Guestbook comments from the owner

We hope winter is a good time for you. It is beautiful in spite of the adjustments it requires. We stayed in the Savannah House in late July last summer. We walked the Watkin's Glen trail (twice) and Taugannock Falls State park in Ithaca (seven dollars a day to visit all the State Parks you can get to!) and on the rainy day we went to the Museum of the Earth just North of Ithaca. In addition, Watkin's Glen and the Amish Farm just North of you were wonderful places to visit. It was a pleasure to relax mornings and evenings at your motel. Clean, marvelously appointed and surrounded by the beauty of one of the most wonderful areas on earth, the Finger Lakes. You promised me we would be glad we chose your motel for our four day stay and you were so right. We look forward to returning next summer for a getaway.

Rentals of bikes, canoes, kayaks, and boats available at very reasonable rates. Walking distance to Outlet hiking and biking trail between Seneca Lake and Keuka Lake - 6 miles long. Two tennis courts walking distance. On site massages available - limo service also available. Plenty of parking for boat and car trailers. We are on an acre overlooking Seneca Lake - not lake front. Great place to spend a week

  • 4 of 5

Just spent a terrific week here with my family. A great place if you have a small child, within walking distance of a playground (and ice cream), and a short drive from a number of attractions in the finger lakes. My only complaint would be I wish the owners had provided a little more instruction about the place (maybe a binder in the property) but it was a very small worry. A great way to spend a vacation!

Finger Lakes Vacation

  • 5 of 5

The cottage was perfect for our stay in the finger lakes! We were traveling with a toddler and a dog and they both had plenty of room inside and out. The lake is a great view but not close enough for the dog or kid to jump in. Wish we could have enjoyed the hot tub more but it was too cold and windy. The cottage is a perfect location. It was in the middle of everything and we were only 5 minutes from Penn Yan and wineries and breweries were even closer.

Perfect distance from the water- tons of wineries in the area, working hot tub and fire pit. Perfect peaceful weekend getaway for a reasonable price.

Overall Not A Bad Little Place

  • 4 of 5

We stayed for 2 nights, overall not bad. Very clean. Make sure you bring toilet paper as one of the other reviews said there were only half of an roll left for them, as there was for us. We stayed in November as for this time the leaves were mostly down around the jacuzzi. They could have rake the leaves around it so when you are getting in you wouldn't have leaves on your feet. For the most part we were very pleased !

Overall decent but not worth the money in my opinion, see description below.

  • 3 of 5

The cottage is a trailer that is behind a very old abandoned home, we knew it was a trailer from the pictures so that is no problem. It was very clean inside and staged very nicely. You can see the lake from the outside of the cottage and partially from the kitchen. The hot tub worked and was a nice addition.

Onto why this is a 3 star review. The outdoor area on the other hand has not been kept up, the furniture was cushioned outdoor furniture that was all left bent over with dirt and grime all over it. Normally this would be whatever but for over 300$ a night we should not be cleaning there furniture. The threshold to the door and staircase up are falling apart. The bed in the master was fine but in the spare room the bed had about 8" of clearance around it so no walking space or anywhere to put anything and the bed was an old mattress that would fold in on itself kind of like an old pull out couch. The cottage came with 1 half used roll of toilet paper and non else to be found in the place, luckily I have a roll in my car. Finally there were 5 lights out! The outdoor light, the 2 lights in the porch area and 2 lights in the kitchen.

Overall this was not worth the money and I would not recommend this to anyone, you could negate some of the negatives if the place was not so pricey but for the money we spent we think it should have been kept better. Originally I was going to make this a 2 star review however, the problems may not be on the owner and rather the property manager, if they are not changing the lights or toilet paper or letting the owner know the problems than maybe it could be fixed making it a nice stay for another family however we were not pleased.

Owner's Response: Sam - we appreciate your thorough assessment of our cottage, and we agree many of your items need to be addressed, if they are as you describe. Normally there are concerns that guests may have and that is usually how we learn about them and are able to address them. Our guests, when they have a concern, normally contact us while they are at the cottage and we come right over to help them. In that there are things that were a concern to you, we are wondering why you didn't contact us so we could help you. Light bulbs are easy and quick. we have addressed the bed issue with a better support - but the mattress is only 2 years old. This cottage shares a one acre yard with a 200 year old historic mansion we are working on. There is great interest in it around the country and we receive many requests for tours. Passers by are often seen taking photos, and when we're there, we're happy to provide some of the history. As you know, there are a lot of large beautiful trees on this property and our guests often locate the outdoor furniture under those trees, which then provide a continuing supply of tree debris, which always lands on the seat cushions. We do clean the cushions when we service the hot tub, but depending on how many days between rentals, that debris can build up. Also - our cottage has a max rental of $250/night during peak season, and as low as $150 in slower times. Not sure where the $300 came from. Again - we appreciate your stay and thank you for commenting.

Perfect for our weekend away!

  • 5 of 5

The cottage was perfect for our girls weekend away. We really enjoyed the hot tub, the fire pit, and both the outdoor and indoor space. Cottage was really close to the wine trail. Pat was really helpful with some recommendations and wine trail cards. We would definitely stay here again. Thanks!
