About the property

House, 6 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 4.5+ Baths, (Sleeps 11-12)

This is the perfect vacation home for families. Located on 2 1/2 acres in historic Kittery Point, Maine, our property sits right on beautiful Sea. Point Beach. Enjoy spectacular ocean views of Maine's rugged coastline from virtually every room in the house. It features two master bedroom suites, sleeps 12 comfortably and has many entertaining and relaxing areas. The large screened porch is a perfect place to enjoy a meal, read, or snooze. Relax or sunbathe on the ocean front deck. Your family will love the open kitchen, dining room, and living room. All are generous spaces with beautiful views of the ocean and surrounding property. On clear days, you can see all the way out to the beautiful Isles of Shoals. There is a bonus room with a pull-out sofa, full bathroom and large screen television.

We built our home six years ago as a place to entertain our family and friends. It features the privacy and beauty of a remote location with easy accessibility to everything you need from the 'real world.' We are 10 minutes from historic Portsmouth, New Hampshire's historic harbor, unique restaurants, and shops. We're only 15 minutes from one of the largest retail outlet malls in the country, and a short, scenic drive from York, Maine, another not-to-be-missed location with its famous Long Sands Beach, Nubble Lighthouse, Amusement Park, and Petting Zoo. If you only want to relax, you never need to leave our property! You are only steps from Sea Point Beach with its constantly changing tides. Every walk on the beach is a new experience. Every time you look out the window, you will see a different coastline as the tides come and go.

Our home in Kittery Point is uniquely situated at the convergence of beautiful salt marshes, cool forests, and the ever-changing Atlantic seacoast. Whether you prefer to hike, kayak, swim, or just look out the window, you will not find a more beautiful location for your next vacation.

About Nate Hubbard

Nate and Stephanie were both born in Boston and spent portions of their summers on the Maine and New Hampshire seacoasts. They have a long family history that connects them to the area and they continue to spend as much time as possible there with their three teenage daughters.

Nate Hubbard purchased this house in 2004

Why Nate Hubbard chose Kittery

This beautiful land has been in our family for generations. Our family has a long history both in Kittery and out on the historic Isles of Shoals. (The islands can be seen from our property.) We built our home here because we needed a larger space to entertain our large family and widening circle of east coast friends and because we cannot imagine a more beautiful place to spend our vacation time.

What makes this house unique

We love our home because it has so many different, and flexible, spaces. Our teenage daughters like to entertain their friends in the Bonus Room. They can enjoy a movie, play games, or just have a private chat with their friends. . Our screened porch has double-paned glass doors separating it from the house. No matter what is going on in the house, the screened porch offers a peaceful place for a quiet conversation, The upstairs guest room has an adjoining door to a single bedroom. Doors can be locked or unlocked so as to create a mini suite for a family traveling with a young child. The ping pong table and foosball tables are in the basement which allows for fun competition without disturbing the rest of the house.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We couldn't have spent a better week anywhere in the State of Maine than at 10 Thaxter Lane! I consider myself a bit of a connoisseur about everything Maine, having been a visitor for over 50 years. Thus, I feel very confident that your elegant, yet comfortable, beach front home, is unsurpassed for a family vacation. Spectacular views of the ocean and coastline, the pastoral setting and all the details and comforts you provided were simply wonderful. Listening to the sound of the waves every night and letting the warm breezes in all the windows was magical.

I admit that I've had a hard time adjusting to mornings without coffee on your screened porch and strolls down to the beach for a dip (the ocean was even warm!!). Your warm welcome of a special gift basket and card was most appreciated. One of my favorite memories: listening to the birds and squirrels chattering in the big, beautiful chestnut tree on the path to the beach. Loved every minute!

Thank you for your sharing your family home!

Everyone loved it!

  • 5 of 5

We had the pleasure of staying in this house at the beginning of September: 10 people ranging from 15 to their 50’s. Our stay was fabulous and, if fact, if we can coordinate everyone, we would try to repeat next year.

The house itself is beautiful, welcoming and very comfortable. The common rooms are wonderful: Ocean views as you cook, eat, or just talk in the kitchen, in the dining room and main living room (and, also, ocean views from the side verandah which was a favorite for many of us). You can tell this house has been built by owners who wanted to appreciate the environment and get maximum enjoyment from the outside while inside with family and friends. It’s also well designed so that there is plenty of space if anyone wants some quiet time.

(We did, on arrival, meet the owner, Nate, who happened to be in Maine and also the person who looks after the house, Peter. Both were extremly friendly, helpful, and easy to relate to. We saw Peter again, only on departure, and, again, he was realy pleasant and friendly.)

All the bedrooms were nice, those facing the ocean are, of course, very, very nice. In these, you have the joy of hearing the waves as you fall asleep if you so wish, or closing the doors to good insulation (we chose to hear the waves :).

