Overview

About the property

House, 5 Bedrooms, 6 Baths, (Sleeps 12)

This is where your ideal Tahoe vacation happens. You can cook anything you can imagine in our fully equipped kitchen, complete with a commercial stove. Create a masterpiece mountain breakfast, simmer a savory boeuf bourginon in a Dutch oven, sauté vegetables on the stove’s powerful burners…

Celebrate life with friends and family at the single slab mahogany dining table, then relax in the Great Room in front of the hearth. When it’s time to turn in, you’ll find the bedrooms equally richly appointed with top-quality linens and comforters.

Not a chef? You have a choice of fine restaurants in Tahoe City about a half hour’s drive away, or closer resort dining, depending on the season.

Don’t worry about those calories; there’s a well-equipped exercise room downstairs, or take to the nearby trails for a brisk hike. Depending on the season, you can hop on a mountain bike or ski nearby Homewood Ski Resort. Afterward, relax those muscles in a conveniently located sauna.

Luxuriate in the home’s fine attention to detail. Custom wrought iron, woodwork, hand-carved moldings, antique light fixtures, rough hewn log trusses and other hand-crafted details bring you back to an age where life was slower, focused on leisure time with friends in sumptuous surroundings.

To facilitate longer stays, a washer and dryer are at your disposal.

Settle in, kick up your feet, listen to the bird songs and get away from it all… or stay in touch with the world via our high speed wireless internet. The home has good cell phone reception for most carriers, but wouldn't you rather turn off your phone and escape to serenity?

Book now! Your dream Tahoe retreat awaits!

About Janet and Maclyn Morris

I'm a master builder who loves the style of the Ahwahnee dining room. So I decided to build this home as a tribute to the age when people made the arduous trip to Yosemite and bask in a fantastic setting. I'm also an avid cook, so when I build a home the kitchen is top notch and up to any challenge I can imagine.

Janet and Maclyn Morris purchased this house in 2001

Why Janet and Maclyn Morris chose Lake Tahoe West Shore CA

Location, location, location. The home rests on a quiet street within easy reach of Homewood Ski Resort, the fine dining restaurants (and rustic pubs) of Tahoe City, the incomparable crystalline waters of Lake Tahoe, and miles of hiking trails beckoning you to explore the forests (preferably with a good GPS unit).

What makes this house unique

There's really no place like home, especially when it combines all the modern amenities with the timeless elegance of rustic craftsmanship. The architecture soars, light washes through the house, details entice, and the kitchen sizzles. Just look at the photographs and you'll see what a special place awaits!

Gorgeous property.

This was the perfect place for 3 small families. It is well thought out and had everything we needed. Made us feel like we were home. We definitely are going to plan more trips to Tahoe just to stay here.

this house is an art work

Very clean and unbelievable wood structure. Lots of amenities inside the house. We loved cooking at the industrial stove and eat/chat at the big wood dining table.

Awesome cabin!

  • 5 of 5

The cabin is really beautiful. We loved all the decorations. The guest house is really nice, it has its own bathroom with bathtub and a tiny kitchen. Jan and Morris are very nice, they helped us a lot. My friend left a knee protector in the cabin, they also shipped it to us. Overall it was an awesome experience. Don't miss this beautiful cabin!

One of Kind Beauty and Comfort

  • 5 of 5

My family and friends having been renting homes in the Homewood / Chambers / Tahoma area for the last 30 summers and when we came across this house on VRBO three years ago we booked it. Halfway through our vacation, we booked it for the following year and this past July we spent our third summer at Knobcone. Know what's better than staying in this house? Staying in it year after year after year!

It is without question one of the most well designed homes in the area, and you realize the moment you push open the sturdy front door and enter the foyer that this isn't a cabin, but a one-of-a-kind chalet hidden among the trees of Tahoe. The house is furnished with top-shelf appliances, paintings you won't find anywhere else, state-of-the-art lighting and even top notch exercise equipment.

Knobcone's layout is just perfect for a large gathering, as it allows for games, exercising and TV watching on the lower level, while you can be entertaining, reading, cooking and dining on the main level. The Great Room on the main level with its rustic wooden pillars, extended cathedral ceiling, and oversized fireplace reminds all visitors of the Ahwahnee Hotel in Yosemite. It is a room of great serenity and one where you could spend hours just looking out the floor to ceiling windows.

The location of the house is perfect as well. The beach is a 10 minute walk. Tahoma Market is a 15 minute walk and Homewood is approximately a 20 minute walk. And if you're not into walking, the house is equipped with 5 top notch bikes and helmets

This is the perfect house for a family, a family reunion, a gathering of friends, or even a small retreat.

The only thing wrong with this rental is that the pictures don't do it justice - and - In case you're wondering, Yes, we've already booked for 2013.

Huge, Elegant, Charming, and Absolutely AMAZING! State of the Art Home with Incredible Architecture

  • 5 of 5

I will honestly say, it was a privilege to have stayed at this home with my family. This home is everything we were expecting and more. Around every corner was an architectural surprise. There was much thought in the design of this home. I can't even remember how many rooms this home had or the amount of sleeping accommodations. It even had a separate XL Guest Suite. The craftsmanship behind the wood work throughout the entire home is timeless. I was constantly reminded of the architecture of The Walt Disney Grand California Hotel. The wood work and the interior design, again are both craftsman inspired with the highest caliber of construction. Also the location, in my opinion, does not get any better. The home is in West Shore which to popular opinion is The Best Shore. If you are looking for a clean wholesome family experience, WITHOUT the hustle and bustle of the South and North Shore, this is it! Hopefully, we will continue to reserve this home in the future. This home has fulfilled all our family's needs.

The listing description is accurate, but words cannot describe the beauty of this home.

The listing photos did accurately reflect the rental's appearance and amenities. But again, photos can not describe our amazement throughout the home.

Property was cleaned to perfection and well maintained. We were surprised that this home was well stocked with linens, towels and all other necessary amenities for our stay.

The owner, who was represented by an professional assistant I believe, was incredibly courteous and very knowledgable about the home. She was very helpful and was incredibly accommodating.

As you may know from reading our review, we would not only recommend this property, but encourage anyone who is interested to give this beautiful home a try.

Nearby activities and attractions are limitless. The West Shore has The Best Amenities! The big four we chose to do were Dining at Sunnyside Grill on the Water ( Battered Fish Taco's INSANE ) - (Do Not go to Jakes), BEACH at Meek's Bay, the only beach in Tahoe that is white sand and clear with no rocks in water. CRAWFISH, fun family fun of a pier in Pine State Park and Shopping in Truckee Shops.

This is my family's review, we were treated like family and really truly appreciate the experience. Literally one of the best family trips we have ever taken. Our kids were 2 and 3 years old and continue to talk about their experience! Thank you folks!

Thankfully,

Greg and Averi
