About Dennis and Lynne

Family of four. Reside in Charlotte, NC but wishes they could be at the cabin all the time. Adults work for the school system that both boys attend and in County government. Dogs and chickens are also a part of the family!

Dennis and Lynne purchased this chateau / country house in 2007

Why Dennis and Lynne chose Boone

Purchased for weekend getaways from the hustle and bustle of big city life. Within easy driving distance of home, but offers an experience that is truly transcendent.

What makes this chateau / country house unique

Peaceful and quiet, the cabin provides a break from the heat and high humidity of Charlotte summers. An amazing place to watch snow fall while nestled in front of the warm fireplace. Summer activities include hiking area trails or just walking the neighborhood, playing in the park in downtown Blowing Rock; or horseback riding. Winters are spent skiing, shopping, and enjoying each others' company. The wraparound porch offers some amazing views. The wood construction of the A-frame house is rustic, solid, and charming.

Disappointed

  • 2 of 5

Access instruction very vague, very cold upon arrival, only 3 towels and 2 washcloths for a home that sleeps 8, uncomfortable beds and pillows, no mattress covers and cheap linens, no spices not even salt and pepper, no iron, as a host myself i know now why I️ have a 5 star rating this place is not even a 3 star in my opinion disappointed

Owner's Response: The guest did not let us know of any concerns during their stay. Unable to address a situation that we are unaware of. Regret that the stay was less than satisfactory for you. As a follow up, we did visit the house ourselves this week. I can categorically state that the beds had pads on each of the mattresses...but will admit that the cleaners had fallen short of our expectations for prep and supplies. We have, in fact, made a change in the cleaning service who will be caring for our cabin as a result of this review. However, we do stand by our statement that we would still have rather been made aware of the issues at the time of the stay in order to have had an opportunity to address them.

We stayed at this property for a long weekend with our kids in late fall. The house was as expected--a cozy mountain A-frame. We liked the warm, comfortable living area and kitchen as well as the rocks (boulders) outdoors, which the kids enjoyed climbing on. It would have been 5/5 but for some lights that did not work in the bedrooms.

Good value and great location.

  • 4 of 5

We enjoyed our stay at this cabin. It's a great value for the money if you are looking for three bedrooms/two bathrooms...quaint in a 70's decor way. If you are sensitive to moisture issues just be aware...we kept the dehumidifiers running 24/7. Overall tho, we enjoyed the deck, the great location, the number of beds and baths and the open floorplan. We'd stay here again 😀

Cozy family retreat

  • 4 of 5

We loved the setting and the fact that we could bring our dog (with none of the ridiculous pet fees that many other owners charge). The cabin was rustic but had all the comforts of home that we are used to. Being Floridians, we were apprehensive about not having A/C, but due to the climate of the area, we didn't need it on the warmest day. There is some need for overall maintenance, but that mostly became obvious on the rainy days we were stuck inside long enough to notice. Loved the area and would stay at this cabin again.

Great stay in Boone!

  • 3 of 5

I want to start saying that Dennis is a great person and provided me with all the support I needed since the beginning.

It was easy to get to the cabin. The security officer in the security cabin was very polite and helpful.

The cabin is located in a beautiful landscape, close to a golf course, in which we took a pleasant walk in the morning.

We were in 6 people (2 children) and stayed 1 night mainly to do snow tubing at Hawksnest. The cabin was near to everything we needed (15min drive). The cabin was clean and the size was right for us. We all (included the children) loved the place and had a great time, mainly because of its great mountain-cabin atmosphere. Children keep asking to come back! :)

I totally recommend other people to stay!

PS: None of the issues mentioned in other reviews were there. Keep in mind that the cabin is an old construction though, the main reason for the 3-star rating. You should not expect a fancy, modern cabin, but this fact didn't impact our weekend at all! Actually it was a somewhat cool! :)

The wall heaters worked very well and we didn't use the spare ones. Actually, if your turn the spares on, the circuit break can't handle. The property manager helped us with this in less than 15min. Great support!

Cozy cabin nestled in trees
Car: necessary

Hound Ears Club is a gated residential community. Situated just off the Blue Ridge Parkway and adjacent to Moses Cone Park, the neighborhood offers privately maintained roads and 24 hour security in an amazingly serene setting.

Our home is convenient to downtown Blowing Rock, with its municipal park, quaint shopping and fine dining options. It also is just minutes from Boone; attractions there include collegiate sports at Appalachian State University and a diverse culinary scene. Valle Crucis Park is an amazing gem tucked behind the original Mast General Store, where kids can run and play while parents walk the track. Great base for exploring the Blue Ridge Parkway, whether for a scenic drive or to undertake hikes from easy to challenging. Walking to the top of Hound Ears is a challenge in and of itself; a stunning view of Grandfather Mountain is among the rewards of the walk. Ski Appalachian and Sugar Mountain ski slopes are just a brief car ride away. Tweetsie Railroad and The Blowing Rock are family-focused attractions nearby.

Our house offers a beautiful place to watch the leaves change in autumn, a welcome respite from the heat and humidity of summer, and a cozy place to curl up by the fire and read as snow falls around you in winter. Four wheel drive vehicles are not required to access the house nor the amenities the area has to offer.
