All I can say is WOW - just WOW. Amazing place for our family weekend. Short drive to Santa Barbara, and a dip in the pool when you get back. And the yard is so relaxing and peaceful.
Wonderful well kept home in a great location for our girls trip. Close to activities and restaurants that were on our to do list. The gardens were extensive and gave the home both beauty and privacy. We enjoyed the pool and hot tub as well. Very quiet neighborhood. Close to the 101. Our hosts were delightful and excellent communicators! Highly recommend.
This house is like a delightful retreat not far outside of Santa Barbara! The house is very nice and cozy, it has everything you need and is super clean, and the gardens are spectacular! Now let’s talk about the backyard pool area…it’s just amazing! We felt like we were tucked away in a little paradise! The owners are quick to respond to questions, and so nice and helpful. We would most definitely stay here again!
The pool and hot tub were perfect for relaxing and play. Big screen TV kept the teens entertained with movies and shows. Santa Claus beach is nearby and had lots of fun waves. East Beach in Santa Barbara was also a short drive away. Kitchen worked well for cooking and there is a nice dining room table as well.
We so enjoyed our stay, the home, outdoor gardens, deck and pool were a perfect venue for the long weekend. We were in town to visit family and attend a graduation. The property is lovingly mai tained and host and hostess great!
The house was comfortable, beautiful, and well-supplied. The owners were friendly and accommodating, letting us check in early on the 4th of July. The garden was spectacular, the deck inviting and spacious. Everyone, from age 10 to 78, thoroughly enjoyed the stay.
This home was conveniently located to SantaBarbara, beaches, restaurants and more. The home was comfortable the owners who stayed in a separate dwelling on the property were warm and friendly. There are multiple outdoor seating areas and a lovely pool. If you are looking for a quiet retreat this is a great choice.
This property is absolutely amazing! Beautiful, well kept, perfect location that is quiet but close to everything. The yard is breathtaking and the pool and deck are spectacular for relaxing and for family fun. The hosts are wonderful--kind, helpful and so inviting. We hope to return again and again!
My family and I stayed at Joan and Ed's beautiful home for 3 nights. The location was perfect and the pictures of the house don't do it justice! The house had everything we needed and more and the backyard was absolutely wonderful.
We have already talked about our next stay! Book this home, you won't be disappointed!

Thx so much Amanda! And we’d love to have you back!
Spent approximately a week here at Ed & Joan's property and it was great. They were attentive and responsive to our requests, and even picked plums from their plum tree and gave us a gallon bag's worth - thanks!
The home is on a quiet residential street a couple streets off the freeway and has a really good setup with bedroom/bathroom mix. Kitchen is well-stocked, good-sized fridge, 5-burner stove and solid oven. 2 large living room/family room setups and solid wifi throughout the house. The pool was a huge hit along with the fire pit. Highly recommended! Thanks again Ed & Joan for sharing your house; have a great rest of your summer.

We’re sorry you got the idea we were 2 blocks from the beach. We stated we were 2 miles from Carpinteria but not two blocks from the beach. We are however, as the crow flys, about 1/2 mile from the beach. Driving, about a mile.
The home and property were just as described in the VRBO post. Plenty of outdoor space to chill and relax. Cute beach area at the far end of pool and deck. We were 5 (grandma, and family of four.) Comfortable indoor spaces. Bedrooms were comfortable with great bedding. Owners were nearby and checked in to see we had what we needed. Joan and Ed were lovely and their home was filled with love. We explored nearby beaches and the laid back Carpinteria beach town. Coming from Los Angeles we were thrilled and amazed at the lack of crowds. Lots of people enjoying the area and the beaches, but never a problem finding parking or having to wait in long lines.
We had an absolutely wonderful last-minute getaway over Memorial Day weekend at this beautiful home with my son, daughter-in-law, and grandson. From the moment we arrived, it felt like a true home away from home. The house is incredibly spacious and quiet, perfect for relaxing and spending quality family time.Joan, the host, was amazing—warm, welcoming, and incredibly thoughtful. She made sure we had all her contact info in case we needed anything, and I genuinely enjoyed our conversations throughout the stay. The home was fully stocked with plenty of towels for both the pool and showers, and the kitchen had everything we needed to cook and enjoy meals together. The furniture was cozy and comfortable, making every space feel inviting. If you need time to unwind—like we did—there’s plenty of seating inside and out to read a book, play games with the family, or cook out on the grill. The master bedroom opens right onto the patio, just steps from the pool—such a peaceful and private setup. The yard is an absolute oasis—lush, serene, and beautifully maintained. So much better than being cooped up in a hotel room. And let me just say: the pictures do not do this home justice. It’s even more beautiful in person, with whimsical decor that adds charm without being overdone.Location-wise, it's ideal—just a few miles from Santa Barbara and about an hour from the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library. We would absolutely stay here again and highly recommend it to anyone.
We so enjoyed our stay at this beautiful home. Every bit of it cared for with love. Lush gardens in front and back nestle the home in a private setting. Loved hearing only birds in the morning, as we slept with open windows. So peaceful. The pool was perfectly heated, and we spent much time there. There are several fountains adding to the serenity of the place. We enjoyed using the barbecue and fire pit, as there are several outdoor seating areas to gather.
Each room is lovely and comfortable with lots of hooks to hang items. The showers were fantastic with great water pressure! Even the windows and sliding glass doors were top notch. Very high quality.
We had so much room for the four of us.
Joan and Ed are lovely people. We invited them over for coffee before we left the last day and had a wonderful visit. They had offered to open the home early for us and allow a later departure, making every effort to make our stay pleasant. She even had fresh flowers and oranges for us. Her kitchen is wonderful! We felt right at home and did not want to leave. I can’t recommend this home enough. It really is as lovely as the photos.

