idyllic setting. Bear’s Den has everything you need for a relaxing stay, plus so many little extras like indoor and outdoor games, high speed internet, and tv with 50 channels. But who would want to watch tv when you are on 2 stunning acres of wooded property with views of the mountains, a hot tub, a fire pit, and National and State Paks to explore not too far away. We loved it here and our dogs had a blast. I felt sad when it was time to leave and hope to come back soon!
Spring Break 2018
What a great get-a way! It was everything we had hoped it would be! We had a bonfire every night, soaked in the hot tub and felt very comfortable during our entire visit. The teens enjoyed being able to hook up to the wifi. Mom and I watched the daily news and weather reports. We found the Bear Den to be a great place to stage our daily visits to all the local tourist spots. We highly recommend this place as a place to find peace of mind and get away from the hustle and bustle of the city. Asheville is a great place to visit. Loved the breweries and went to the Biltmore Mansion.
Thank you so much Linda. We've owned this house for 13 years and we have always tried our best to make it a home away from home. We greatly appreciate you taking the time to write this. Have a great summer! Ericka
Really enjoyed my time here, the sound of the creek was so relaxing. Only con was lack of the advertised gas grill, since I brought steak to grill. Otherwise, wonderful experience!
Cabin was clean and cozy.
The location was great! Cabin was clean and cozy. We enjoyed the firepit. Unfortunately we couldn’t use the hot tub because it was dirty. I was kind of annoyed that we had to wash our own sheets and towels. I absolutely hate doing laundry. I did not want to do it on my vacation but you have to in order to get your deposit back. Honestly if I had known that before booking I probably would have booked somewhere else. That’s just me. If you don’t mind the laundry bit then you should stay here.
Hello! Thank you for your review. We greatly appreciate it and only know things when we are told. I apologize you did not find the hot tub satisfactory. When we spoke, you said it was clear, there was just debris in the bottom. This is a rustic mountain cabin and part of the allure is the hot tub under the stars and trees. However, it will get dirt in there from people walking out to it and not paying attention. We did have someone come out and empty it and clean it for you. We also are thinking of raising the cleaning fee in order for laundry to not have to be done. We just ask you wash the sheets and leave them in the dryer but maybe a bigger cleaning fee and eliminating that duty will help. Thanks again!
Beautiful mountain getaway
Bears Den is located on a beautiful mountainside. The house is comfortable and neat, and it wasn't located too far from destinations in Asheville (about 30 minutes). We loved the hot tub, and the beds were comfortable. We would definitely consider coming back to Bears Den. FYI, there is work to do on the day of departure: mainly it's laundering the linens, which wouldn't be too hard except the dryer doesn't work well. Also, although we had been looking forward to using the grill, it wasn't there. In spite of these minor things, we had a wonderful stay.
We loved Bears Den! Two couples enjoying some relaxation for a long weekend. Convenient to Asheville for some dining/exploring, and really enjoyed the hot tub after hiking. The home is clean, updated, beds are comfortable, plenty of towels, BEAUTIFUL property, and the kitchen had all we needed for the weekend. We would love to come back in the future!
The cottage is located NORTH of Asheville, home of the Biltmore Estate, fine dining, antiquing, shopping and live music. It is also convenient to Wolf Laurel Skiing, Hot Springs Spa, and the Blue Ridge Parkway. There are many outdoor and indoor activities nearby including biking, white water rafting, fishing, hiking, kayaking, a nature center, museums and children's play places. Come enjoy the large Belle Chere festival that takes place the last weekend of July with lots of crafts & arts & live music. Asheville now hosts the MoogFest over Halloween weekend with tons and tons of music!!
Other Activities: Just min to Reems Creek Golf Course, Blue Ridge Parkway, white water rafting, hiking, Navitat zip line, antiquing, river boarding, kayaking, and much, much more!
Golf: Reems Creek Golf Club was labeled our nicest public course by Golf Digest. It is conveniently located 15 min South of Bears Den.
Ski: Wolf Laurel Ski Resort is about 35 min North of the cottage.
