Owner-direct luxury one bedroom beachfront vacation rental condo at South Seas Island Resort on Captiva Island, Florida. Enjoy instant and direct access to one of the finest beaches on the Gulf Coast of Florida.

Captiva is a tropical barrier island located off the Gulf Coast near Fort Myers, Florida that is connected to the western tip of its larger neighbor, Sanibel Island. Getting to Sanibel and Captiva Islands is easy. Our Captiva beachfront vacation condo is a pleasant 55 minute drive from Southwest Florida International Airport (airport code RSW). From the airport take Daniels Parkway. If traveling by car on Interstate 75, take exit 131 to the right, which is Daniels Parkway. Follow the Sanibel and Captiva beach signs to Summerlin Road. Turn left onto Summerlin. Follow Summerlin to the Causeway, then on to Sanibel and Captiva Island.

Enjoy the scenic ride along Captiva Drive from the beach at Blind Pass, past private beachfront estate homes, and past the 4-way stop in Captiva Village, until you reach the gated entrance of South Seas Island Resort, formerly known as South Seas Plantation. Unlike Naples, Marco Island, Siesta Key, or most of the Barrier Islands on the Florida Gulf Coast, you won't find any high rises here. The Resort is a 330 acre beach lover's paradise that occupies the northern third of Captiva Island. Here you'll find 2.5 miles of unspoiled beach and spectacular day-ending sunsets right outside your condo door. While the beach on Captiva is open to the public, public beach access and parking is limited to Turner Beach at the South end of Captiva Island, near Sanibel, and the beach at the end of Captiva Drive. Therefore, the beach within South Seas Island Resort is not crowded.

Our condo is more than just a vacation rental. It is our personal beachfront vacation home that has been completely redecorated and refurnished. You'll find most of the accommodations of home, including a new, fully appointed and equipped kitchen for guests who wish to dine in, or who just want to enjoy the panoramic views of the Gulf of Mexico from the dining area, living room, or screened lanai, while sipping their favorite beverage.

Captiva Island is a special vacation and holiday destination for discerning guests who value the Island's low-density, natural beauty, casual lifestyle, and quiet anonymity.

Many of the Island's best restaurants and quaint shops, are located in the 'Village', a picturesque 3-block segment of Andy Rosse Lane, which is a short, romantic walk along the beach or a few blocks by road from South Seas' gated entrance. Unless you make the 15 minute drive to Sanibel or decide to take a day trip off Island, you may not get back in the car until departure. Just remember where you put the keys!

Notice To Guests About the Resort: There are 2 ways to rent accommodations at South Seas Island Resort (SSIR): either from the Resort or from a private owner like us.

Renting directly from an owner does not include access to Resort amenities, which are primarily the new pool complex (at the far North end of the Resort 1.5 miles away from our condo), several Resort-owned restaurants (most of which are down by the new pool), and the tram, which is used primarily to shuttle guests from the Beach Villas on the South end of the Resort, to the North end of SSIR. Our condo association (Gulf Beach Villas) has its own heated pools, one of which is located on the Gulf-side on the way to the beach.

Most of the accommodations, including all of the beachfront condos known as the Beach Villas – where we are - are privately owned and decorated. The Resort does not own any of them. The “Resort’s” units are privately owned units whose owners have entered into lease agreements with the Resort. SSIR then rents these units to the vacationing public at signifiantly higher rates. If you rent through the Resort, be aware that since all units are individually decorated. your unit may differ from the photos shown on the Resort’s website. Ask to see photos of the specific unit you are renting.

We attract guests who are looking for a direct beachfront location, with close (easy walking) proximity to the shops and restaurants in the area known as “Captiva Village” located just outside the Resort.

If access to the North end pool, an ability to eat at the Resort’s restaurants, and daily maid service are important to you, you’ll need to rent from the Resort. If you’re more interested in enjoying the beach and the charm of Captiva Village, we’d love to have you as guests. If I can answer any other questions, please let me know.

* 20% of rental amount is due at time of reservation. The remaining balance is due at least 45 calendar days prior to scheduled arrival and may be made by personal check, or money order.

* Cancellations are allowed up to 45 calendar days prior to scheduled arrival with full advance payment refund.

*No refunds are given for cancellation within 45 calendar days of scheduled arrival unless condo is re-booked for that period. Ask us about available travel insurance to cover cancellations due to health or weather relates issues.

Re:Furniture worn and stained; condo needing to be painted: We were at the condo the first 2 weeks of Jan, 2016. Whenever there, we paint, as needed. I painted the entry hall & kitchen. When I spoke with RS’s manager, today, I asked her if we have any paint or furniture issues. She said everything looked fine. I’m not sure what to tell you about a dead cockroach on the bathroom floor the morning that you departed, other than we once had a report of a palmetto bug in the condo. Our condo association does pest control on a regular basis, but it’s always possible for something to sneak in when the door is open.

The small water heater is tucked under a shelf out of view in the closet. There is nowhere else to put it.

The beach chairs belong in a hall closet under the furnace access closet & the broom will be moved to the lanai. I’ll have Royal Shell do that.

Very Disappointing.

