Your Island View Perch to Watch Boats and Birds from 2 Decks - On Guemes Island
Escape to the simplicity of Guemes Island in our open and airy Owl's Nest, one bedroom cabin with sleeping loft. Lots of natural light, open concept living with two decks to enjoy partial views of Saddlebag Island and Skagit Valley in the background. A place to unwind and enjoy the simple pleasures that living close to nature can bring. The Guemes Ferry is just a 10 minute crossing and the Cabin is a beautiful 10 minute drive from the dock. It’s a very special place to us that we’re sharing for the first time, in hopes that you’ll find it a relaxing and enjoyable place to hideaway for a bit. This is not a rough and ready party palace, but rather a place to unwind and enjoy the simple pleasures living close to nature can offer. A good fit for those who like to "leave no trace". Enjoy yoga on the upper deck in the morning, a hike up Guemes Mountain or along the beach during the day, and curling up with a good book in front of the fire at night. The Cabin has been recently renovated with an emphasis on earth friendly products. Locally milled, sustainably harvested fir flooring with no-VOC finish throughout. Cedar beams from the original clearing of the property. A 'nap nook' and work desk are in the loft, along with a large screen TV, WiiU, DVD player and an assortment of family friendly DVDs to enjoy the pleasures of simpler times together. There is WiFi for email, surfing and streaming but due to our location limited speeds are not enough for uploading or downloading. Please Note: Guests are expected to read & be willing to honor House Rules. No gatherings/parties or drones allowed, only booked guests can be there at any time (unless discussed/approved and additional fees paid in advance). Additional security deposit required for every booking per House Rules; booking implies agreement to pay deposit and honor rules. Unpaid deposit means no entry. No pets here, we love them but this cabin is not set up for them and there are coyotes nearby. Also The Guemes Island Store, just up from the ferry offers basic grocery supplies but it's advisable to bring your own food from the mainland for the bulk of your meals because supplies can fluctuate. They also make excellent food and baked goods for meals out.

The host requires you to complete the following before checking out:
Load and start the dishwasher
Remove personal items and remove leftover food and drinks
Turn off the lights and lock the doors
Just a reminder that garbage and recycling are across the street and a little to the left of the driveway.
On weekends and in the summer suggestion that you may want to leave a little early if you’re aiming for a particular ferry because the lines can get long.
Failure to complete these may result in a negative review from the host.
No parties or excessive noise. Close neighbors and sound travels far near water! Exterior security cameras in place, any tampering incurs fine.
Please wear slippers or indoor only shoes in the house, soft fir floors and dirt don't play well together.
No drones allowed.
Leave your pets at home this time please (we love them but the cabin is not set up for them).

What a perfect little gem on a unique island. The house was filled with personal touches that make this home unique: a thoughtful welcome basket of goodies, comfy beds, warm fire, stunning desks with views, quick walk to the beach, windows galore to enjoy the fresh air and sound of birds. But top notch more than anything was the genuine care and communication by the hosts. We will definitely stay again!

Oh Chelsey, thank you so much for your kind words and for taking such good care of the cabin! I'm so happy that you enjoyed your stay and look forward to having you back anytime.
This place is exceptional! Much more beautiful than in the photos. We were greeted with a lovely welcome basket and our two tween/teen children LOVED sharing the loft and playing Wii! The beds are comfortable and the view off the balcony is amazing! We just wish we had booked for 3 nights instead of two as we were so busy with wedding festivities that we barely got to enjoy the comforts of the owls nest. 100% recommend staying here if you are going to be on the island!

About the host
Hosted by Darcy and Bryan
We have been enjoying Guemes Island since the 1970's. We would spend summer's at Charlie's Fishing Resort on the north end of the Island (now Guemes Island Resort). Three generations and counting of our family have relaxed on Guemes. With the travel restrictions of CoVid keeping more of us closer to home, we thought we'd open up our little slice of paradise to share with you!
Why they chose this property
The Cabin on Hideaway is our family-built cabin that we have been enjoying for 30 years. We would like to share our little piece of peace with you. We are also renovating another cabin two doors down, so contact us about joint family stays if you would like a quiet, calm escape together, with some space apart. This is an ideal setting to slow down, unplug from your device, break old habits and start new ones. Come here to refresh yourself and enjoy all that Guemes has to offer. From the stunning public beaches to the top of Guemes Mountain, views and serenity await. As part of our commitment to sustainability we're offering a refund to guests who choose to bring their own sheets and towels, as it reduces the impact of laundering what are often lightly used linens. We know this doesn't work for everyone, due to travel/transportation constraints, but let us know if you are interested and able to take part in this option.
What makes this property unique
Guemes Island is a fantastic place to enjoy the beautiful outdoors in this special corner of the San Juan Islands. Bring your kayaks, paddle boards, bikes, etc. There are public beaches with boat launches, and lots of scenic roads to enjoy. Birdwatchers can scope out local owls, bald eagles, cormorants and more. Deer are also plentiful on the island and you can regularly watch them eat dinner behind the cabin. You may hear coyotes howling at the moon and fall asleep to blinking lights over the water and the sound of ships passing in the night. The Guemes Island Store, just up the hill from the ferry dock, makes excellent food. They frequently host live music events, outdoors in the summer, with a gorgeous water view backdrop behind the stage. They offer basic grocery supplies but it's advisable to bring your own food from the mainland for the bulk of your meals because supplies can fluctuate. Guemes is also an ideal base to explore the other San Juan Islands via the Washington State Ferry system which is 3.7 miles from the Guemes Terminal on the Anacortes side. Check online for schedules and reservations at https://wsdot.wa.gov/ferries. Skagit county has a lot to offer as well; explore the picturesque artistic communities of Edison or LaConner, each offering several delicious eateries. Take a trip to Deception Pass on Whidbey Island and enjoy Bowman Bay for a spectacular picnic and hike.
