About Carrie

Both being musicians and writers, our house is a place for creativity and reflection. Our house is 14 years old and we built it with the thought of it being a refuge from travel and a crazy on-the-road life. It has been all we dreamed of and more!

Carrie purchased this house in 2001

Why Carrie chose Divide

Perfect for couples.

NOT SUITABLE FOR CHILDREN UNDER 6.

What makes this house unique

Our house sits on 4 gorgeous acres covered with aspen and pine trees. With coffee mug in hand, we often walk the road that loops around our mountain and enjoy the fresh morning air. It is quiet neighborhood where residents respect nature and appreciate the serenity that mountain life offers. The house is in a quiet cul-de-sac with two mountain chalets either side. Wildlife abounds. Deer, elk, fox, rabbit and even Colorado brown bear are a common sight. We are six miles from the cozy western town of Cripple Creek with its silver mine, horse back riding, train, and casinos. Muller State Park and The Crags are both a 10 minute drive; where you can hike and even see elk and long horn sheep.

Guestbook comments from the owner

The views were amazing and we saw a double rainbow! It was the perfect place to spend our 25th anniversary. We celebrated by taking a jeep tour up Pikes Peak. Your home is beautiful!

Beautiful house and view. Not without drawbacks.

  • 3 of 5

We were warned that the only bathroom was downstairs while master bedroom, living area & kitchen were upstairs. Not the best layout. Stairway is narrow & steep. Not fun for late night head calls. Worst problem was lack of wifi. Password apparently recently changed & no amount of attempts to connect were successful. No response from owner after a trip to Divide to send a help message. Not much fun with no cell phone or wifi service. Thankfully DIRECTV kept us up to date on weather. House is nice & view is breath taking. We probably won't request permission to stay there again.

Owner's Response: Our apologies about your internet experience. We have never had this happen before. Sadly, we were deep in a closed county with no internet access too. It is so unfortunate that this happened during the one time a year we were not contactable. My apologies again. As to the steep steps. They are normal inside house steps and meet all Teller County Code required for steps with handrails. The bathroom downstairs is advertised as the only bathroom in the home. I hope you have a better experience in the future.

The Perfect Getaway!

The perfect getaway for an anniversary! The cabin is tucked away in the mountains, yet close to everything! We visited Mueller State Park, Lake George, and of course Garden of the Gods. Thank you for sharing your home with us! We Loved It!!!

Secluded Home

  • 5 of 5

As soon as you walk in the door, you get a sense of being "home". The cabin is comfortable and has anything and everything you could think of needing - plus more! The cabin is tucked nicely in the mountain, but easy to find and navigate the surrounding area. It is clear to see that the owners cherish their cabin, as it was well taken care of, clean and many extra little touches to make it a great stay. Communicating with Carrie was so easy; she kept the communication open and replied in a timely manner, and we felt that they truly cared for our stay as well - we weren't just another couple staying at their cabin. We traveled to Canon City and road the Royal Gorge Train - as well as walked the bridge (stunningly beautiful), took a tour of the Mollie Kathleen Gold Mine (incredible!) and explored Colorado Spring area. The cabin is a nice central location. We hope to visit again!

There are so many nearby things to see and do; however, we loved spending time with family in this spectacular home the most. We definitely highly recommend & hope to return soon.

A Beautiful Relaxing Get-Away

  • 5 of 5

This house is absolutely stunning! The view is magical, the pictures do not do it justice. Watching the sun go down, star-gaxing from the hot-tub and the front driveway, and watching the sunrise from the front porch are some of the most peaceful experiences. The house was described perfectly, very clean and well stocked. We were able to cook fantastic meals in their gourmet kitchen, it had everything we could need! We spent one full day inside the house and it was so serene just watching the clouds from the living room with the cool breeze flowing through the house- best naps of my life!! The location is ideal for the feeling of seclusion in the middle of the mountains, there are wonderful hikes nearby and all you could need is just about 10 min away! Highly recommend this house, it has it all truly! Thank you Mark and Carrie for a much needed relaxing vacation- we LOVE your home!!

With Gratitude,

Tonya and Brandon

Loved every minute!

  • 5 of 5

We were so blessed to celebrate our 10th anniversary at "The Refuge"! God has blessed Mark and Carrie with a beautiful home to share! The view was fabulous. It was so pretty to see the mountains change color as the day went on. We loved the hot tub, relaxing on the porch, playing games, and cooking up some great meals together! The area is a little off the beaten path, which was great with us! No tourists around and it was so quiet. We felt very safe. We really enjoyed Mueller State Park, it's a very nice park with some great trails. We enjoyed visiting Cripple Creek and Pikes Peak as well. It was a great week to refresh and refocus. Thank you, Mark and Carrie, for sharing your home with us! We would love to come back!!
