About this property
Log Lodge, Breathtaking Views, Hot Tub, Fire Pit, Wifi
Log Lodge, Breathtaking Views, Hot Tub, Fire Pit, Wifi, Hiking, Nature, Wildlife, Mountain Gem awaits!
Welcome to your private mountain sanctuary — a stunning log cabin perched at 3,600 ft on nearly 7 acres in the Great Smoky Mountains of Waynesville, NC. With 4 bedrooms, 5 private bathrooms, and space for up to 12 guests, this is the ultimate retreat for families and groups looking to unplug, breathe mountain air, and make memories that last.
The Views & Outdoor Space
Step outside and you'll immediately understand why guests keep coming back. Two stories of wrap-around decks frame sweeping mountain views that never get old — morning coffee up here is something else entirely. When the sun goes down, gather around the fire pit for s'mores and stargazing, or sink into the 7-person Master Spa hot tub with LED lights and let the mountains do the rest. Fire up the Big Green Egg or the commercial-grade Blaze gas grill for a proper cookout, then pull up a seat at the outdoor dining area and eat with a view. And don't be surprised if you spot George and Paco — our beloved community donkeys — wandering the neighborhood. They are guest favorites.
The Entertainment
Rainy day? No problem. The lower level of the cabin is a full entertainment hub: regulation-size pool table, an arcade loaded with 17,000+ games, and a cozy seating area perfect for hanging out. When you want something slower-paced, we've got board games, card games, puzzles, and yes — adult Jenga. The main living room features a large flat-screen TV, plush seating, and a stone fireplace that makes every evening feel like exactly what a mountain vacation should be.
The Kitchen
This kitchen is built for groups. You'll find a full induction stove and oven, microwave, dishwasher, and everything you need in terms of cookware, utensils, and prep space — including granite countertops with plenty of room to spread out. For your morning routine, we've set up a proper coffee station with a drip coffee maker, Keurig, and a French press with a burr grinder. Whether you're making coffee for two or twelve, you're covered.
The Bedrooms
Sleep well in one of four bedrooms — two king suites on the main floor and two queen rooms upstairs (each with two queen beds), giving you flexible arrangements for couples, families, and mixed groups. Every bedroom has its own private en-suite bathroom, so there's never a wait. With 5 bathrooms for 12 guests, mornings are easy.

Good to Know Before You Book
The cabin is about 2 miles up a well-maintained private gravel road in a gated community — suitable for 2WD in dry conditions, but AWD or 4WD is strongly recommended for winter visits. At 3,600 ft, snow is real and it's beautiful. Cell service can be spotty at elevation, but our Starlink keeps you connected. Trash drop-off is 4 miles away (we'll provide the details) — standard for mountain communities in Haywood County due to local wildlife.

1. Not all cellular service works or works consistently.
2. We have Starlink WIFI that can beimpacted by foul weather.
3. Trash service is not available in the community nor most mountain homes in Haywood county due to wildlife. We kindly ask that guests take trash to the conveniently located 4 miles away.
4. It snows! When booking a winter stay you should consider an all wheel drive (AWD) or four-wheel drive (4x4) vehicle. The slope leading to our home isn't very steep, but anytime you have snow and ice on any surface, you can run into issues.

Beautiful house and a great location. Everything was exactly as described. The house and neighborhood are very relaxing and a great place to get away to.
It's a beautiful cozy house with beautiful views. Kitchen fully stocked with everything you would need, very clean with big rooms and can't wait to go back.
Spacious and very well stocked for a short interim stop on our extended family vacation. The gorgeous views, fireplace, hot tub, and game room were enjoyed by all.
Property was clean, lots of room, decks. Owners were terrific to deal with, checkin checkout was easy. Great area, close to so many activities. Highly recommend this property!
The house was clean and spacious. Beds were comfortable. Loved sitting on the deck in the mornings and evenings. Full size washer and dryer off the kitchen. The kitchen had some upscale appliances that we didn’t use like an instant pot and stand mixer. Lower floor had nice seating for TV watching, a pool table and the arcade was fun. The top floor took some time to cool down. Overall it was great. Owners were always easy to communicate with.
The property and the owners are amazing! Everything is better than described. We lost electricity for a few hours after a night of thunderstorms and the owners were communicating with us immediately! Book this property - you won't be disappointed! Five stars!
Stayed at this beautiful cabin with 7 friends in early November. It was clean, very spacious, and had a really nice kitchen! We cooked a lot during our week long stay, and had every kind of dish, utensil, and appliance we could possibly need. The beds were comfy, the outdoor spaces were inviting, and the hot tub was a relaxing way to end our days.
Our host, Anthony, was always very responsive and helpful when we reached out to him.
I would highly recommend this cabin to anyone looking for a peaceful getaway!
Lots of options to have privacy if wanted, and a great basement entertainment area for all ages.
We played jumbo jenga with 8 people for 90 minutes! It was intense, competitive and a memory and great family story to be remembered for a lifetime!
We were rained in with ice the first half of our trip but the property is so great, we enjoyed just staying around the house. For a large family well traveled, mountain gem is truely its name sake. 20 out of 10!
This cabin is everything we hoped for and more! The online description was 100% accurate. It sleeps 12 guests, which we originally had. A last minute issue and only 10 we’re able to go. The cabin is so spacious that not once did we feel like we were bumping into each other.
PROS: Beautiful! All rooms are spacious with comfortable beds. The mountain view is gorgeous and can be seen from inside the cabin or on the deck. There is plenty seating on the deck and inside. The kitchen is large with lots of counter space. It is also well stocked with pots, pans, and utensils. The owner was easily accessible. Thankfully, we only needed him once, but he answered on my first call and quickly resolved an issue that turned out to not even be his issue to handle. Maps took us on an incorrect route up to the cabin and we ran into a down tree that blocked the road. We later found out that was not the correct route and we were on private property. Even though that was the case, he had it taken care of.
CONS: I rated it a 4/5 on cleanliness because there were cobwebs on light fixtures, dusty shelves, and the towels smelled very musty. We had to wash all of them before using. The one and only frustrating thing about this cabin is the water pressure, or lack there of. The water pressure is TERRIBLE! You cannot have water running in more than one location in the home. Even something as simple as washing your hands in the sink would dramatically affect water pressure in the shower. But even if the water was only running in one location, it was barely strong enough to rinse shampoo out with of my hair.
These few cons would not keep me from staying there again. Everyone in the group loved it and would highly recommend it!!

