Aloha Ho'okipa - the Original Waialua Beach House (Permit #STMO2014/0001)

Bedrooms 3
Property type house
Minimum Stay 3 nights

About the property

House, 3 Bedrooms, 1 Bath, ( absolute maximum 6 guests)

Thank you for your interest in our Molokai Beach House. It is a nice, comfortable little cottage in Waialua - a small community on Molokai's lush East End. We have 3 bedrooms (1 double bed, 1 queen,1 queen + 1 twin), living room, complete kitchen and dining room, and 1 bath with shower, plus an outdoor hot-water shower. Sitting on the back porch, you have spectacular views of three islands - not to mention phenomenal whale-watching (in season, of course, which is late December through end of April).

The house is right on a private white sand beach on Molokai's lush East End. An ancient fish pond in front makes calm, shallow water for about 200 yards out to the reef. Great snorkeling and fishing are there at the reef directly in front of the house. Good surfing and body surfing can be found nearby. Fabulous hiking to lush waterfalls and historic sacred Hawaiian heiau is within a few minutes' drive.

Guestbook comments from the owner

I spoke to my family again and did get a better review from them. Turns out they loved the charm of this older house and liked that it was hidden away. Mahalo for bringing to my attention. I did not mean any offense to you or the home. It really was enjoyable!!

Moloka'i no ka oi!

  • 3 of 5

Anywhere on Moloka'i is good. The island is magical. Good house, big enough for my family, nothing fancy. The house is pretty old and could use some updating. The toilet handle broke while we were there. Simply wear and tear. Our time was spent on the beach and at our reunion, however, this house doesn't compare next to the other houses around there. If you renovate it and update it, then people visiting would stay. We are local so it didn't really bother us, but I can't see tourist staying here. The greenery in the yard should be cut back, it's overgrown and the path to the beach should be that hard to get to. It worked for us, so mahalo nui!!

The Best Little Beach House in Waialua

  • 5 of 5

We love Molokai, and without a doubt, Aloha Ho'okipa is the most simpatico property we've stayed at. Is it deluxe? Well, it doesn't have marble countertops or a jetted tub, but if that's what you're after you may be looking at the wrong island entirely. It has machetes and maps, tide tables and well-thumbed cookbooks, and honesty and integrity in every board and beam. Aloha Ho'okipa is exactly the kind of comfortable and homey place that, in another, much more chilled-out life, you'd live yourself.

In the morning, you'll pad down to the beach with a mug of coffee to catch the sunrise and see what's washed ashore overnight. Watch the cats investigate the crab burrows and wonder who catches whom. After breakfast, put the kayak in and paddle out to the reef, or strap on masks and fins from the laundry room collection and snorkel about. Spend an idle afternoon on the covered lanai, some hapa haole music playing quietly in the background, looking out at Maui and watching for sea turtles to swim past. Maybe hack open a freshly-fallen coconut and drink the water straight from the shell (or over ice with a few fingers of dark rum and a dash or two of bitters, if that's your thing). And when night's fallen, the poke's all eaten and the dishes put away, crank open all the louvers in the Ocean bedroom, climb into that high, queen-sized captain's bed, and fall asleep to the sound of the crashing surf and the wind in the palm fronds.

"Slow Down, this is Molokai!"

Simple Beach Cottage - Amazing Beach Access

  • 5 of 5

Lovely beach cottage just steps to the beach. Its nothing fancy - simple and comfortable with everything you need for a relaxing stay. Its a no worries place. Don't come looking for a Laguna Beach mansion. We swam and snorkeled. Drank coffee on the porch and played many card games in the warm evening air. Loved every minute.

Great Place

  • 5 of 5

Our family of 5 sure enjoyed our stay at this beach house. The house is very spacious and accommodating; starting to show its age but very clean. Only a few steps of the back porch and you're on the beach. The water is pretty shallow right in front of the house and was perfect for our younger kids. The bedroom on the ocean side is awesome for views and listening to the waves. We will definitely stay here again!

Comfy Beach Front House

  • 5 of 5

We had an awesome time at Aloha Ho'okipa. Great beachfront setting, with waves lapping a few short steps from your back door. The house is very comfortable, unpretentious and has a nice, homey feel. Very well-equipped; everything you need is there. Location on the east end of the island is very quiet and laid back. Mana'e Goods and Grinds just down the road has some great local food-- excellent. In all, a great setting and very relaxing. Highly recommended!

5 steps to the beach, can't be beat!!

  • 5 of 5

The Island of Moloka'i is already our favorite, but beach house, this time, really made it memorable!! Last time we were here, we stayed in a condo on the west side. What a world of difference on the east side! We loved walking outside and being in the beach and water. I loved the kitchen, and washer and dryer (because I'm a mom)..LOL. We met local boys that know the owners well, and they do the lawn work on the place sometimes. One of the boys is "adopted" by the Vanderkamps and was nice enough to tell us that we were cracking coconuts on "Uncle Bob!" I thought the pestle and mortar looking stones outside were for cracking coconuts. DON'T make the same mistake! I apologized to Uncle Bob like 18 times and i felt like I was forgiven. I loved the gecko, and the cats outside. My son really loved the cats. We made a trip into town just so he could get them wet food and treats. The house has everything you need and they are nice enough to leave lots of spices and condiments in the house! Love it!
