About the property

Cabin, 2 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 1 Bath, (sleeps 8)

Country Cordwood is a very unique vacation cabin nestled in the mountains of East Tennessee. Close to the Appalachian trail, ski resorts, Bristol Motor Speedway and situated on a blue ribbon trout stream, it is a relaxing location away from the stresses of everyday life. It is minutes from Watauga lake, a large TVA managed recreation lake known for it's clean water, good fishing, swimming and boating.

Easy access to the Tri Cities of Johnson City, Kingsport and Bristol as well as Boone NC and Abingdon VA. Butler is a rural community in the history rich upper East Tennessee region. Less than an hour from Interstates 26 and 81, it is accessible by good roads year round.

The owners live on the property and maintain a small mountain farm with a wide variety of semi-exotic animals and livestock.

About Karen Visser

Your hosts have raised nine children on the adjoining property. We are a homeschooling family and operate a family manufacturing business, here.

Karen Visser purchased this cabin in 2004

Why Karen Visser chose Butler

This cabin was built entirely by our four sons, with Dad's oversight, as a homeschool project. Working every Saturday, from daylight until dark, for nearly three years, was a tremendous family experience and educational opportunity. The result is a handcrafted cabin with unique charm.

What makes this cabin unique

Nights around the fire ring, picnics and cookouts, peace and solitude. Lots of recreational opportunities, hiking, biking and boating.

Cabin was BEAUTIFUL!!

  • 5 of 5

The cabin was peaceful with a beautiful view! The owners went above and beyond to make sure we were comfortable. Even sent our newlywed daughter and husband out for lunch as a gift from them! I looking forward to staying with them again!

Great handcrafted cabin

  • 4 of 5

The cabin is very comfortable and clean. Only giving 4 stars because it is not perfection. The staircase is a little difficult because of the tread height. Plumbing is great. Privacy is very good. Layout is very nice. Bedrooms are spacious but single bath is on the main floor. I wish I could give it 5 stars because it is so nice, but has those couple minor inconveniences. I would absolutely stay here again!