Dangerous pool, Health Hazard & Unfair treatment-Stay Away!
Review: Dangerous Pool, Health Hazard, and Unfair Treatment – Stay Away! Our stay at this property became a complete nightmare due to a serious health hazard. The pool is filled with exposed fiberglass. After swimming, everyone in our group—including kids—ended up with itching, redness, and a painful splinter-like sensation all over our bodies. We later found visible fiberglass stuck to our skin, clothes, swimsuits, towels, and even pajamas. We had to throw away many of these items, and we have photos clearly showing the damage. The owner’s response was completely unacceptable. They told us this has never happened and made us feel like we were liars even argued with us as we departed. You can literally see the fiberglass all over the pool and Jacuzzi floor. The pool is unsafe and should not be used by anyone until it’s fully repaired. To make it worse, the owner is now trying to avoid responsibility by saying we brought extra kids. We told them when that came to meet us we had a few more children because I accidentally miscounted when booking. They saw our group, told us it was fine, and chose not to charge us extra or raise any issues at the time. It is completely unfair for them to now use that as an excuse to avoid refunding us and fixing the problem. This was supposed to be a fun family trip, but it turned into a stressful and unsafe situation. I hope Vrbo investigates
We stayed for our daughter's beach wedding in Carpintaria. The house gave great access to downtown Carpintaria and quick access to Santa Barbara. The house was well appointed and the back decks were a great place to hang out in comfort. There is a park at exit 90 (close to house) that provides good access to a very nice beach and if you like horses, you can check out the polo club which is also walking distance. Would stay there again if in the area.
We have had the most wonderful stay in Santa Barbara. Ed and Joan could not have been more accommodating, in touch, kind etc. The house is superbly equipped, clean, comfortable and the knock out for us was the pool, our 3 children adored it. As many reviews say, the photos don’t do it justice. Do not hesitate to book this, it is brilliant. Also, so so well located, wonderful beaches, restaurants, City. Enjoy!
A sweet surprise of happy birthday banner and treats awaited me on my arrival. Very relaxing weekend, great pool, very clean home in lovely neighborhood
From the moment Ed picked us up (added bonus) he and his wife Joan could not have been more gracious.
The home and the property were immaculate. In fact the photos don’t do it justice.
The gardens, yard and pool had so many vantage points for maximum enjoyment.
This place lacks nothing and the ambiance will have you wanting to come back.
What a pleasure.
This home was perfect for our family of 4! The neighborhood is nice, home is clean, the beds are comfy, the grounds are truly something out of a magazine, and the location is perfect! We particularly loved the little beach town of Carpenteria - such a fun place, with cute stores and local restaurants. Santa Barbara is a quick 10 minute drive north, and Los Angeles is about 1.5 hours south (depending on traffic). The hosts are very easy to communicate with, and take obvious pride in their home. We hope to come back soon!
Ed and Joan a are warm engaging couple that had us feel at home. We look forward to returning.

About the host
Hosted by ed and/or joan
We are a semi-retired couple who travel quite a bit. When in town and our home is rented, we may stay in the cottage that is also on the 1/2 acre property. However, it is in the front part of the property, while the pool, spa, bar-b-que and deck are in the back part of the lot and well secluded with all the privacy our guests desire. In fact, we have often gone an entire week without seeing-or being seen-by our guests, since when we are in Santa Barbara, we are usually out and about from early morning till night time-working or playing.
An explanation on city taxes. Santa Barbara charges a mandatory 12% bed tax. In addition, they have now required a 2% Tourism Business Tax for all who rent rooms/homes. We have listed that in the charges as a 14% tax. Joan
Why they chose this property
Our neighborhood is very desirable for its quiet rural atmosphere and beautiful mountain views. Yet it is a short drive to many beaches, and Santa Barbara.
