Enjoy the sound of the shore, Petit Manan Light house's fog horn and the sound of migratory ducks and shore birds. Your host Walter will deliver fresh caught lobster right from his boat to your plate. The experience of the quaint working harbor catching seasonal fish and lobster is all a stones throw away from you and your family as you vacation.

This newly constructed home stated in white window and ash wood with hard ash wood floors through out includes 3 bedrooms, (2 bedrooms upstairs, 1 down) 2 baths, (1 up, 1 down), a full size kitchen featuring custom built ash cabinets, granite counter tops and state of the art high end appliances to accommodate all your culinary needs. The full size deck invites you to experience the sounds, sights and smells of the kelp and salty air first hand.

A home equipped with all the creature comforts one would need.

Working water front of the area abounds with local history and tales of the sea, the lore of adventure that continue even today and the first hand experience and culture that has been in existence here for three generations!

Located out the front door on Petit Manan Point itself is Petit Manan Point Wildlife Refuge, Downeast Conservatory's Pigeon Hill Preserve, a quiet quaint Chapel, All Souls by the Sea, built in the 30's open to guest and visitors in July and August.

As part of the rental property you have access to Walter's 300 feet of sand and cobble stone beach front to explore, beach fire (with permission), eagles, seal and harbor porpoise sightings and observing/experiencing first hand, Walter's working wharf. Wondering about what's going on? Don't be shy, ask Walter. Seafood, clams, fresh local fish, ask Walter. Local lore and stories, Walter has three generations of historical and cultural experience up close and personal.

A short 15 minute drive away is the one time clipper ship building town of Milbridge where you will find old sea captain homes built by the very same people who designed the great clipper ships of the area. Along with a well stocked food market that has everything you need, Milbridge has gift shops, restaurants, a number of churches, medical support, a drug store, post office, public offices, a library, and museum featuring among other things the ship building industry of the area.

A few recommendations include authentic Mexican food and Maine's number one ice cream Gifforford's ice cream.

Be sure to stop at River Lily gift shop with local crafts, jewelry and books, a great card selection, all within 7 miles of Walter's Wharf.

About Melanie Stewart

Walter was an authentic third generation fisherman who was born and raised in the area locally.

He loved his heritage and the water he grew up fishing with his dad beginning at the ripe old age of four.

Walter had personal and historical stories of the time and area that he would weave and share with you as he prepped for another day doing what he has done all his life; making a living from the sea!

Sadly, Walter passed in August, 2017 after a brief illness. His legacy lives on with his middle son using and operating his fishing wharf across the street from Walter's home. His eldest and youngest son are continuing to share the house with all those who wish to experience the beauty of Downeast Maine.

Melanie Stewart purchased this house in 2014

Why Melanie Stewart chose World

Walter came by this property as it was handed down from his grandfather to his dad and from his dad to him. With a strong and steely wharf and decades of fishing/lobster gear and boats, Walter is keeping the tradition going for generations to come. His son Brian is now the owner/operator of the wharf. You will see his boat, the "Sunshine Chalet" coming and going throughout the days.

What makes this house unique

With the smell of the sea, unimaginable views, and generations of livelihood running through his veins, Walter could not imagine any other place on earth he would rather be. "Paradise exists, and I've found it right here in my quiet little village."

Peaceful Getaway!

  • 5 of 5

Walters home was the perfect place to unwind and relax! The house was beautiful, modern and relaxing and offered a beautiful view of the shoreline. The house was just a short drive to a grocery store and about an hour North of Acadia/Bar Harbor area which was easy to access. Walter and Melanie who helped with the stay were both very accommodating and even picked up fresh lobster for us to cook! I could not think of a better place or home to stay in for a trip to Maine! Thank you for your hospitality, Walter, we will be back!

I can't say enough, it was wonderful! The house is beautiful and so relaxing.

This is a great location for privacy and down time and also to get involved in the excitement of all there is to do in Maine. Bar Harbor, Arcadia, Schoodic Point, and so many other places are just about an hour away. The home is gorgeous with breathtaking views! We loved the hikes and picking blueberries at Petit Manan, located just down the street. The jogs I took in the morning along the ocean were the best. My husband loved to learn all about the lobster industry and my kids and mom loved to collect sea treasure right in front of the house when the tide went out. I can't thank you enough for all the great memories this home provided us.

Melanie was a wonderful host. The house was outstanding the views were serene and peaceful. In spite of the foggy weather, we had a wonderful time.

The fresh caught lobster delivered to the house was by far the best lobster eating and cooking experience. The fully stocked kitchen made meal prep a pleasure.
