About The Owner

Owner is from New Orleans who lived in Portland with family in the early 80s while managing a manufacturing plant. Learned to ski, ice fish, etc with local families. Taught college at night and completed his 20 years Naval Reserve in Kittery. After moving he continually visited the area until finally purchasing this home (Lupine Cottage). As a Southerner he appreciates the coastal northern New England, cool, pleasant summer weather.

The Owner purchased this cottage in 2004

Why The Owner chose Boothbay Harbor Area

Boothbay Harbor has always been my favorite 'outside of Portland' area. It is the largest small boating harbor in Maine with a combination of lobster and sailing vessels (including major wooden boat/ship repair facilities); visually a postcard town. The restaurants are excellent, shopping is convenient as is all services; a real quaint yet modern town with good medical facilities.

What makes this cottage unique

We chose the Lupine Cottage because of it's charm and closeness to all activities. It gives one the feeling of outdoors inside. It has been fully renovated which includes a modern kitchen and very spacious bedroom upstairs. The cottage was purchased for myself and happily for a few guests every year.

Awesome Week Getaway

  • 5 of 5

Wow, Lupine Cottage was fantastic! Great location. Perfect for 2-people. Super clean. Very comfortable and modern. The owner is WONDERFUL to work with! My husband and I took a weeks vacation, which very much needed, and this was the perfect place. Loved the footbridge into town. Boothbay Harbor is very picturesque. Local food was great. Being able to go to the waterfront to get fresh lobster to cook ourselves....what a treat. Loved the quietness of sitting on the deck. The area is very safe and welcoming. Will rent again, in the future!!! We both highly recommend renting Lupine Cottage to everyone. Thanks for the great week!

Charming cottage in a nice location

  • 5 of 5

Lupine cottage is a nice, comfortable home within easy walking distance from the harbor, shops and restaurants. The owner was easy to communicate with. I would encourage him to use VRBO for payments, though, as having to mail a check is a rather outdated method of doing business. I will say, though, that the deposit refund check came very quickly in the mail and seemed to arrive even quicker than did a VRBO credit for a stay at a different property. It would be great if a few trees in the backyard could be cut down for a better water view, but we understand that may not be possible and then the rent would probably go up! The location is nice because while close enough to walk to most everything, it is remote enough to be quiet when you want quiet.

Owner's Response: I am happy that the guest's stay at the Lupine Cottage was pleasant and we always appreciate positive comments. VRBO is tending more towards online booking. The view of the harbor through some trees, although very nice would be difficult to improve due to other private properties.

The Lupine cottage, was more than we expected. The inside is well decorated and cozy, we fell in love with the view from the deck. It was a short walk to the harbor, and all the shops and restaurants. We would recommend the Lupine cottage to everyone. We hope to revisit again soon.

Wonderful getaway

  • 5 of 5

Al's Lupine Cottage is perfect for visiting the bustling harbor while maintaining the serenity of nature that this location offers. With a deck overlooking the large backyard, you can enjoy Maine at its best while looking through the trees at the activity of the harbor below. We will have good memories of morning coffee and evening wine on the deck! The cottage is immaculate, well-decorated and generously supplied with all your needs. We previously stayed at a top-notch bed/breakfast in BBH, but we prefer the privacy of this cottage. The walk to town is just long enough to be refreshing, and the path is a better option than the steep road. However, don't miss a walk across the road to say "hi" to Moe, the delightful neighbor whose stories will entertain you. Our favorite meal was at Boathouse Bistro (yummy scallops and lobster dishes) and we highly recommend the Lazy Jack Schooner Cruise. Captain Joe was great! We found Al, the owner of Lupine, to be a consummate professional who wants to make sure his guests are happy with their stay. Thanks, Al, for sharing your home with us! We will return.

We had a wonderful time at this very clean and tidy cottage. It had all the comforts of home plus a lovely deck. It was in walking distance to the harbor with many good restaurants that we enjoyed. It was a great area for day trips to Monhegan Island, the Botanical Gardens and the Camden / Rockport area. A scenic drive along route 96 is beautiful. We really had a memorable few days and would highly recommend this cottage and the Boothbay Region to anyone who would like a nice coastal Maine experience.

We spent two wonderful weeks in the Lupine Cottage and enjoyed every minute of it. The proximity to the harbor was a perfect stroll each day. The surrounding areas visited by car couldn't have been nicer to explore. We would definitely come back here again.
