About The Owner

My name is Kimberly. As you can tell from the photo I love dogs, nature and the outdoors.

The Owner purchased this chalet in 2005

Why The Owner chose Hoodsport

Lake Cushman is a well kept secret. Away from the hustle & bustle of daily life. It offers so many different and diverse activities. From boating to hiking, diving to oyster digging. The picturesque Olympic National Forest as your backdrop. I have been camping in this location since my children were small and decided to invest in a home so I could share the same peaceful beauty, fun experiences and fond memories that I have of this area with other friends, family and guests.

What makes this chalet unique

You can enjoy boating, fishing, skiing, tubing, kayaking, jet skiing, swimming, sunbathing, golfing and tennis. The Olympics offer over 20 hiking trails from the leisurely to the more strenuous. One of the best hikes is Mt. Elinor once you reach the summit you are enchanted with the view and the family of mountain goats. The town of Hoodsport offers scuba diving, calming, oyster digging, crabbing, several restaurants, shopping and a winery. If you still have any get up and go after a day of sun & fun the Lucky Dog Casino offers a little nightlife.

There is a lovely creek that runs adjcent to the deck making a quaint park like setting. Fall asleep to the lullably of a babbling stream. You get the best of both worlds the lake by day, creek side for dinner, firepit for s'mores.

Cool house with upgraded appliances but lacks in areas

  • 3 of 5

This is a solid house to rent to enjoy the lake, woods and surrounding bays. The rooms are spacious and decorated like a warm, cozy home. Everything worked properly and having two washers and dryers is wonderful. The dishwasher is quiet enough to run during the night and it won't wake people up. TV's worked nicely, and the wifi was slow but solid.

Here's why I deducted one of the two stars (these issues seem within the full control of the owner)

1. The house was a bit dirty upon arrival - stairs were dusty, the bathrooms were tidy but the toilets and mirrors weren't spotless (meaning that they were merely wiped down). That morning, the owner texted me and stated that the cleaning would be running late. When we arrived at 5pm (1 hour past the 4pm check in) the housekeeper was just finishing up.

2. The house was dark because no one replaces burned out bulbs. We found 5 bulbs burned out and 2 missing. As we had children in the bunk room, we cannibalized the bulbs from the living room, loft and the downstairs bedroom to provide adequate lighting. We informed the owner, but she couldn't replace them until after we checked out.

3. The owner is a bit disorganized. She thought we were checking out a day earlier than our reservation ended.

I took off the second star because of the heat of the house during the day. The blinds don't work in the living room which exposes the full mid-day sun into the kitchen. It quickly gets 80-85 in the house. If you open the doors or windows, there are no screens so the house flies, horse flies and mosquitos arrive. So you have a choice in the summers - stay hot but not bitten, or cool off and kill bugs. You can go downstairs to cool off - but if anyone cannot handle narrow stairs, like in my family, then you get to sweat a bit. Luckily, the night provides cool air, and some of the windows have screens so it's tolerable. I suggest that the owner, install simple screen in the windows and fix the blinds in the kitchen. The owner does supply fans in all the rooms which we used - but they only do so much after the temps rise above 80.

Owner's Response: I’m glad the renters did enjoy their stay at the Lake. Thank you for saying it is a solid place to rent! To address the first issue of the house being dirty- I informed the renters that morning that the housekeepers co-worker called out sick and she would be cleaning two cabins within 5 hours by herself, daunting at best and my cabin is a beast 3 living spaces-so to some dusty stairs and a few spots in the bathroom I applaud my housekeeper, she came through for me and the renters. We strive to give every renter a clean cabin and you can tell me by past 5 star reviews. I’m sorry that 5 lights were burnt out. I was never informed by past renters or my housekeeper that any lights needed to be replaced. I communicated with the renters that I would try and get lights to them but my handyman was on vacation. So I told them to take bulbs from other areas of the house that were not being used. I did double check by a phone call to the cabin and they stated they were fine and they gave the kids flashlight to use in the bunk room and they were having a “camping experience, fun for the kids" The 3rd issue the screen door. Again the renters prior to them apparently tore the screen out of the frame but did not tell me (I’m sure due to taking funds out of their security deposit) and my housekeeper is cleaning the inside and did not notice the screen was gone until the new renters check in. This has been rectified and fixed! 4th issue: I’m not sure what they meant by by narrows stairs down to the rec room, they are up to code and open concept ½ down the stairwell?? I take all reviews seriously and try to improve upon for future renters. I take great pride in my 5 star reviews. I give exceptional value for the money, sleeps 2-3 families with lake views and easy access to the lake for all ages to enjoy at a bargain price.

great property,

  • 5 of 5

There were 4 adults/3 children in our party and we really enjoyed the property. Plenty of room for everyone, the porta crib and highchair were well appreciated. The creek in the back was a big hit with the 4yo and 2 yo. It was a short walk to area beach. Water was cold but this is Seattle, WA area. we all enjoyed our stay

Perfect Location

  • 5 of 5

We had 4 adults, 2 pre-teen and 2 little kids. This cabin was great. Lot's of deer to watch and the lake real close. All amenities we needed were there. I suggest stopping by and checking out before going to get groceries. We bought stuff we didn't need. Very close to Staircase park which you can't miss checking out. I highly recommend this rental!

Family time

  • 5 of 5

It is a great place for a family vacation, lots of comfortable sleeping space on 3 floors, a nice eating and living area for together time and places for privacy as well. The lake and surrounding scenery are beautiful. There is a good place for a campfire and s'mores.

My granddaughters had fun around the little stream.

Nice and quiet, lots to do.

  • 5 of 5

This is a nice and quiet place that is well equipped for a large group. The lake access is not far and there is a park with canoe and peddle boat rentals close by. We would definitely stay here again if we come back through the area.

It wasn’t sunny but the house and setting is beautiful and we really enjoyed ourselves!

The house is beautiful and comfortable! Definitely a home away from home. We were asked several times by our daughter, “can’t we just live here?”
