Overview

About the property

House, 4 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 2 Baths, (Sleeps 8)

This stunning 4 Bedroom house has wonderful views from all bedrooms and living space. Completely renovated with new Maple hardwood floors, complete kitchen with granite countertops, new plaster, woodwork, windows, staircase and furniture. Two full tiled bathrooms with showers and the downstairs bath is ADA compliant. Each of the four bedrooms has a full size double bed.

Whether it is looking out the bank of windows facing the ocean or observing the Eagles that perch on a close by island, or watching your neighboring lobstermen's activities on their wharfs or on their boats; there is always something interesting to see. Located on Perio Point, you are in perfect position to stroll around the genuine and friendly village of Beals. This is an excellent place for a fall foliage, Thanksgiving, or Christmas getaway.

Purchase your ocean fresh lobsters from the fisherman who uses the wharf in your back yard, steam them with the outside lobster cooker, and savor them either on the picnic table by the water or in comfort inside. Whether it is Summer or Winter, sunny or foggy, warm (never hot) or chilly, once you cross the bridge from the mainland the rhythm of the tides (12') is hard to resist.

You will never lack for things to see and do. A short 5 minute drive takes you to the end of Beals Island to Wass Island where the Downeast Institute is located along with some of the U.S.'s best hiking, kayaking and birdwatching. Another short trip (about 5 miles) takes you to beautiful Sandy Beach, which is not only picturesque but great for sunbathing or a refreshing dip. Acadia National Park, Schoodic Point, Campobello Island, St. John N.B., Eastport, and Quoddy Head are all an easy and fun day trip.

From sardine museum to mustard factory to reversing rapids to tiny baby lobsters to giant whirlpools; you can see it all. And the world's best seafood. Lobster, Crabmeat, Scallops, Mussels, Clams, Haddock, Halibut, and Gulf of Maine Shrimp to either be prepared to your taste in the new and fully equipped kitchen or enjoyed at one of the excellent (and typically modestly priced) restaurants in the area.

For our guests who require handicap accessibility there is a 'to code' entrance ramp leading to the open downstairs living area. The downstairs tiled bath is equipped with a roll under sink, ADA toilet, an open shower with fold down ADA bench, hand control shower head, and grab bars. Downstairs sleeping accommodations are a full size American Leather sleeper sofa, purportedly the finest available.

The furniture has been selected for both attractiveness and comfort. There is WiFi, Dish Network Television, and a DVD player. And, of course, a game of Monopoly.

About Philip Frassica

We have owned the house next door for a number of years and alternate living here and in Vermont. We use both year round and when we are at either place, we don't want to leave.

Philip Frassica purchased this house in 2007

Why Philip Frassica chose Great Wass Island

The scenery is beautiful and the people are among the nicest on earth.

Just breathing that fresh salt air is both invigorating and relaxing at once.

What makes this house unique

Sitting outside by the water or looking out the many windows reveals a constantly changing view of waves, sky, tides coming or going, as well as boats and fishermen engaged in their work.

A Holiday you will never forget.

  • 5 of 5

Do you remember the wonderful smell and taste sensation of the best Peach, Steak, Glass of Wine and Chocolates you ever had ?

This is why we have taken a Holiday at this lovely Home for the past 3 years, this is our Peach in this area of Maine.

The location is perfect, the scenic Maine Lobster Community we all travel the coast of Maine to find. You will be amazed when you see the sunrises and the sunsets, they can take your breath away. Please, don't sleep in and miss this beautiful gift.

This year we were fortunate to experience the mystical fog, and its alluring velveteen beauty as it danced around the islands in the harbour. All this can be enjoyed as you gaze out the many beautiful windows. The house sits on the water, so you can also enjoy up close the dramatic tides, as well as all the boats in the harbour, as they dance with the tides.

This is where we go to rest and recharge. Explore the Bold Coast, with easy day trips from Acadia National Park to Quoddy Head Light House, and beyond. The hiking opportunities in this area is are endless, enjoy the fresh air, vistas and wonderful aromas of the coast and pines.

If you are lucky and get the opportunity to vacation here, please treat this home with the respect and care it deserves. We hope to continue to vacation here for years to come.

Just do not reserve our weeks ! ! !

Down East Maine with water views on three sides!

  • 4 of 5

The house has been recently gutted and remodeled with great open space and water views.

2 min walk to ice cream and good take out food. 1 min walk to lobsters right off the boat. Swimming is tough due to the cold water but this is a great place for a kayak ( we launched for full days of amazing kayaking right off the property) or a small boat. Tides are big, but even at low tide, the water is easily accessible about 100 yards from the house. At high tide, the water is at your door step. Bedrooms are small but functional. Phil was very accommodating. This is not a tourist area, so do not expect night life or fancy restaurants. If you are looking to experience the peace and beauty of down east coastal Maine, this is a great choice.

Family gathering!

  • 5 of 5

Had a wonderful time and was able to receive many family members through out the week. Everyone loved the house and it's setting. Great people. Could have had lobster every night off the pier. Wonderful views from every room. Many great places to visit. Can't wait to go back.

A fantastic spot for a family get-together.

  • 5 of 5

We wondered whether to rent a remote spot on the ocean or right on the bay in Jonesport. We are really glad that we rented this great house for our family get-together in July. Many in my family had never been to downeast Maine, and this is the perfect spot - the house is literally surrounded by ocean and the business of lobstering. And even though the days start very, very early in downeast Maine, this was not a noisy location. We loved the views from every window. The house has been remodeled very tastefully and solidly. The downstairs main room is bright and open with views all around. The kitchen is good, and there are adequate pots, pans, baking pans, eating utensils, etc., including the mandatory lobster-cooking and lobster-eating equipment. There is a fire pit outside and tables and chairs enough to entertain - and sitting by the fire making smores and watching the tide change, the coming darkness and moonrise over the bay was very entertaining! Jonesport, for those unfamiliar with downeast Maine, is not a big city. There are a few small stores and a few restaurants - the Bayview Diner being well known for its lobster roll and fried haddock sandwich (a monstrous delight). It is a 1-block walk from this house.

Being very rural, be aware that AT&T cell service is not available. US Cellular seems to work, and if cell access is important and you do not have US Cellular, you might pick up a Trac-Fone, which I think works here. Phil seems very helpful for his guests, and he can advise activities, but typically day trips to Acadia, to Campobello Island (Canada - passport needed), to the West Quoddy Head State Park and lighthouse in Lubec, and other similar activities are ideal. There is a great 3-4 hour hike on neighboring Great Wass Island, and there is the Bold Coast Trail in Cutler which ends up along some stunning cliffs overlooking the ocean. These trails have quite a lot of roots and rocks and might not be best for young children or old knees. Acadia has a lot of trails that are easier but also with spectacular views. Trips can be planned out of Cutler to observe a nesting puffin colony on Machias Seal Island (request nice weather, as the island is 10 miles offshore!). As stated, there is an ADA-compliant bathroom downstairs and a wheelchair ramp. In spite of what you might have heard, Mainers are very friendly if you do not come across as a big-city jackass. They will be happy to talk to you about life in Maine, lobstering, etc.

Small slice of HEAVEN

  • 5 of 5

What a wonderful way to spend a week. The home is everything that you need to enjoy the sights and sounds of living on the water in Maine. It has been completely remodeled and there is a water view from every room. Every room has its own thermostat to let everyone sleep in comfort, and the bathroom floors are heated. I can not say enough about Phil (our host) he checked on us 2 or 3 times to make sure we had everything we needed and to give us recomendations on were the best local places to eat. If you want to experiance Maine this is the place to do it.

Love it and will go back SOON
