About the property

Studio Condo, 1 Bath, (Sleeps 2)

This totally remodeled studio condo (Hanalei Bay Resort, Unit 3105) overlooks beautiful Bali Hai, the pearl of Kauai's North Shore. Watch the surfers on Hanalei Bay as you enjoy a leisurely breakfast sitting on teakwood chairs on the slate covered lanai, then go visit the island sights, but be sure to get back in time for the sunsets!

This studio unit is a one-of-a-kind within the complex! Accessible parking is just a few feet away from this first floor unit. The condo has been totally refurbished and nicely appointed with a modern Polynesian touch. The unobstructed view of Bali Hai is usually described by the guests as breathtaking. The beauty of the unit itself, the view of Hanalei Bay and Bali Hai and the accessibility and convenience of this unit make for an unparalleled combination. And it’s all within the fabulous Garden of Eden of the North Shore, the Hanalei Bay Resort. ...(NO…Please don’t stop reading, there are 3 more paragraphs of juicy information, including my cancellation policy…just click on the “More Details” link right below, OK?)

After a day of sight-seeing you might enjoy soaking in the large hot tub surrounded with travertine tile, or take a shower if that is your style. Two guests are easily accommodated in the unit. The thick pillow-topped Murphy bed assures a good night’s rest after a busy day of sightseeing. Oh, and yes, there are coolers, snorkeling gear, and some beach toys for the little ones. Oh, and I just added an iHome® Kineta Bluetooth® FM Alarm Clock Radio and Speaker for your listening pleasure.

This studio has a full kitchen. And, of course, all the counter tops are granite. Air conditioning is only needed once in a while, but it’s there if you need it. Check your email on the free Wi-Fi. A beautiful beach shared with the new St. Regis Hotel for great swimming and snorkeling is just a short walk away. And it’s all in close walking distance to all the fabulous HBR. Amenities like restaurant/bar/free parking very near the condo/tennis/pool. And, something many condos don't have: a built-in washer and dryer!

And for those of you who have read my reviews—good news! Yes, I have replaced the mattress. I think it is perfect, kind of firm, but nice and soft on top. I think you will like it! Secondly, I have significantly increased your options for storing your clothes and things, BUT, if you are staying more than a few days, and you like to unpack and put your then a few items in a spacious dresser, you will be disappointed.

NOTE: This is a Studio, is does NOT have a separate bedroom. It has a bathroom, a full kitchen, and a large room with a sofa, a queen-size Murphy bed, and a dining area with table and four chairs. One of the photos shows how the condo is configured.

And finally, I reluctantly need to inform you of two fees: First, the resort charges a $20/daily Resort Fee collected upon checkout, and Secondly, in case you didn’t notice it, VRBO/HomeAway charges a 5-10% Service Fee. Sorry, about these.

CANCELLATION POLICY: Your deposit is refundable if notice is given 60 days before your arrival. If less than 60 days before your arrival, it depends on my luck in re-renting the condo: If successful, you get a full refund. If I 'm partially successful, you get whatever I can collect. Yes, this is the most generous policy I have seen!

We also have another (adjoining) studio condo that sleeps two with a California king size bed and an exotic two-person shower. Check it out on VRBO 177160 or HomeAway 911447, and contact me for prices and more information on that unit, which might be available when this one is not.

About Dale Carlson

Audrey and I live in Sacramento, and spend as much time as possible in Kauai. We had a nice condo in building 2 at HBR but Audrey wanted (OK, insisted on!) a better view of the waves rolling in so we bought this unit in 2006, and have been very pleased with the view of the surf and of Bali Hai. The sellerr was just in the process of totally remodeling it, and we think he did a nice job.

Dale Carlson purchased this studio in 2005

What makes this studio unique

This unit is located very close to the parking lot and the pool, and is still very quiet and tranquil.

Guestbook comments from the owner

This is a beautiful resort location with everything you could need! Full kitchen, comfortable bed, and an amazing view of the mountains and ocean. It's also conveniently located to the parking lot, so you have easy access to and from the condo. We really enjoyed our stay. I gave it 4 out of 5 stars because the tub/bathroom hadn't been cleaned well and there was some confusion at check-in (neither of these are the owners fault). Also, the walls are paper thin - you can hear everything from the neighbors. Luckily our neighbors were courteous, but we could hear even quiet conversations.