Thank you for your feedback Allison! I'm sorry about the water pressure issue, we hope we have that corrected now (seems to be good now). Apparently it was not a well issue, but a new home water filter system was installed backwards a few months ago, once it was flipped it to the correct flow, we are back to normal again. We are glad you enjoyed your stay and hope you consider us again in the future.
The cabin was well equipped and there was plenty of space to meet all of our needs. The views are breath taking and the quietness of the location was much appreciated. Expect a 45 min to 1 hr drive to most major attractions in the area, but the drive time offered the rest we needed between excursions. Would recommend.
We had a wonderful vacation at Mountain Gem with its beautiful furnishings inside and out. The home was spotless with everything we needed to have a great vacation including games, firewood, fuel for the grill, swings and rocking chairs etc. All we had to do was show up and enjoy! We couldn’t get enough of that awesome view from that big back deck. Thank you for sharing your lovely home!
We absolutely loved our stay in this beautiful cabin. Despite some of the bad reviews our only complaint, if you will call it a complaint; is the water pressure in the showers. The cabin is absolutely beautiful and plenty of room for large groups of all ages! We will definitely be visiting this cabin, again! We have zero complyabojt the cabin!

Thank you so much for choosing us, and for the honest feedback. I think we’ve found the water pressure issue and should have resolved this week. Seems there is a pressure tank issue with our shared well. We hope you choose us at Southern Gem properties in the future!
With some maintenance and updates the home could be great, various components of home need repair and some updating. Various issues observed from plumbing leaks, roof leaks, visible mold like substance on ceiling in upstairs bedrooms, loose lighting on outside of home, spa missing components, jets and hardware loose and sitting in bottom of spa, no working vacuum, TV's missing remotes, VERY poor water pressure, LOTS of lady bugs in upstairs, Loose bedroom doorknobs, master bathroom strike plate does not latch, etc. etc. Carpet installed in 1st floor of home with no a/c unit, very musty. Suspect may be warm in summertime as well. Plastic insert showers and tubs, master shower SMALL. Plastic devices installed around home on exterior and are very noisy when windy. Not peaceful at night due to noise they make.

Just so guests are aware, this guest wanted to hold me hostage for a review demanding a discount refund for his stay. I offered to refund him if he left the property. He showed up several hours early while our cleaner was still preparing the property. He then followed her and her team around the home playing 50 questions while they attempted to finish. We didn't authorize early arrival, and unfortunately, the departing guests didn't leave the home in the best shape and the cleaners did need time to prepare the home. We take very good care of our home, as witnessed by the many other reviews. It is just this way with some guests. We also personally stay in our homes frequently as Southern Gem Properties is owned and managed by my wife and I.
I hope he finds a place to stay in the future, but he will not be allowed to stay in any of our properties.
The property was in reasonably close proximity to the greater Asheville area so we were able to easily commute to the activities we wanted to experience. The house itself was roomy and comfortable for the eight guests in our party; each bedroom had an adjoining full bath which was really nice! The size and number of beds in the 4 bedrooms could comfortably accommodate a group of 12. The kitchen was well-equipped for those who prefer to eat their meals on property. Highly Recommend!
Amazing place and an amazing stay next time well book a whole week!! Everything was a 5 star rating except everybody in our group felt like an earlier check in time like maybe 3 PM instead of 5 PM because there was not much day light getting unpacked and set up. Only complaint (or suggestion)would be better water pressure. Thanks for a wonderful vacation experience!
We were so pleasantly surprised with the cabin. Very clean, large and well appointed. The location is quiet and private. We will definitely be returning ion the future. Thank you for sharing this beautiful home with us.
DR
The house was absolutely gorgeous, clean, and well-stocked with all sorts of things.
