What sets “Epilogue” apart from other new rentals ?? This elite two- level home is newly constructed, and is situated on Orr’s Island with spectacular ocean views ! Everything in the home is new from the furniture to the beds, as well as appliances ~ “Epilogue” runs efficiently with heat pump splits, which will delight you with air conditioning throughout the home, as well as heating !
The main floor offers an open design, including one bedroom, king size bed, (with a desk for those working remotely) , full bath, comfortable living room, and dining area, with stunning views of the ocean- The first floor also contains a five star kitchen equipped with all new appliances, along with everything you would find in your own kitchen , as well as a bar style counter, alongside a 4 seater round table suitable for those casual meals ~ All of which serving you glorious views of the ocean! The Living Room provides a comfortable sectional couch with a large screen TV, (for your streaming purposes) along with a cozy propane fireplace for chilly evenings on the island ! The dining table is large enough to seat 6, with ocean views.
The upper level presents 2 bedrooms, the master, with a king size bed, the other a queen size bed, along with spacious closets and a full bath.
The home sleeps 6, and is absolutely perfect for up to 3 couples, or 3 singles looking for a premier adult getaway ~ There is also a steep trail (the terrain is not for everyone!) alongside of the property which leads to the rocky/sandy shore for those who wish to go exploring without leaving the premises. Orr’s Island is part of Harpswell, where you can find many trails , rocky and sandy shorelines, and preserves to explore. Just a short hop to seafood restaurants, kayak rentals, gift shops, and even a local candy shop ! Just around the corner from Brunswick for grocery shopping restaurants, Bowdoin College, Maine State Music Theater, Art Museums, and so much more ! Freeport (home of the mother store of LL Bean and many outlet shops), Portland, Bath, Boothbay, Bar Harbor are all great day trips ! This home can also be accompanied by a quintessential 1920 Maine cottage, “Footnote” , just a stone’s throw from Epilogue, well appointed with a newly renovated kitchen and bath. The cottage sleeps 4 ~ both homes could accommodate 10 people in total. The cottage is equipped with 2 bedrooms, one features a queen size bed, the other with 2 twin beds. EPILOGUE & FOOTNOTE
OUR STORY
The story of Epilogue and Footnote started more than a decade ago with our dream of living on a boat. Philip owned a boatyard and had been around boats since childhood. Connie had just published a nonfiction book. We both had retired; the timing was perfect.
We bought a 42-foot Kadey Krogen trawler and set out to enjoy the “Epilogue” of our lives. And what better name for Epilogue’s inflatable dinghy/tender than “Footnote?”
For six months we traveled the entire Intracoastal Waterway to Florida and then on to the Bahamas. After traveling south, it was time to head north. We spent several summers in Maine, dodging lobster pots, watching seals -whose faces look remarkably like dogs- and chuckled to hear them snort. And of course, we checked off each entry in the long list of lighthouses along Penobscot Bay’s rocky shores.
On a cold, dreary summer day, we made our way to Harpswell and joined friends we had met boating. Once we learned how close we were to Portland, we decided “this is it!” - Harpswell is where we wanted to be.
We sold our house in Charleston, S.C., and bought our home here in Harpswell. Living on the water was so special there seemed little need to go back out to sea so the boat and dinghy were sold.
But Epilogue and Footnote live on in these rental houses - Epilogue, the sparkling new abode, and Footnote, the cozy 1920s cottage.
While one dream ended, a new one had just begun.
