Whether watching the humpback whales breaching, the Hawaiian spinner dolphins spinning, or napping/reading in the hammock or lounge chairs, this Hawaiian vacation will be unforgettable.

I live here on the North Shore of Oahu and the beauty is so incomparable I enjoy sharing it with guests. When I built this house in 1999 I planned it to be able to share with others.
I frequently travel to Africa where I teach in a school for Maasai girls. When I am away, my home is available for rent. When I am at home the studio which adjoins the house is available. The photo is from a climb up Mt Fuji in 2008.
Kay DeWeee purchased this studio in 2000
This is not a commercial vacation rental. It is my home which is available when I am traveling. It has all the comforts of home...because it is a home. I love living here at the beach, watching the sun sink into the ocean every night, watching the surf curl and flow onto the beach. In the winter we watch for whales blowing and breaching.
Being able to walk out morning or evenings without a jacket or sweater is a delight. The bike path in front of the house invites good walking or biking and good health. Strolling the beach, looking for shell, snooze in the hammock, provide respites for a hurried life. It's a short drive to Turtle Bay Resort which offers golf, horseback riding, beach dining and fine dining. In the winter the world class surfing competitions are held here on the North Shore and a walk from the house.
We can't tell you how much we enjoyed your beautiful piece of paradise. We snorkled at Three Tables and boogy-boarded at Sunset. it provided the perfect backdrop for our special celebration.
A heartfelt thank you for the opportunity to stay at the studio, Kay. We simply had the best time because the location is unbeatable and the studio offered everything that we needed. From the Lanai we watched the sunrise in the morning, overlooking the beautiful sandy beach. At night, it was a dream to fall asleep to the soothing sound of the waves. The famous food trucks, a grocery store, a surf shop, as well as snorkeling opportunities are located within walking distance down the bike trail. Talking to Kay is enriching.....we'll be back for shore:) Mahola
We stayed at Kay's lovely home for a week in November 2015. Kay's home is perfectly situated on the North Shore of Oahu. I say perfectly situated because of its central location. It's only a few minutes to everything that the North Shore has to offer like snorkeling at Three Tables and Sharks Cove, Foodland, Pipeline, Sunset Beach, Waimea Bay and so many other awesome places. The house is the perfect two bedroom beach bungalow. There is a lanai out back that has a very nice dining room table for relaxing or having meals. But then the view...it cannot be described as anything but paradise. The backyard is lush green with palm trees and tropical flowers. You can walk directly from Kay's backyard right onto Ke Iki Beach. You can hear the waves crashing onshore from the house, which is very relaxing at night. You would have to pay much much more for a hotel room with a view and beach access like this. We bought groceries at Foodland and prepared some of our own meals in the kitchen at Kay's house, that is very convenient and a cost savings. The furniture at Kay's is very comfortable and inviting, you really feel at home and welcome here. Kay lives a life of adventure judging by the photo books and other artwork and things in her home, and she welcomes you to enjoy looking at all the various treasures from her travels. If you want a home base from which to explore the North Shore this is the place, we've stayed here twice and I highly recommend it.
The best part of our stay at this studio on the beach was that the homeowner was there. What a gracious host she was! The studio is perfrct for a couple, and is sttached to the home but private. You can enter the studio by a separate side door and the owner is careful to give you your privacy. She is, however, wonderful to talk to and very accommodating! We were able to use the gorgeous, lush back yard and have a separate deck with chairs and a BBQ to ourselves, just a few steps to the sandy pristine beach! The sunsets left us speechless, and often there were only 5 other people in sight! We were able to borrow snorkle equipment and towels, etc. We had our own parking area for the rental car, and this is a great location to have access to the entire North Shore. er feel very lucky to have stumbled onto this studio, and are anxious to return again soon!
My husband and I stayed in Kay's studio for 10 days. The backyard area with views of the ocean turned out to be our favorite location, absolutely beautiful. We watched the sunset on the ocean and whales breach daily from the little deck in the backyard. There is easy access to the beach. It feels fairly secluded with some people enjoying the beach, but it never became crowded while we were there. A short walk away are more popular beaches with people surfing and snorkeling. We stayed in the winter making the waves more intense then they are in the summer months, so it is recommended people swim with caution or have some experience. Also within walking distance using the bike path is a Foodland grocery store with everything you may need and some food trucks. A short drive away is the little surfing town of Halewai with shops and places to eat. Between the studio and Haleiwa is a beach that you may get to see turtles resting on the sand or swimming. Traffic along the highway can get busy depending on the time of day due to the popular locations in between Haleiwa and the studio. We were told by one local that it isn't as busy in the summer months. The studio itself was very clean and well maintained. The size was comparable to a motel room with a double bed, bathroom, small refrigerator, and small kitchenette. Perfect for one or two people. There is no ocean view from the studio, but you can hear the ocean waves. It is just a short walk to the other side of the house to be in the gorgeous backyard. There are beach chairs, snorkeling gear, a cooler, beach towels, etc., all available for guests to use. Kay herself is an amazing and gracious woman! She was always extremely helpful, but gave us our privacy. If we stay in Oahu again, we now will only stay at Kay's slice of paradise! We highly recommend the studio, and even Kay's house for anyone wanting a peaceful, beautiful getaway. Kay, thank you for sharing your home with us!
We loved or one week stay in the studio. Kay genuinely cares that her guests have the ultimate Hawaii experience. The location and proximity to all things North Shore is outstanding. The beach is exquisite. We are from Southern California or "almost" paradise. A stay here is paradise...
To borrow a phrase from The Beach Boys, we are "saving our pennies and our dimes" for the next return to paradise.
It was a very beautiful stay in this studio. We are so thankful to meet such a lovely person like Kay. She always had an open ear if we had questions. Thank you so much for an amazing stay at your home!! I hope we will see eachother one day again.
God bless you!
Polynesian Cultural Center, the most frequently visited tourist attraction on the island, is a 20 minute drive from the house. Waimea Valley, a must-see garden and park is a 5 minute drive away. There is a waterfall in the park where you can swim, but the garden is most excellent .
