HULA COVE is an air conditioned studio cottage located on a semi private cove at the very end of the famous Kapoho tide pools. The cottage was built in the 1970s so close to the water that no changes can be made to the house's foot print without moving the house back 20 feet from the water's edge. This is as close as one can get to the water's edge without being on a boat!
HULA COVE has since been updated with satellite TV, king sized bed, two folding mattress for children, fresh linens, a full kitchen and Wi-Fi for lap tops. The house is Hawaiiana in feel with a surfboard hanging on the front of the house and Hula girl pictures and objects d'art around the house.
At night under the swish of the ceiling fans you can literally hear the fish jumping outside your sliding glass doors. So if you want to experience the Hawaii you thought disappeared under the Kona or Maui concrete jungle this could be your Hawaiian fantasy. Weekends at the Tidepools can be quite busy in the summer months and holidays , but you will have a chance to meet the locals visiting from other parts of the Island. Weekdays and off season are much quieter and often you'll have the ponds to yourself during the morning and early evening hours.

' Even though we are on vacation and retired I need to conduct business and communicate with the grand kids. Hula Cove was the best place we stayed on our trip. It was well equiped and the access to the tidepools was fantastic! ' James C.
'It isn't the Four Seasons thankfully! Charming Hawaiian bungalow with all that I needed. I loved the peace and quiet. Lots of palm trees clear blue water and tropical fish. When I closed the bamboo gates to the yard the world disappeared and I enjoyed the Hawaii I always dreamed of. ' Dennis M.

We'll be back!
Not sure what to say about Hula Cove. If we say its the best place ever than it might become too popular (but it was the best place ever). This is the second time we've stayed at Hula Cove and everything was as it was the last time. Great accommodations and a great location. The snorkeling is superb. We'll be back!
Mahalo Larry. Always a pleasure having you as our guest at Hula Cove. Keep us in mind when it’s 0 in Minneapolis we are 80 in Hawaii and you are always welcome in our hale.
Beautiful studio directly on Kapoho Tidepools
We stayed in the cottage 3 nights in February. Although there was quite a bit of rain, we enjoyed snorkeling directly from the Lanai in the warm tide pools. The only downside of the place is probably the public access next to the cottage which brings crowds of people to the area, especially on weekends.
Aloha and thank you for your review. The last week has been particularly rainy as February normally ranks as our rainiest month of the year. Yes we are right on the water near one of the paths which leads into the tide pools. I suggest that guests enjoy the pools in the mornings and late afternoons when the pools are the least crowded. If guests prefer more privacy there are sun screens to turn down on the porch which block out the pools. Afternoons are also a good time to sight see parts of the Puna area or a good siesta.
Cozy cottage on the water Feb 6-13, 2018
We loved staying at your place! Well furnished, complete kitchen, everything we needed. It was great being able to go snorkeling just off the back steps. Thanks for the big selection of snorkel gear. We arrived after dark but your directions lead us right there. Morning coffee on the lanai listening to the birds and the fish jump, watching the geckos, wonderful. The star gazing was good too. Haven't seen the Southern Cross in quite awhile. Even saw a spectacular fireball descending the second night. People watching was good too.
The Pahoa Farmers Market on Sunday is a must do, but don't eat before going, there are plenty of things to try there. Speaking of food, Kaleo's Bar & Grill and Ning's Thai Cuisine in Pahoa were both good, thanks for the recommendations. The Kilauea Volcano Park and Chain of Craters Road are worth doing. The ranger lead talk/walk in the park was informative and entertaining. The Akatsuka Orchid Gardens just outside Volcano was very interesting too. Hilo was also a fun visit, the farmers market and Two Ladies Kitchen were a hit. And of course had to try the samplings at Mehana Brewing Company. Closer to home Lava Tree State Park and the Red Road were good. Overall we thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Hula Cove. Thank you so much for sharing.
Chad & Marcie ( Lynnwood, WA)
Aloha Chad and Marcie,
We are so glad you enjoyed your time at Hula Cove and the Kapoho tidepools. Thank you for your recommendations on places to eat and visit. I'm sure this will be helpful to future guests.
I hope you both were able to return home to Washington state with a sun tan. There's nothing like a tan in the winter to make the neighbors start planning a winter vacation next year for themselves.
We loved our stay at Hula Cove! Everything we needed was readily available, the location was absolutely perfect, with snorkeling right off of the back deck.
Mahalo Lorraine for your review of Hula Cove. We are always so pleased when our guests enjoy the cottage and the Kapoho tidepools!
Hopefully we will be able to welcome you back .
A hou hui!
Cozy piece of heaven
A cozy piece of heaven with everything you need for a wonderful stay. An aquarium right outside the back door to immerse yourself in for hours. Loved it!