Killer View and Perfect Location

  • 5 of 5

Dale's studio at Hanalei Bay Resort was perfect for the final leg of our stay in Kauai. Having never been there before, we decided to try three different properties: two on the north side and one on the southside. Dale's studio is great for two people though it would be very tight for more. The lanai looks out onto the most perfect view of Hanalei Bay with a mountain backdrop. The resort itself is a nice facility with beautiful grounds, a nice pool with swim-up bar, and many tennis courts. The beach that the resort shares with the St Regis hotel is pretty nice but shallow and not great for swimming. We preferred other beaches that we drove to along the north coast within 5 to 30 minutes from the resort. The location is central for anything you want to do on the north end of the island. We are from the San Francisco Bay area and have high standards when it comes to food. We loved the Bar Acuda restaurant, sushi rolls to go at the Dolphin, and the yummy food at the collection of food trucks in Hanalei. There is also a fantastic health food store in Hanalei with great smoothies, hot bar and salad bar. Dale's studio was well-equipped for most of our needs. Having an on-site washer and dryer was really helpful. For the price it was a great value. If you are looking for a place where you can spend a lot of time inside and want to do a lot of cooking, this is not the right property for you. Also, the bed is a bit soft so if you are a couple with a heavier person or persons you might be uncomfortable. My daughter and I were fine with the bed. Of the three places we stayed, it was our favorite, even though the condo we stayed in on the south side of the island was much larger and fancier. You cannot beat the location and the view at Dale's studio!

Didn't want to leave!

  • 5 of 5

We had such a comfortable stay at Dale's condo while on our honeymoon! Everything was as described in the listing, and it was exactly the space we needed as we explored this magnificent island. HBR is a fabulous resort as well, such friendly an accommodating staff. We had the time of our lives in Kauai! What an amazing place! You could sleep in a tent in someone's yard and love every minute of it. We snorkeled with sea turtles at Tunnels Beach, swam at Queen's Bath, and our highlight was backpacking the Na Pali Coast. We hiked the entire 11 miles to Kalalau Beach and camped for a night under the stars. Our trip to Kauai was the best time of our lives, even beating out the first 5 days we spent on Maui. We hope to visit Kauai again sooner than later, and would definitely stay at this condo again when we do. Many thanks to Dale and the HBR staff for making our stay so homey and comfortable.

Hanalei Bay Resort

  • 4 of 5

We loved everything about the Hanalei Bay Resort. The service there and the amenities are great. The unit was fine with a great view and so close to the parking lot. I do wish the owner had a better stocked kitchen. A cutting board, a 12 inch non stick fry pan, and more than 2 dinner plates would be nice. It's very hard to cut up a pineapple on a dinner plate and I would think the owner would want to protect the granite counter tops. The bed was too soft for us---but that is just a personal preference. We had a great time during our visit.

Owner's Response: Thanks for your kind review; I’m so pleased that you had a good time. I’m sorry about the bed, I might have gone a little overboard in selecting a slightly thicker memory foam mattress topper than necessary. Also sorry about the cutting board, but it was there when we were there a few months ago, and sorry about the fry-pan; I’ve always gotten by nicely with the 8/9 inch non-stick pan and the 12 inch polished aluminum fry-pan—but then I’ve never received any awards for my cooking! As I said in my Welcome Packet, please let me know of anything you need, I have a whole team of local folks who will get you (almost) anything in a matter of minutes or hours. Anyway, I appreciate your rental and your review and hope you have a wonderful summer.

San Francisco, California

our home base in the prettiest place on earth

  • 5 of 5

Pulling up to the resort was an ethereal experience. It’s hard to believe such a beautiful place exists. Our condo was amazing, it truly felt like our home away from home.we could not have been more pleased. It is far nicer than the photos show. The expansive living room has a comfortable couch and a bed overlooking the ocean - a cozy love nest. this pool is spectacular.. resembling a hidden grotto with waterfalls, and a sandy bottom. The large spa was a pleasure even in the the warm tropical rains. The Resort, exceeded our expectations. Something as simple as going for a drive and looking up at the night sky was a breathtaking experience. I have never seen such a deep black velvet sky, littered with stars.

One of the things we liked best about Dales Condo was the fully equipped kitchen. While Dining on Kauai was an amazing experience—it is pricey which is what makes Dales rental such a bargain. Cooking some meals in was an easy way to offset costs with the nearby Foodland comparable to San Francisco in terms of variety and price.

Bar-acuda Restaurant in Hanelei ; get the honeycomb . Listen to local singers at the Tahit Nui. I have been searching for a fantastic pizza since I left New York and this was out of this world. The HappyTalk lounge —the restaurant at the resort served a moist flavorful pulled pork sandwich and a great hamburger— but two sandwiches and two drinks ran us $75. Considering the priciness of food on the island cooking at ‘’home’’ is a big plus.

To tour the Napali Coast we found the best deal with Liko Kauai Cruises . These guys are not to be missed especially Captain Rob who amused us the entire way with insights and stories and impressed by getting the 50 foot catamaran into the Sea caves for spectacular views. For a great relaxing river excursion you cannot beat Hanaliei kayak.

Dale provided snorkels, fins, masks, a big straw beach hat in case you forgot yours, and a beach umbrella. There were plenty of towels, sheets, cookware, everything we could want . the staff was warm and welcoming.and for the first time in years Chris who stands 6'4 was able to enjoy stretching out in the oversize, luxurious tub.

We loved the great location, wonderful accommodations and very good price. Thanks Dale for being such a great host

warmly georgianne and Chris
