HULA COVE is an air conditioned studio cottage located on a semi private cove at the very end of the famous Kapoho tide pools. The cottage was built in the 1970s so close to the water that no changes can be made to the house's foot print without moving the house back 20 feet from the water's edge. This is as close as one can get to the water's edge without being on a boat!
HULA COVE has since been updated with satellite TV, king sized bed, two folding mattress for children, fresh linens, a full kitchen and Wi-Fi for lap tops. The house is Hawaiiana in feel with a surfboard hanging on the front of the house and Hula girl pictures and objects d'art around the house.
At night under the swish of the ceiling fans you can literally hear the fish jumping outside your sliding glass doors. So if you want to experience the Hawaii you thought disappeared under the Kona or Maui concrete jungle this could be your Hawaiian fantasy. Weekends at the Tidepools can be quite busy in the summer months and holidays , but you will have a chance to meet the locals visiting from other parts of the Island. Weekdays and off season are much quieter and often you'll have the ponds to yourself during the morning and early evening hours.

' Even though we are on vacation and retired I need to conduct business and communicate with the grand kids. Hula Cove was the best place we stayed on our trip. It was well equiped and the access to the tidepools was fantastic! ' James C.
'It isn't the Four Seasons thankfully! Charming Hawaiian bungalow with all that I needed. I loved the peace and quiet. Lots of palm trees clear blue water and tropical fish. When I closed the bamboo gates to the yard the world disappeared and I enjoyed the Hawaii I always dreamed of. ' Dennis M.

I had to send you an email. We love Hula Cove. It is everything we hoped for and more! What a fabulous cottage and location. We are loving every minute. Thank you for all your help and for facilitating our stay here.
I have been snorkelling so much and really it does not get any better than this! I have snorkelled in the Caribbean and it is just as beautiful here. I met a couple of local girls here yesterday just getting into the water and they took me out to the big lagoon with the white sand. It was incredible. Today I went back by myself and enjoyed it again!
Last night we slept to the sound of the frogs and rain - just heaven. I don't have to tell you all about it as you already know.
We love this place and already are talking about coming back!!
I highly recommend adding this destination to your Big Island vacation. The place was everything we expected and more. The owners suggestions of things to do in the area were also very helpful.
Everything about Hula Cove was super. Mike was a gracious, helpful host who provided every amenity and then some. The cottage itself was welcoming, airy, clean, comfortable and had everything a guest could possibly need or want. The washer and dryer were a nice bonus, as was the grill and the reef friendly sunscreen. The location is unparalleled; we literally walked out the door and into the tide pools which have amazing snorkeling. Magical setting, lovely property, great host. I only wish we'd stayed longer!
Care for a snorkel before breakfast on the lanai? This is the spot. Comfy bed, well outfitted kitchen. There were lots of geckos and a few pesky gnats & mosquitos. Bring your repellent. A Very cute place, just remember it's a tropical setting and plan for the local flora & fauna. Don't leave the doors open and you will be fine.
We hiked to the lava flow into the ocean and drove to Hawaiian botanical gardens. These are not to be missed. Have lunch or dinner at Kaleo's Bar & Grill. Order the ginger Collins. All fresh local ingredients. Delightful. Hula Cove owner Mike was a great communicator and worked with us on an early check in since there was no one staying the previous night. Thanks & Mahalo Mike!
What a lovely little vacation home! This was the perfect place for my husband and I to stay while we enjoyed the Big Island. The house is private and secluded but also makes a great home-base for excursions to Volcanos National Park, South Point, Waikoloa, and more. I was so impressed with the amenities at this cute little house- sunscreen, snorkels, reef shoes, shampoo, picnic supplies -everything was there for us. The cove is beautiful and includes STUNNING snorkeling. At high tide in particular it is some of the clearest water I've ever snorkeled. Thank you for a wonderful trip- we'd love to come back here again!
This cottage could not have been better. We had many plans for our stay on the Hilo side, but once we arrived at Hula Cove, we decided to just stay put and enjoy the fantastic snorkeling right outside our door. The place was clean, well laid out, and simply beautiful. I wish we had been able to stay longer!
It's what I look foward to every year. Hula cove is the most relaxing place to get away. The house is perfect.
