Absolutely perfect setting and a lovely experience

  • 5 of 5

This is one of the most beautiful spots on the North Shore. The backyard and the deck of this home are relaxation personified. Gorgeous setting in a lovely location. Kay is one of the most gracious people alive. She is helpful and so kind. This is an absolute perfect place to stay.

Peaceful Experience with Adventure Available

  • 5 of 5

We had a great experience! Listening to the waves at night, watching the whales jump while we ate breakfast on the patio overlooking the beach and not far from adventure. We enjoyed the food trucks (have to try a shaved ice) that are within walking distance as well as snorkeling at Sharks Cove. Our best snorkeling spot was Turtle Beach Resort which is a public beach with lots of space to snorkel and enjoy the colorful fish. You are also not far from the small 'downtown' area with additional restaurants and shops. A great adventure for all families is the short hike to Waimea Falls where you can swim near the waterfall - small admission to the park but free usage of life jackets (all sizes available) once you arrive at the Falls. Overall an amazing experience!

Truly a zen retreat!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I had such a memorable stay at Kay's beach paradise home. The place lives up to it's description as a zen beach retreat, but it also has the convenience of being on the bike path and within walking distance to Food Trucks, Sharks Cove and Foodland grocery store. The best part was listening to the sound of the pounding surf and the cool ocean breezes that would lull us to sleep each night. In the morning we would enjoy a cup of coffee on the small deck in the back yard, which overlooks the beach. It was easy to rent bikes just down the street, so there was no need to drive. We had fun exploring all the lovely beaches along the K highway. Kay is a lovely host, so interesting to talk to. The studio has all you need: comfortable bed, nice bathroom with a very basic kitchen that is good enough for quick, easy meals like breakfast or lunch.

My husband and I were lucky enough to spend four nights at Kay's studio. The location is unbeatable, and the studio provides everything you need for your stay. The waves in February were unbelievable, the beach is gorgeous and the studio steps away from great food trucks, grocery store, and many many beaches and hikes. My most memorable moment was watching the whales breach while drinking coffee on the beach in the morning while I was the only one around! Kay is lovely, and we enjoyed a nice chat with her, she is very welcoming. We hope to visit this special place again soon!

Great Getaway

  • 5 of 5

A heartfelt thank you for the opportunity to stay at the studio, Kay. We simply had the best time because the location is unbeatable and the studio offered everything that we needed. From the Lanai we watched the sunrise in the morning, overlooking the beautiful sandy beach. At night, it was a dream to fall asleep to the soothing sound of the waves. The famous food trucks, a grocery store, a surf shop, as well as snorkeling opportunities are located within walking distance down the bike trail. Talking to Kay is enriching.....we'll be back for shore:) Mahola

On A Sandy Beach In Paradise

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at Kay's lovely home for a week in November 2015. Kay's home is perfectly situated on the North Shore of Oahu. I say perfectly situated because of its central location. It's only a few minutes to everything that the North Shore has to offer like snorkeling at Three Tables and Sharks Cove, Foodland, Pipeline, Sunset Beach, Waimea Bay and so many other awesome places. The house is the perfect two bedroom beach bungalow. There is a lanai out back that has a very nice dining room table for relaxing or having meals. But then the cannot be described as anything but paradise. The backyard is lush green with palm trees and tropical flowers. You can walk directly from Kay's backyard right onto Ke Iki Beach. You can hear the waves crashing onshore from the house, which is very relaxing at night. You would have to pay much much more for a hotel room with a view and beach access like this. We bought groceries at Foodland and prepared some of our own meals in the kitchen at Kay's house, that is very convenient and a cost savings. The furniture at Kay's is very comfortable and inviting, you really feel at home and welcome here. Kay lives a life of adventure judging by the photo books and other artwork and things in her home, and she welcomes you to enjoy looking at all the various treasures from her travels. If you want a home base from which to explore the North Shore this is the place, we've stayed here twice and I highly recommend it.

About Kay DeWeee

I live here on the North Shore of Oahu and the beauty is so incomparable I enjoy sharing it with guests. When I built this house in 1999 I planned it to be able to share with others.

I frequently travel to Africa where I teach in a school for Maasai girls. When I am away, my home is available for rent. When I am at home the studio which adjoins the house is available. The photo is from a climb up Mt Fuji in 2008.

Kay DeWeee purchased this studio in 2000

Why Kay DeWeee chose Haleiwa

This is not a commercial vacation rental. It is my home which is available when I am traveling. It has all the comforts of home...because it is a home. I love living here at the beach, watching the sun sink into the ocean every night, watching the surf curl and flow onto the beach. In the winter we watch for whales blowing and breaching.

What makes this studio unique

Being able to walk out morning or evenings without a jacket or sweater is a delight. The bike path in front of the house invites good walking or biking and good health. Strolling the beach, looking for shell, snooze in the hammock, provide respites for a hurried life. It's a short drive to Turtle Bay Resort which offers golf, horseback riding, beach dining and fine dining. In the winter the world class surfing competitions are held here on the North Shore and a walk from the house.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We can't tell you how much we enjoyed your beautiful piece of paradise. We snorkled at Three Tables and boogy-boarded at Sunset. it provided the perfect backdrop for our special celebration.
