a pet friendly home near the waterfront. house was super clean. waterviews were great. nice area to walk dogs. hiking trails nearby. we had a restful time away.the best part was the hummingbirds feeding in the back garden area. very cool! thank you for a great stay!
The property and its location are fabulous. Our host Ray, was extremely helpful and went out of his way to make sure we had a great experience. He is a long time “Mainer” and a wealth of information. The location of this property is right on the water and walking distance to a terrific nature preserve. If peace and quiet, and nature are your thing, this is your place!
This cottage was absolutely perfect for our honeymoon! It was clean, well stocked, and in a fantastic location. We loved the fall foliage, the nearby trails, and the proximity to the harbor. Ray was the ideal host with recommendations of places to go and restaurants to visit. We hope to come back in the future for an anniversary trip!

We enjoyed our stay in Steuben. Ray was an excellent host and the house had everything we needed. The area is quiet and peaceful, giving us the opportunity to enjoy the sounds of the ocean and of an adjacent brook.
My family had a wonderful time in Pigeon Hill. Our hosts were amazing and the house is awesome! Highly recommend. Will definitely look to comeback next year.

The cottage was super comfortable and very nicely designed (the pictures really don't capture how great it is). Great location and super hikes close by and afar. Ray was nice and fun to talk with. We loved the fact that we could bring our dog.

It's true, pictures really cannot capture the remarkable beauty that abounds here in Downeast Maine.
Always enjoy knowing folks had a pleasant and memorable experience.
Your always welcomed along with your darlin pet.
Everything was just right. The home was comfortable and clean and in a beautiful part of Maine. We had a terrific time. The kitchen had everything we needed and we did a bunch of cooking. The porch was lovely for reading and looking out at the water. Plus, the hosts gave us all kinds of good ideas of places to see.
Amazing location! The serene beach view can be enjoyed from the dinning room or the porch, with beach access just a few steps away. The house is beautifully designed with thoughtful details throughout. The kitchen is well stocked for home-cooked meals, though we opted to dine out during our short stay. The master bedroom was cozy and comfortable, and the upstairs seating area easily converted into sleeping futons for our daughters. Plenty of pillows and blankets were provided, and the shower had strong hot water. The highlight of our stay was the host’s hospitality. Ray was communicative, gracious, and full of great recommendations that made our trip even more special—from hiking and restaurants to ice cream stops and scenic drives. We’ve visited Acadia many times, but this trip helped us discover Steuben as a true hidden gem. We’ll definitely be back!
We had a wonderful and restorative visit to Pigeon Hill in Steuben. The hosts, Ray and Jo, were gracious and had thought of everything to make the cottage they created warm and welcoming. And it's a stunningly beautiful section of the Maine coast. We very hope to return one day!

Absolutely stunning view. Hosts Jay and Jo were amazing and gave us suggestions for food and scenic adventures. Our stay was peaceful and adventurous with all the walking paths we were surrounded with. I even saw a white deer (rare find). We have stayed at many places over the years and this has been our favorite.

About the host
Hosted by Ray & Jo
Ray is a retired Director of an Adult Education program in the western mountains of Maine, an outdoor enthusiast, cyclist and gardener. Joanne is an a working Registered Nurse, stained glass artisan and animal advocate. Together we enjoy the peacefulness of our get-away cottage and the surrounding beauty of it all.
Why they chose this property
Working in the area led us to this beautiful unique quaint fishing village. The peacefulness combined with the Petit Manan National Wildlife Refuge 1/2 mile walk from our cottage with fields of song birds and blueberries for the picking located on a remote Maine peninsula left us spelled bound with the overwhelming beauty and serenity. The cobble stone private beach and magnificent views including sun and moon rises, sounds of sea birds and shore sounds lulled us to choose this enchanted remote paradise with the historical cultural elements still intact and thriving today. We are proud and pleased to share this uniquely designed cottage for its privacy and beauty. Enjoy the local cultural experience that surrounds it, and the natural beauty of this unique, untouched, natural habitat as we experienced it ourselves.
What makes this property unique
The cottage itself was thoughtfully conceived incorporating numerous Frank Lloyd Wright principles and design in organic architecture. A design that is in harmony with humanity and the surrounding environment. Collaborating with designer, builder Joe LeVigne, of "Sprezzatura," the elegant and harmonious creation of our cottage, "Downeast Retreat" was created. Through mindful design of space, local spruce and pine wood, window placement with a intentional view in every direction, the natural sound and sight of this extraordinary paradise is invited into every nook and room of our cottage. The panoramic views of the bay of Petit Manan Island light house, Bois Bubert Island or the coming & going of fishing trollers & lobster boats through the colorful bouys' in the bay, lends a magical and romantic feeling all of its own. Our piece of ocean front property directly across the street, with access to the cobble stone beach to sit and have morning coffee, or evening cocktails at sunset, makes this property that much more irresistible. The outdoor activities, hiking, biking, kayaking that are all available right outside the door of the cottage was the icing on the cake for us. Having access to fresh sea foods (caught daily from the bay), local boat and whale watching tours, fresh water lakes and beaches is too good to be true. The local farmers market in the town Milbridge, is only a 10 min. drive. The many quaint and small scenic fishing villages and abounding bold coast hikes as one sojourns Nor'east up the coast to Rogues Bluff, Quoddy Head or Campobello Island just 1 1/2 hours away make for a fun, memorable day trip. The Canadian border is only 1 and 1/2 hrs drive from the cottage.
