This is an authentic sawn log cabin we built ourselves with local wood from our own sawmill. The logs used for the main structure are hemlock. We used tongue and groove paneling on the walls and ceilings, and the floors are a fabulous mixture of local hardwoods. The metal roof makes music out of rainstorms! You’ll enjoy unique features such as handmade wood countertops and trim you just don’t get in “factory-built” cabins, plus the satisfaction of knowing that local labor and love were part of creating our cabin for your enjoyment, here by the riverside on our grandparents’ old family farm.

Why Mary Pangle chose Hot Springs
We built this cabin on this piece of property that my grandparents owned. This is a way of being able to keep this property in the family and for the family to enjoy and remember the good old times. I spent a lot of time here and this place is so dear to my heart.
What makes this Cabin unique
Stroll across the lawn to our riverside deck, looking back to enjoy the sight of the mountain rising behind your log cabin, its white rocks glowing in the sun (or the moonlight!). Sit by the river with the light sparkling on the water as the wind rustles the leaves, watch the cows graze and drink along the opposite bank, and wave to the rafters as they come by. As the sun fades over the river, everyone can enjoy a good meal (fresh trout, perhaps?) cooked on the gas grill and a well-deserved soak in the hot tub. Try to stay awake long enough to watch the stars come out — the Milky Way can put on a big show up here! Enjoy a scenic drive in any direction — we are surrounded by the National Forest and its natural unspoiled beauty. Don’t forget your camera — you might miss a once-in-a-lifetime shot! Keep a lookout for the wildlife — deer, turkeys, rabbits, raccoons, foxes, mink, groundhogs, otters, and yes, even black bears. Bald eagles, kestrels, hawks, great blue herons, ospreys, falcons, purple martins, cedar waxwings, ravens, swallows, indigo buntings, goldfinches and an array of waterfowl can be spotted while sitting right on the front porch of your log cabin. The large sloping lawn is a great place to enjoy the wide-open spaces — whether playing badminton, Frisbee, croquet, throwing balls for the dog, or just taking in the view beside the pond. In the evening you can sit by the fire ring, gaze at the stars or catch lightning bugs, dependent on age and inclination. Walking out the door of your log cabin you can enjoy rafting, tubing and trout fishing, an easy stroll or bike tour down River Road, hiking or backpacking on the Appalachian Trail. Cyclists will enjoy our two nearby mountain bike courses, or a quick run downriver to the Paint Rock Corridor (and the Tennessee state line) and back. River Road is coaster-bike friendly! So many choices!

Breath of fresh air!
Absolutely amazing. Close to town, but still feels secluded. Just what we needed.
We are pleased you enjoyed our place. We look forward to you returning. Thank you for a great review.
This is a pretty little cabin in a nice location.
We had a nice time and it helped that we could bring the dogs.
We are so glad you enjoyed yourself. Thank you for your review.
Clean and simple. Beautiful front yard. Deck across the street overlooking river
Great winter cabin. Cozy and warm. Wonderful outdoor grill and hot tub. Pet friendly is a big plus
Thank you for your great review. I am glad you enjoyed your stay. We hope you come back soon.
This cabin was exactly what my husband and I needed for our private weekend getaway for just the two of us. It had a great view of the mountains and the French Broad River just sitting on the front porch. The cabin had a full kitchen, a big bathroom and roomy shower, a decent sized bedroom and a full living room with cable TV. The drive into town was short and beautiful. We would drive into town to eat and for daily activities and then come back to the cabin and soak in the hot tub for the rest of the night. Very relaxing and welcoming. The owners were amazing! We called them on our way down Friday morning and they got us booked right away. The normal check-in time is 3pm but when we arrived earlier than 3pm they had no problem letting us check-in early. Inside the cabin, the owners even had a little guide book to tell you about the companies, restaurants and activities that you could do nearby. Overall we loved it and we will be back.
We are so pleased that you enjoyed your stay. It makes my day when people are happy with our place. We look forward to you returning. Thank you for your kind review.
Beautiful location & cabin, but not restful due to bed
This cabin has a wonderful quiet location, beautiful view of the French Broad River and a quick walk down to it. Quick drive into Hot Springs and many hikes nearby. The cabin is lovely, had everything we needed (except a hair dryer would have been nice), has a nice fireplace and baseboard heat that warmed it up quickly, beautiful log table and bathroom vanity, nice hot tub on the front deck. We plan to return to Hot Springs in July and would love to stay here again, except, the only downfall and it was a big one, was the bed. This was our last stay on an 8-day vacation in NC and the bed was terribly uncomfortable and the bed frame is unfortunately very loud/creaky any time you move. We were awakened at 2am due to back/hip discomfort and the noisy frame. The 2nd night wife slept on the couch (which was much better) and husband slept on the floor on additional couch pillows. All in all, we had a great time in Hot Springs, hiked the Lovers Leap trail, did some scenic driving, stopped in at the tavern and sat by the river on the deck outside, saw some AT backpackers, drove up River Rd to picnic in the beautiful park. Like I said, we will be returning in July and would consider staying here again, but want to have well rested sleep on our vacation and a new bed and bed frame would be the key not only to a return stay, but our willingness to recommend it to our friends and family. Thank you for the stay!
We are glad you liked our cabin. We have not had but 1 other person that said the bed was uncomfortable. We are sorry that the bed was not to your comfort. I will check it today for the squeakiness. Thank you for your review.
Nice Hot Springs Getaway
This was my second trip to Hot Springs and my first time staying at The Rock. For the value, the accommodations were great. The cabin was clean and reasonably appointed. I would recommend the following, though, for future guests, to make their stay perfect. First, the little toaster oven probably needs to be replaced. We brought bread for toasting and it took about 15 minutes on the highest setting. So, if you are hoping to cook, plan on using the grill or the stove and not an oven. Second, there could be more drinking glasses. We ended up going into town and buying some glasses to use at the local hardware store. Third, some antibacterial dish soap, a newer sponge, and possibly even some cleaning supplies would be nice. There was really nothing in the way of kitchen supplies other than some salt and pepper, so be sure to bring whatever basics you might need.
Overall, we enjoyed our stay and would stay again. Very peaceful and private location for a getaway.
Thank you for your response. We are looking into putting in a full size stove with an oven. There should have been dish liquid in the kitchen. We do have a service for 4 on glasses, plates, saucers, bowls, and silverware. I will check today to make sure no one has taken any of them out. We do not supply any food supplies for cooking. You do have to bring those yourself. Again Thank you for your review.
Hot Springs is a great place for hiking, biking, rafting, kayaking, fishing, swimming, horseback riding, skeet shooting, birdwatching, nature photography, trout streams, wildlife, bluegrass music, waterfalls, scenic by-ways, u-pick farms, glorious fall color, great restaurants, local foods, arts & crafts, hot mineral springs, massage, and just plain sittin' on the porch!
