4 Bedrms, 2 Bathrms, (Sleeps 8) Charleston 20 min; Rooftop Deck; Pet friendly
Our traditional home and, folks tell us, very charming and warm old island home - with recent historic designation - is located a few yards from the beautiful 100-yard path to the beach and is just 20 minutes from Charleston.
Sullivan's Island is across the Inland Waterway with semi-tropical terrain, wide, sandy beaches, historic Fort Moultrie, a lively and varied restaurant area, public tennis courts and an old-time playground with grandstand gazebo.
Most pets warmly welcomed!
Go crabbing, fishing, kayaking, canoeing, windsurfing, and sailing in the ocean or in the inlets and creeks leading to the inland waterway. Sullivan's Island is the site of novels of many well-known authors: Edgar Allen Poe (The Gold Bug), DuBose Heyward (Porgy and Bess), and Pat Conroy (The Prince of Tides).
Just 15 yards away from the footpath to the beautiful beach on the Atlantic Ocean, the duplex's upper level has private entrances, four bedrooms (one King, two with double beds, one with twin beds), two indoor bathrooms, one outdoor shower, and comfortably accommodates eight people. Living room, dining room; Ceiling fans in each room. Central Air Conditioning/Heat. Large screened front porch; Rooftop Deck with 360 degree views of the ocean, the harbor and the island.
The large, screened, front porch with plush furniture serves as a second living area. A winding staircase at the end of the porch leads to a rooftop deck with comfortable lounge furniture and gorgeous 360-degree views of the island - and of the ocean, if the Palmetto Trees and don't need trimming!!!

Old Charm in Wonderful Setting
If you like rustic and comfortable, then this lovely old home is perfect for you. It sits caddy corner to the public entranceway that leads to a quiet section of beach on Sullivan's Island. You get to enjoy sitting on a screened in porch on the second level of the house (the lower level is occupied) or go to the upper deck, which is accessed by a wooden spiral staircase. I love charm and while this home may not be for those who like freshly painted interiors and exteriors, this gem is a Sullivan's Island original. I think anyone can appreciate that. Oh, and by the way, you don't need to bring sheets or towels ... A huge plus for vacationers. Another bonus? You can bring your dog along! The price was a little more than I typically like to spend but once in a while, you've got to do it.
Fantastic Island Home!
We loved everything about this amazing home. It's got character, intimacy and is a wonderful place to relax. There are so many sweet areas to sit, take in the view and have a nice chat...
I lived on Sullivan's Island both before, during and after Hurricane Hugo. This home gave me the comfort and feel of the charming pre hurricane days. For me, it doesn't get any better than that.
Rachel, the owner, could not be more accommodating and lovely to communicate with. She responds in timely fashion and is so warm and personable. I can't say enough to express how much we enjoyed every bit of our experience!
Oh, wow, Cindi! How lovely of you. It was a treat to have you all at the house and to meet you —even if not in person YET! Thank you so much for your stay and your wonderful words. Rachel (and our daughter Maggie and all of us)
Fabulous old school beach house - as it should be, very short walk to the beach and close to everything in Sullivan's and Mt. Pleasant. I cannot recommend this house and the owner enough: excellent communication and extremely solicitous, we were treated like very old friends from the beginning and we will be back!
Wonderful vacation home!
We stayed at this house early March 2015 and had a wonderful time. It's spacious, warm and cozy. Very close to the beach, and the view from the rooftop porch is gorgeous, especially at sunrise. It was built in the 1930’s, and reflects the old time beach ambiance of Sullivan's Island. The owner is super nice, and adds to the pleasant experience. I highly recommend it.
My family stayed at this house for the weekend of my wedding. It was the perfect home base for all of the activities of the weekend. The house itself is wonderful with a lot of character and charm and the location was wonderful! Rachel was extremely accommodating and helpful. The whole family is already talking about the next trip we can plan to rent this wonderful house again!
We had the pleasure of staying on Sullivan's Island at Rachels' beautiful home the last week of May 2014. Beginning with our initial inquiry through VRBO until we checked out Rachel, and her hospitable neighbor Mr Kurtz, provided us with first class treatment. The home is charming and literally minutes from the beach and most other amenities including the beautiful city of Charleston. From our daily bike rides to evenings on the rooftop deck we could not have had a more relaxing week.
Thank You Rachel!
Our charming, old island house is about 130 yards from the very wide and beautiful Sullivan's Island beach and about 20 minutes from historic Charleston SC . Lots of history on the island from Fort Moultrie, the site of the first shot of the Civil War, Revolutionary War sites, to sites of Edgar Allen Poe's many stories for which the island was his inspiration.
