Beach lover. Bali lover. 40-year resident of Santa Cruz and 4-time visitor to Bali. I enjoy creating environments. Living at the beach has been a lifelong dream of mine. Bali-by-the-Beach is a gift to be treasured...and offered. With gratitude, Joan
Joan Levine purchased this house in 1997
I've always wanted to live in a beach house. When I saw this home, I fell in love with it and bought it on the spot. What I enjoy: walking on the beach, walking to the famous Cement Ship at the Seacliff State Beach, walking to the quaint village of Aptos. I like the sweet and small Visitors Center, also located in Seacliff State Park. You just walk right to it! I love the food at the Pixie Deli around the corner. They make it easy to take a picnic to the beach. There's nothing like lying on a beach blanket on the warm sand. I read my book—for about 10 minutes. And then...I feel relaxed and dreamy, imagination in free rein. The waves, the birds, the breeze. I'm in a deeply restful place, and when I return I feel renewed, refreshed, and happy. And it all happens without getting into a car. Just a minute's walk from the house and there it is. My joy.
At Bali-by-the-Beach, I enjoy peace of mind and serenity. So much so that sometimes it is hard to leave! I'm so entranced by the view that it's just as good to see the view as it is to be in the view (i.e. on the beach). I feel in harmony with existence here.
My wish is the same for you.
Bali on the Beach was the perfect seaside place to celebrate our family thanksgiving, and the house had everything we could have asked for. Joan is a fabulous host who has thought of almost everything! BOTB is tastefully decorated and outfitted for comfort and serenity. The location was close to everything we wanted to do, including beach, hiking, restaurants, and beautiful sunsets. I would recommend this to my friends. Thanks Joan!
Response from you: Thank you for your kind words, Erik. Having you as my guests was completely my pleasure. It makes me happy that you enjoyed your time at Bali by the Beach. I love it! Please come again and yes, please recommend to your friends. Thanks, Joan
Cute little house within walking distance to the beach. Cafe Rio and the Pixie Deli have great food and (adult beverages) just a few steps from Bali by the Beach. Joan provided info on restaurants and activites available in the area and we hope to return and give some of those recommendations a try. Great place and would highly recommend.
I recently spent a week in Rio Del Mar at Joan's house and we were so happy with our stay. The view was actually better than advertised. The balcony was divine - what a spot for coffee in the morning and margaritas in the evening! The furnishing were a delight - the Balinese theme was carried throughout, and we appreciated the attention to detail. Cooking is my hobby - and her kitchen was so well equipped! Handmade pottery galore - a real treat!
Everything you need for the beach is available in the garage (we packed to much!) The location was a quarter block from the beach and restaurants. We enjoyed both Cafe Rio and Pixie's Deli. We loved every minute of it, and plan on returning! I recommend you visit - just don't take my dates!
Bali by the Beach, has an amazing view of Rio Del Mar beach and is less than 1/2 a block to the sand itself. The home was bigger than we expected and we found ourselves spending more time there than we planned on because there was no reason to leave. The decor, is full of artifacts from Bali which gives it a tropical vibe even during the overcast mornings. There is a cute little sandwich shop called Pixies Paradise down the street and a great gourmet market that is a 2 minute drive away. If you are planning a trip to Rio Del Mar, this is a good spot to stay
We really enjoyed our stay. Great location, easy to find and quiet! The house was great, couldn't have asked for more. Joan was great!
This was a wonderful experience in every respect. Joan is a responsive, pleasant and thoughtful host. Our welcome was above and beyond, and truly made our day. Her home is so beautiful and it makes us want to hear stories about her trips to Bali! Everything was comfortable and clean and the floorplan is perfect for two couples. The beach was a short block away and we spent a lot of time taking walks. We can't wait to return to Bali by the Beach!
Absolutely beautiful home and location! We truly enjoyed our stay. Could have used a "real"coffee maker instead of the drip. Also, a nice gas grill instead of the tiny hibatchi would be a plus. Beds were extremely comfortable and we had no problem falling asleep. The waves are beautiful music to fall asleep to. Joan is a very inviting host and very easy to work with. Thank you.
