About the property

Cabin, 2 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 1 Bath, (sleeps 8)

Country Cordwood is a very unique vacation cabin nestled in the mountains of East Tennessee. Close to the Appalachian trail, ski resorts, Bristol Motor Speedway and situated on a blue ribbon trout stream, it is a relaxing location away from the stresses of everyday life. It is minutes from Watauga lake, a large TVA managed recreation lake known for it's clean water, good fishing, swimming and boating.

Easy access to the Tri Cities of Johnson City, Kingsport and Bristol as well as Boone NC and Abingdon VA. Butler is a rural community in the history rich upper East Tennessee region. Less than an hour from Interstates 26 and 81, it is accessible by good roads year round.

The owners live on the property and maintain a small mountain farm with a wide variety of semi-exotic animals and livestock.

About Karen Visser

Your hosts have raised nine children on the adjoining property. We are a homeschooling family and operate a family manufacturing business, here.

Karen Visser purchased this cabin in 2004

Why Karen Visser chose Butler

This cabin was built entirely by our four sons, with Dad's oversight, as a homeschool project. Working every Saturday, from daylight until dark, for nearly three years, was a tremendous family experience and educational opportunity. The result is a handcrafted cabin with unique charm.

What makes this cabin unique

Nights around the fire ring, picnics and cookouts, peace and solitude. Lots of recreational opportunities, hiking, biking and boating.

Like others have said in previous reviews, a labor of love built by the family. Has everything you need, would not hesitate to stay again.

Home Away From Home

  • 5 of 5

Loved our stay at the cabin, the owners were very inviting and made sure we had everything we needed; and then some. The cabin itself was cozy, and enough room for more than a few people. Will definitely consider this property again in any future trips.

simply perfect

  • 5 of 5

The owner Karen was super nice. The cabin wA just what we expected and more. The story behind it made ya fall in love with it even more. It was literally handmade by the owner & his sons.... there is a book showing you pictures of the process. It’s 2 stories, / full beds & a pull out couch upstairs. A single pull pit couch downstairs a long with a re liner and leather couch. They have games, movies & WiFi, outside there is a fire pit, volleyball net and other things to do. We stayed out most the time exploring the mountains & snow. Our favorite was Beech Mountain, a out 1hr away but the views are so pretty didn’t feel like it was that far and it’s only that far bc your going up and down and around the mountains. There is tubing, skiing, boarding & ice skating there. They have a little village like set up, absolutely beautiful. Sugar mountain was nice but we liked Beech better. Back to the cabin...: there was everything you needed....the only thing is if your older the stairs maybe a little challenging bc they’re steep but they have washer, dryer, towels, dishes... everything. I think we went side by the coldest time of the year but we’re already talking about returning. The ages ranged from 9-70 and we all loved it!!! Beauty duo mountain experience. Thank you Karen for your hospitality.
