The Krause home is amazing! The beds are comfortable, the view from the top of the driveway is beautiful (overlooking the home, the mountains behind and the open sky). The open kitchen was great. The lower level is perfect for kids and just hanging out. I definitely have to return during a warmer month to sleep on the outside beds (Great concept)! The winds were so brisk at night that I thought the house was lifted off to Kansas when we woke up 😁. The only con I have is that the pots and pans may need an upgrade. Overall we had an amazing time and truly enjoyed the home. Would absolutely stay again.

Amazing, gorgeous and incredible......absolute gem

  • 5 of 5

We stayed for 7 nights, starting the day after Christmas thru New Years Day. This cabin and the owners are the easiest and nicest owners to work with. Everything as described in the overview and more. From the moment we drove on the driveway to the moment we left, we did not have one complaint. The three stories give plenty of room for adults and kids of ANY age. The views of the beautiful mountains change daily from clear, foggy, cloudy, and snowy, you can see so far!!!!! Seeing frost and ice on the peaks was amazing, and knowing we could still go out and enjoy the day. Everything was ready, tons of blankets, towels, books, some games and we all enjoyed ping pong. Anything you need for the kitchen is supplied and the Ingles market is minutes away. We enjoyed the hot tub nightly and the fireplace also. We even did a couple bonfires at night in the cold. The owners left instructions for tv's, which were rarely used and lots of info on the area. From day one we hiked areas we only read about. even took the kids over the border to NC to Scaly Mtn. for snow tubing, very close. This is a wonderful town we discovered and there is so much around. The owners had beautiful Christmas decorations that were so welcoming. Lake Chatuge is down the road and we walked the trail several times, we bet is is just as pretty in the summer. Our kids ranged from 8-18 and there is absolutely something to do inside the cabin, outside of it and all around. We plan to make a visit back in the summer, it was a perfect fit! Shelby and Paul

Georgia Mountain Fall Festival

  • 4 of 5

I chose this cabin because of it's proximity to the Georgia Mountain Fall Festival, just a few short miles away. Only 4 of our original 7 adults were able to make the trip but the cabin was very accommodating, quite cozy and comfortable. It just so happened that the weather took a change from the hot humid summer in Georgia to a fall like few days that made the mountains even more enjoyable. We took firewood and the first evening were able to sit around the fire pit in the lovely garden area that had a small pond, a grill area, a hot tub and even a Fairy Garden built into the retaining rock wall. It wasn't cool enough to use the fireplace inside, maybe next time. Morning brought a gorgeous layer of fog covering the distant mountains, which we enjoyed while drinking coffee while sitting in the rocking chairs on the back porch. Because the sun was so bright on the back porch in the evenings, we sat on the cozy front porch before cooking dinner on the grill. The cabin seemed to have all comforts of home needed to appreciate the get-away. A plan to stay there in the future has already been discussed.

Spacious house with beautiful views

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed our stay at this beautiful mountain home. There was enough space for 6 adults not to feel like they were crowded. We lounged on the porch and in the cozy den. Would be a great home for a family with children as the bottom floor is a great set up for kids.

Attention to detail, beautiful view, secluded

  • 5 of 5

We LOVED the House of Krause! Three floors of meticulously-decorated mountain cabin, perfect for relaxing! Three decks/balconies with a view of the mountains, and the lowest desk is screened-in and a great place to relax. There's a twin-sized bed in there also, which was added after the pictures were taken. That was a nice bed to lounge on right by the edge and feel like you were tucked away in a little secluded corner. :) There is a corner jacuzzi tub in the master bathroom--Perfection!! (Also a separate shower in there.) Ping-pong in the game room was great fun! (If you're an avid player, you may want to bring your own paddles, as these have been used and abused by many people.) This is a secluded subdivision, but you can't see/hear any other houses from the house. (Well, one partial rooftop nestled through the trees a good distance away.) The decks face West-Northwest in case you need to know that for photography purposes. (Sunset views from the decks, behind the mountains!) Kitchen is fully stocked with dishes, bathrooms are fully stocked with towels, there are extra linens and blankets in the bedroom closets, and bird seed and hummingbird nectar for the feeders. Wifi was reliable! Mark (owner) was so kind in his email and phone communications with me. We loved the peacefulness and seclusion. Definitely, definitely a PERFECT vacation spot!

Beautiful, Cozy, Charming Cabin, Excellent Owner's

  • 5 of 5

It was 9 of us and this cabin was large enough for all of us to be comfortable. The view was stunning from every angle of the cabin. The only noticeable complaint is the driveway was very hard to get into with lowered vehicles, if it was leveled out it would have been a breeze. The cabin is tricky to find but with the instructions and a map it is findable. Mark was very helpful with our stay. The king and queen beds were a little uncomfortable as well as the pillows. I will be returning for sure!!

About Mark F. Krause

My wife and I purchased this house in April of 2007. One year later after an approximate $100,000 in renovations, additional landscaping and furnishings, we opened our vacation home for travelers around the world to enjoy! Our original intent was to enjoy this property in the spring and fall, but we have found that the winter and summer months are spectacular as well. Please enjoy our home and the beauty of the North Georgia Mountains!

Why Mark F. Krause chose Hiawassee

Our vacation property was built on the side of a mountain at approximately 2,600 feet and has a $1,000,000 view. This property is close to Lake Chatuge, Downtown Hiawasee, GA, Historic, Helen, GA and Brasstown Valley Resort. We are also within two hours driving distance of Maggie Valley, North Carolina for winter sports.

What makes this estate unique

Very secluded, family-friendly, private property with fantastic mountain views! Too many amenities to list!

Guestbook comments from the owner

A group of six guys came up for the weekend to enjoy some golf, hiking and local fishing. This cabin was amazing! This was a last minute booking and after a lot of price comparisons, we made a great decision for our accommodations! The owners put a lot of detail to the decorating and landscaping and there are too many amenities to mention! We enjoyed watching sports on the new 55inch LG TV mounted above the fireplace. The hot tub was positioned next to a beautiful outdoor rock fire pit! There are three levels to this cabin with a private deck for each level. Several members of our party enjoyed the screened sleep-in porch adjacent to the game room on the lower level. Boundary Waters Marina was a short drive from the property where we were able to rent a boat for Saturday fishing.

The owners were a joy to work with and they recommended several local restaurants and golf courses for our entertainment.

Many of our group plan to come back with our families for an extended vacation. All-in-All, we had a great weekend and would recommend this property to anyone looking for a great mountain vacation in the Northeast Georgia Mountains!
