This house was perfect for our little family reunion! Views of the water from the front and back, space for all and awesome well stocked kitchen full of any utensil you may need! All of us agreed we would come back to the homestead!

Quiet setting was great and house equipped with all essentials. Downsides were bed mattresses were uncomfortable, bathtub had visible rust, living room furniture well used and visible soiling/wear. Ocean view lovely but beach not visible from house, required short walk slightly uphill then down to see beach/shore line.

Beautiful coastal location, comfortable rooms, plenty of parking, great communication with host. We really enjoyed our time at David’s home on Bailey Island and would absolutely stay here again.

An older home but well kept. Most notable was how well the home was supplied. Nothing was needed except filling the refrigerator. Everything went smoothly and the host was readily available for any questions. They also hooked us up with a great deal on some lobsters for a boil one night. Backyard access to water for sunrises and front yard access for sunsets. How can you beat that! It's a little drive to get off the peninsula if visiting other towns but not ridiculous. We did a few day trips to Camden, Rockland, Fairport, and Saco, with little traffic issues. It was a great stay.

Wonderful stay

The Johnson homestead was so warm and inviting! We enjoyed visiting with Mr. Johnson and his family. They are very nice people. The beach is a short walk behind the house and we enjoyed searching for the perfect shells! The house was very clean and Had really comfortable beds!! We will hopefully be back with our family next year!!

Bailey Island 2023

The house is an older Maine homestead in a perfect location. it has plenty of space with comfortable beds and furniture. The kitchen is well stocked with dishes, pots and pans. We have stayed here before and it is our favorite local property.

Lovely location!

It is definitely an older home, but was comfortable and was very homey. We were brought 4 live lobsters on our first night- only $35 total for the 4!! Wish our stay could have been longer. Thank you, David and Doreen!

Tip of Bailey Island, a lovely spot.

Our family had a lovely time here. There is water access in front of the house (across the road) and behind the house (across the yard and down a hill), and lovely views of the cove from the living room. Plenty of lawn to set up croquet and badminton, and a screened in back porch for meals. 4 minute walk to the beach at Lands End. This is a family home and as such is not fancy but we found it very comfortable and perfect for a base for adventures as well as relaxing on a rainy morning. Well supplied kitchen, towels, and a grill!

Lovely stay at the Johnson homestead

This property is a family home located almost at the end of Baileys island. The spirit of the home is warmth and heritage with love. The owners are responsive and helpful. As described there is seaview in front and back. Close to all things on Bailey and Orrs island. We had a wonderful view of the Northern lights!! Automatic generator for those gale type nights. Comfortable and well cared for home. A great place to come back to after a day of wandering.

Great Family Get Away

The Johnson Homestead is a great place to stay and enjoy the beauty of Maine. My parents have rented the property for our family vacation for the past two years (two weeks in 2010 and one in 2011). The home is far more spacious than you would guess when viewing the property. Each of the bedrooms is decent size and can accomodate a pack and play (or two). All of the comforts of home are provided including dishes, linens, cookware, games, laundry. The close proximity to the beach is a life saver, no packing the car with all the goodys the children 'need' for a day at the beach. Just walk down to the beach and walk home for lunch and nap. The Bailey Islad area is beautiful and not far from Brunswick & Bath, two cool little cities.

Great week on Bailey Island

We had a great stay with extended family. The house is much larger than it looks and the bedrooms are all a pretty good size. There were 7 of us and we had plenty of room. The only issue i had was it was a bit warm for me not having a/c, but we knew that when we booked. They do have many fans in the house and that helped a lot. This was our first time staying on Bailey Island and we loved it. The owner of the house lives next door and his sister lives on the other side and they, along with everyone else we met on the island, were so nice. The house is convenient to walk down to the lands end gift shop and we also walked to the giant stairs. Be prepared if you stay on the island, everything else is a bit of a trip. I didnt mind it one bit, but some people might find that difficult. But its a beautiful place to visit and I think we will be back.

Lodging, owners and property manager were wonderful

The lodging was every thing we expected and more. The owners & property manager were delightful. My only complaint was with VRBO who thinks we should know their policies and procedures. I think sending out Check In information only 72 hours before arrival is not enough time. Plus I did not look for it at 72 hours so I missed the email and got my information even later. I panicked when I did get it because I thought we had a multiple vehicles parking issue and it was not clear to me how to contact someone at that late date (within 24 hours of arrival.) I think VRBO should send out check in information sooner so we have time to notify all parties involved since we were coming from different directions and the contact person should be a telephone number and not an email. I had other questions post payment of rental and it was not clear on how to talk to a live person. This created last minute and unnecessary anxiety. Once communication was clear all issues were resolved. Our stay was wonderful.

Thank you for your review. We are so sorry it was not at the highest standards. We expect that all rentals should be at 5 star, cleanliness has always been our highest priority. The house has been recently renovated with new floors, interior painting, new washer and dryer, TVs, refrigerator. coffee makers, heating, and AC. If there is something amiss it will certainly be addressed immediately.
