About Stephen Alicandro
My father purchased the property in 1977 for an amazing $20,000. The lot was part of a larger parcel owned by the Butterworth family (they live in the house directly next door). The lot was divided up into three, one-acre parcels. I had just graduated from architectural school and was working in Washington DC when my father told me the exciting news. His first question was, 'When can we have the floor plans ready?” With the excitement of my first full house commission, I immediately started on the design. The building form was inspired by the passing ships on Vineyard Sound and if you look at the front façade, you can see that the lines of the roofs mimic a two mast sailboat. In fact, after the house was completed, local boaters have told me that they use the house as a landmark to navigate. My father and I were the general contractors. For three years, I commuted from Washington, DC almost every weekend to work on the house. We sub-contracted out the exterior shell, framing and finishes. For the interiors, we employed a retired carpenter who did a great job translating my sketches into reality. My father was an expert stone-mason (like most Italians). He learned the trade when he helped his father build a house back in the 1930s. You can see the results of his labor throughout the house. There was a great sigh of relief upon completing the construction three years later. The design purposely provides waterviews from every room. The house is particularly interesting during the night when the weather is clear and the moon is full.

Outstanding rental experience
Beautiful rental home - excellent condition - across street from beach. Well maintained. Decks all around home. Peaceful. Close to Falmouth town center and restaurants. Close to the Vineyard ferry. Terrific experience. A wonderful Cape Cod vacation memory.
We had a great time in the Cape Cod area. The fall foliage along with the water made it perfect.
We truly enjoyed our stay at the architectural house. It has everything you can imagine to make your stay easy. All the natural sunlight in the morning and throughout the day was perfect. You can truly sit back and enjoy the time away. Definitely would recommend this rental. If I had one thing that I would change and it’s not that big of a deal but it has to do with the plants/shrubs around the driveway entrance. Leaving sometimes was challenging in respect to seeing cars coming. It tends to obstruct your view and a car is right on you before you know it. Just alittle pruning.
Open and Airy Scenic Special Family Celebration
Spectacular! Exactly as described only better. It was open and airy yet had cozy nooks for private reading or resting. The windows and angles are set so that every view is a picture, no paintings necessary. The lighting fixtures in the house also allowed for great mood setting. The kitchen was wonderful for entertaining. We celebrated a special family birthday and the house location was great for multi generations - walk across the street to the beach, go to town for restaurants, nice yard for kids' play. The fireplace is stunning. Be sure to ask ahead if use of the fireplace is included in your visit. Many places have fire safety or other restrictions.
We had one request on check out and the property manager got back to me in just 20 minutes! It was off season with no one scheduled immediately after, and yes they said, "Please do leisurely enjoy your last morning in the house." Ahhhh one last cup of coffee on the upper deck, feel the sun, smell the sea. Thank you Mr. Alecandro!
Beautiful & Well stocked property. Defintely would stay again.
Porperty was beautful & meet our expecations. I have never stayed in a property that was as well stocked as this one was. Can't think of anything that we needed that it didn't have. We stayed during Hurricane Jose. There were even ample flashlights thru out the house in case we lost power. The owner went out her way to make sure we were comfortable & helped us to stay longer to make up for time we loss because of the storm. I would highly recommend staying here & certainly would if I even return to that area.
Wonderful home away from home
