We are both in the film industry which brought us to beautiful state of California. I came from Canada 12 years ago and Stuebe from Chicago, 30 years ago. Given our lifestyles, we both ended up living in Venice which we love. We love getting on our bikes and cycling down to the beach/boardwalk or Abbot Kinney Boulevard where you are bound to run into someone you know. That is the beauty of Venice. When we are not working or looking after Glencoe Retreat, we love to hook up our Holiday House to our 64 Chevy and travel up the coast to enjoy the California coastline.
Denny Kennedy purchased this house in 2001
We love the fact that the property is just far enough away from the beach where you will have quiet, serene nights without the noise of beach traffic. You will not have to fight to find parking and you can get on a bike to be at the beach in 10-15 minutes.
The owners have an outdoor pizza oven that they are sure to start up when you stay! And the pizza is divine!
There is also a charging station on the property for electric car users.

"I just got back from an amazing stay at the glencoe retreat in venice, it was
the perfect lodging for my business trip. the retreat is this quiet little green
oasis, sheltered from the everyday stress. the house is spacious, uncluttered
and equipped with everything you could possibly need, so you can rest,
reflect and do what you need to do. the bathtub out in the courtyard was a sublime experience, especially as a pre-dawn meditation. starting my day there was a rare treat. every day i woke up refreshed and ready
for work. my only regret is that i couldn't stay longer."
We loved our time at Glencoe Retreat - every detail, and I mean EVERY detail, has been so thoughtfully considered for the ultimate comfort and style. We had cooler climes than normal for LA and our vacationing spirits were not dampened, in part due to our warm welcome by Denny and Stuebe and also because the cottage became a cozy home base that we were happy to return to at the end of a day exploring. We loved the location - felt like locals in the hip hood - with Venice Beach a quick drive/bike ride away, and lots of insider reccos from our hosts for dining and coffee-ing.....we can't wait to return! Thanks, D & S!!!
Loved staying at Glencoe. Beautiful neighborhood and an awesome location. The owners are gracious hosts. Will definitely return.
Back to our hometown for not quite a week, and I'm feeling homesick for The Glencoe Retreat. Wow!! What a great find and great location this was. After a rocky start to our vacation, and having not-so-fun experiences with other properties we booked for the trip, we stumbled on to the Glencoe Retreat in a beautiful Venice neighborhood. It was love at first sight, and I felt positive vibes instantly. Settling in made the early days of our trip a complete blur. Thank God for that! It's as if we were supposed to be there all along. Thank you Denny and Stuebe! You were the perfect hosts, and you both made our experience in your beautiful space even that much better. I said it during our trip, and I'll say it again: that walking through that gate every day felt like home. The cottage has all the comforts you could want, and was welcoming in every way. The bottle of Culton wine, and the warm welcome note was such a wonderful touch on arrival too!! That wine was FABULOUS, and how fun to now be part of the "Cult". We're looking forward to our first wine shipment. :) From the well stocked kitchen, to the comfy bed and linens, to our bikes rides during the day, and the backyard bubble baths at night, we couldn't have asked for anything more. I can't wait to come back. Your retreat truly saved me, and our vacation! Thank you, thank you, thank you! Sending you two beautiful souls a big hug from Buffalo, New York.
We rented the 1 bedroom and it was perfect. The cottage is beautifully decorated, exceptionally clean and super comfortable. We all wanted to make it our permanent home!
Denny is delightful! She was easy to reach and communicate with during the whole process.
The Glencoe Retreat was all that we hoped for and the surprises were fun ones-like the lovely bottle of wine and welcome note!
The queen bed was very comfortable. The bedding was high quality and in perfect condition. We had one family member sleep on the couch and he found it very comfortable as well. We slept with the windows open and--as Denny promised—the evening breeze was cool and the sleeping temperature was perfect.
One of our highlights was using the beach cruisers to bike along the coast from Venice Beach to Santa Monica and back. It felt magical.
Parking in front of the cottage was easy and always available. The neighborhood felt safe. The neighbors were welcoming and greeted us warmly.
The private garden was a beautiful and peaceful place to begin and end each day.
We highly recommend the Glencoe Retreat and look forward to our next visit.
Thank you, Denny and Stuebe for all the little and big things you did to make our vacation wonderful!
Summer was closing in on us and I needed something quick that was far enough away from home but close enough to drive so we went to VRBO in search of an appropriate place to settle for a few days in Venice.
I came across the Glencoe Retreat and immediately felt a good vibe from the reviews that were written. My emails were promptly answered and the communication was quick and thorough. Our hosts weren't just hosts. They made this mom who had driven six hours straight with two kids in the car feel like we were coming home. Denny and Stuebe waited us for us to arrive, showed us right in and put us quickly at ease. (at midnight on a work night!)
We loved it so much there that we took advantage of the fact that the space was available for two more nights and stayed a little longer than planned when my husband flew down to join us. The accommodations are perfect...clean and tidy, everything one could need tucked thoughtfully away. As an interior designer by trade I appreciated the thoughtfulness of the layout and how they fit so much into one small place. The cozy court yard with an outdoor bathtub which my daughter and I thoroughly adored, was used for morning pages and meditation by me. The cottage deck is semi private with the main house up front and an outdoor kitchen and deck in between. We were lucky enough to be included for a meal and LOVED it!
And getting around Venice on bikes was fun. We decided just to explore and go where the bikes took us. Denny and Stuebe and their darling cottage are the perfect get away to experience Venice as a local and we can't wait to go again. Perfect for couples, singles or family with no more than two kids.
So many great things to say — the design is clean, modern and cozy, the private yard is heaven, the landscaping to die for. Visiting Denny and Stuebe is like staying with your hip aunt and uncle, who live in California. Kind hearted and fun, they are quality folks. The location is in a lovely neighborhood, tons of stuff to do a short drive away. Great restaurants, something for everyone, great for veggie heads and gluttons. A unique experience, and so relaxing.