Of course, the house’s immediate surroundings, with Sea Point Beach steps away, was great! We had brought boogie boards and skim boards or just relaxed on the beach. We also had our own bikes and explored some of the nearby region (since the roads can be narrow, some of us stayed in the immediate region but others ventured by bike up to Old Orchard and to Portsmouth). We had never been to the most southern part of Maine and the area was a wonderful surprise. It’s charming. We did one small hike but, with more time, there were lots of others we would have done. All of us thought that there were other activities we would have loved to do…

So, as mentioned, if we can coordinate a repeat visit… we will!

One of our best family vacations!

  • 5 of 5

Our vacation in Kittery Point, Maine was one of our best ever! The house exceeded our expectations in every way. We enjoyed family time in the spacious gathering area on the first floor, and there were plenty of quiet times in the expansive bedroom areas. The amenities and features in the house were everything we expected and more. The surroundings are absolutely beautiful, and there are many opportunities to enjoy the contiguous areas .... Kittery, Portsmouth, Ugunquit. If you don't feel like driving anywhere, just enjoy the beautiful home, surrounding wooded areas, ocean and take some walks around the immediate area. We hope to return for another vacation soon!

Family Vacation

  • 3 of 5

We rented this lovely home with my family for a week in 2011. We had 10 adults and 5 young children. We had a great week on the beach, shopping and just relaxing. We enjoyed ourselves however the property manager made us feel uncomfortable. He was always lurking around and asking why we had so many cars in the driveway, complained we had to much trash and didn't want to give us our security back stating that they had to pay the cleaners extra. We paid a cleaning fee and we left that house very clean. There was no need to withhold our security deposit. When booking with the owner he was made aware that there would be 10 adults, 5 young children sleeping there and that we planned a family cookout with other family members on an afternoon. Knowing that you should expect to have multiple bags of trash and extra cars during the day. We had to get our attorney involved to finally get our security deposit back. We own a large vacation home on a lake and we treated this home as it were our own. The house is beautiful but the property manager and owner are difficult and unrealistic when it comes to renting a large vacation property! Good luck!

Second time here - You will not be disappointed!

  • 5 of 5

I really cannot put into words how special and wonderful this property is. My 4 year old now calls this "the ocean house" and asks monthly about if and when we get to return. The master suite downstairs is beautifully decorated and has a private entrance to the expansive ocean side deck. My family (8 adults and 4 kids) often dream about this house and wish to return year after year. Sometimes there will be a break in conversation and one will just say "Ahhh, Kittery". And we will all smile and relax remembering that VIEW! There is a perfect little walking trail around the point that has one of the most beautiful views of the ocean. This house is spacious and perfect for socializing either around the big dinning room table, expansive kitchen island, nicely furnished screen porch or the DECK! You never know when booking a house online if it will be as good as the reviews or pictures but let me assure you that this property is what Maine coastal dream vacations are made of. Thank you to the owners for sharing your house with the rest of us!

Dream House for Dream Vacation

  • 5 of 5

This beautifully furnished, spacious, well-stocked, well-equipped house, ideally situated on a quiet cove with an adjacent sand beach is a marvelous place for a large group. Our group consisted of a dozen people, 10 adults and 2 small children. The bedroom and bathroom arrangements assured a good degree of privacy when wanted and the communal spaces provided ample room for us all to be together. Everything about this house exceeded our expectations. The kitchen and pantry are a cook's paradise. The landscaping is lovely.

Kittery Point is a great starting place for exploring the Southern Maine and New Hampshire Coasts. It is not crowded and minimally touristy. The house itself is pretty secluded on an unmarked private road, yet it is near restaurants, shops, and yes, the famed Kittery Outlet stores, if shopping is on your agenda. The closest major town is Portsmouth, NH, a very comfortable and interesting place.

Nate and Peter were very accommodating of our needs. We needed a high chair and crib for our grandson and they were bought immediately upon our request. Peter and the gardening crew made sure that everything was in tip-top shape all week long. A side note, as we had small children in our party, doing laundry often was a necessity and the washer and dryer were amazing appliances. In fact, all of the appliances were top of the line.

I could go on and on, but I think you can get the picture. We all loved this place and recommend it without reservation.

Super Great House

  • 5 of 5

Our annual family get-together pointed us to southern Maine. Our family of 10 (6 adults and 4 children from 3 to 14 years) stayed at 10 Thaxter Lane and loved every minute. The house was even better than the descriptions. The views and beach access were a dream come true. The house is very spacious and comfortable, clean and elegant. S'mores around the firepit was a plus, as was collecting sea glass and shells on the very secluded beach. The well stocked kitchen and table seating 10 made for memorable family meals. Pingpong action and family tournament were fun, as was the foosball game. Proximity to the Rachael Carson Preserve was a great place for the runners in the family. There is much to do in the area, as other reviews suggest. We took in sailing from Perkins Cove, Star Island on Isle of Shoals, Kennebunkport, Fort McClary, Ft. Constitution in NH, Marginal Way walk in Ogunquit, Chauncy Creek Lobster restaurant, and the great specialty grocery shops in town.

We've stayed in rental houses the last week of June for about 10 years and this house ranks #1. Would give it 6 stars, if I could.