Roger, why did it take you two days to return our phone call when we told you your villa smelled like a dead animal? What Roger doesn't tell you on VRBO is that everything goes thru a local realty company. Once he verbally accepts your request everything goes thru them, including the payments. To get the key to the villa you must drive to this realty office in Sanibel and depending upon your timing wait until they dole out the keys to everyone that is checking in on that day. The day we waited for our key, there were policemen directing traffic in and out of the realty parking lot. It is nothing less than controlled chaos and a huge time sucker. When we finally arrived to the villa and opened the door, we were greeted with an overwhelming repugnant odor. We called the realty company and Roger to tell them about the smell. We left a detailed message for Roger. The realty company sent a plumber, who agreed it smelled. Once he realized it was not a plumbing issue (at first it smelled like raw sewage) a maintenance person from the company came. He also agreed the smell was extreme. For the next 4 hours we all tried to determine what and where the smell was coming from, still no phone call to us from Roger. The realty company tried to blame the smell on the neighboring villa which had burned food in their microwave. The smell was not coming from the adjacent villa, the smell was clearly coming from within Roger's villa. The realty company cleaned out the vents and changed the AC filter. We opened the sliders and turned the fans on. The realty company explained to us there was nothing more they could do because all "bookings" go thru Roger, and Roger was not returning our call. In other words neither party would take responsibility for the odor, we were stuck in this villa with no recourse. The initial stink finally dissipated and we were left with a musty smell, in every drawer & every cabinet it smelled like damp mildew. The villa is worn, the master bedroom is pitch black, with one window that looks out onto the interior hallway, the blind has to stay permanently shut. The bathroom is miniature, as is the kitchen, two people cannot be in the kitchen at the same time. The only closet to hang your clothes also houses the hot water heater, beach chairs and the hairy brooms that clean the villa (yuck). The furniture is dated, beat & stained, the walls need repainting. And finally, on our last day we found a dead cockroach on the bathroom floor.

Owner's Response: Laura D:Thank you for taking time to write your thoughts in the form of a review. I’m sorry your experience was not as you had hoped. I feel a “1” is unfair. Our condo is best designed for couples. We mostly rent to couples. I can understand your comments about the bathroom and kitchen sizes. They are small. When you first inquired about renting our condo, I raised the concern whether a 1 bedroom was going to be large enough to accommodate your family of 4. (Prospective guests: please review our photos carefully and read the description of our property.) To help assure our condo fits guests’ needs, I personally handle all rental requests by phone.We use an on-Island property manager, Royal Shell(RS), to handle admin, check-in/out, cleaning & maintenance. Upon acceptance of a reservation, I call RS to complete the reservation process. RS sends the guest a confirming email. I discuss this in detail with each guest prior to the reservation. This process has worked flawlessly for hundreds of guests. We find RS to be very professional & instantly responsive to any guest concerns. I received a call from the manager of RS’s Captiva office (6 blocks from condo) late Sat afternoon re: your concern about a smell in the condo & was on the phone with her for about an hour trying to understand the facts. RS had already sent 2 of its maintenance staff + a licensed plumber to the condo to identify the source of the problem. They ruled out any toilet/plumbing issue, changed the furnace filter, inspected the air vents and found nothing.We had guests depart just hours before you arrived; the cleaning staff didn’t report any problem. Turned out, a Resort employee used the microwave in the adjacent condo and burned eggs in it. Once the source was identified, the front door and lanai sliders were opened and the smell dissipated rather quickly. I tried calling you several times between my conversations with RS. Each time I received a busy signal. After a couple hours, I received a call from Royal Shell’s maintenance supervisor stating the issue had been resolved and that you were fine. I tried to reach you again early the following morning and got your voice mail. I left you a message to call me. You didn’t return my call. Concerning the “musty smell in every drawer and cabinet”, We’ve had guests in the condo each week since you left. Neither RS nor I received any comments about a smell. THIS RESPONSE CONTINUED ON 4/18 GUEST COMMENT

Thanks Roger and Barb for renting to us again this year. Your Captiva condo is perfect for a January vacation away from a Midwest winter. We are repeat clients since 2012 and once again reserved a week for next year. Your condo is warm and comfortable and just steps away from the beach and swiming pool. As first-time visitors to Captiva, our experience was incredible much due to Roger's fabulous condo! We felt at home immediately upon walking through the door. It's comfy, warm, and clean with a fantastic view and steps away from the beach -- all important features to us! The kitchen is nicely equipped which is vital for us as I love to cook and grills by the pools are really nice. We practically had one of the pools all to ourselves! Of course, the rest of the "Captiva experience" was a great time, too! We're planning on returning soon to enjoy Roger's condo and the best of island vacationing!

Wonderful vacation

Roger, Charlie & I would like to thank you for our wonderful vacation at your condo on Captiva. We found a lovely place to make our time off one of the most relaxing vacations we have had. The condo was in excellent condition and the access to the beach and pool were a real plus. The sunsets were beautiful.

I would also like to thank you for the recommendations of restaurants and things to do while at the beach.

We look forward to returning soon.

Thanks for renting your beach villa to us for the week of January 7 to 14. What a nice place to stay and enjoy the easy access beach and Captiva Village. Your condo was exceptionally clean with comfortable furnishings and modern appliances and kitchen. In fact, when we returned the keys on departure, we made a reservation for your place for the same week next year.

A Great Anniversary Vacation!!

We were married on Captiva at sunset 2 years ago and stayed at Roger's place. Loved it so much we decided to come back and celebrate our 2nd anniversary. The only downfall is that you have to leave. The villa is very comfortable, appliances and kitchen is updated and very nice. Very clean. It is so quiet and peaceful. PARADISE! We will definitley be back!
