About the property

Cottage, 2 Bedrooms, 1 Bath, (Sleeps 4-5)

Seacliff Cottage is a beautifully decorated and comfortably furnished arts and crafts style home on Orcas Island in the scenic San Juan Islands of Washington State.

Situated on a waterfront cliff, this island getaway offers panoramic views of Rosario Straits, including spectacular sunrises, and a variety of pristine islands and mountains. Every room in Seacliff Cottage envelopes you in both quiet comfort and scenic delights.

With a National Wildlife Refuge less than a mile offshore, sea life is abundant. Watch seals, sea lions, otters, shorebirds, bald eagles and even whales from the attached, private deck and outdoor spa.

For the exercise aficionado, Mount Constitution is just a short 15-minute drive, and offers many different hiking trails to a variety of lakes, waterfalls and scenic overlooks, or the opportunity to take a relaxed drive to the mountaintop to take in the breathtaking scenery.

Just a bit farther down the road is the quaint town of Eastsound, populated with island arts and crafts stores, unique dining opportunities, movies and more. Visits to neighboring San Juan islands are accommodated by the island ferry boats, which can be accessed via a picturesque 40-minute drive around this horseshoe-shaped island.

Two bedrooms, one with a queen size bed and one with a full size bed, plus an extra-long window seat in the living room mean that Seacliff Cottage can comfortably accommodate up to five people. Each bedroom (including the window seat) is wrapped in windows, allowing guests to ‘breathe in’ the awe-inspiring surroundings from dawn to dusk.

If you are a nature enthusiast, or simply want to escape from your busy schedule and relax in the zen-like setting of this extraordinary hideaway, make Seacliff Cottage your next vacation destination.

Breathtakingly Incredible

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I spent an incredibly amazing week at Seacliff Cottage. The pictures of the Cottage and scenery do not do justice to how beautiful, relaxing and inviting this property is. From the balcony porches we. watched eagles soar, porpoise and seals playing in the water below the cliff and welcomed regular visits from the resident deer . The sunrises and sunsets are as good as they come. And if you are lucky enough to be at the Cottage as the full moon rises you'll experience a spectacular mix of the moon and. water. If you get tired of just relaxing at the Cottage there is so much to do on Orcas Island whether you like to hike, sightsee, whale watch or visits the charming East Sound Village. You simply cannot not thoroughly enjoy a stay at Seacliff Cottage. At least one stay at this fabulous property needs to be on everyone's bucket list.

Sensational Seacliff Cottage

  • 5 of 5

My husband Chris and I had an amazing, relaxing 7 night stay at Seacliff Cottage. The peace and quiet and all of natures splendor was exactly what we needed. Chris birdied every day right from the cottage and said it was spectacular. I SUPed daily, putting my board in just down the driveway. The skies of the sunrises and sunsets breathtaking and the stars at night amazing. All the wildlife so fun! We enjoyed rides to Moran State Park (fresh water Cascade Lake nice to SUP on) for hikes and Eastsound for a few hours to grab groceries or a growler of beer from Island Hoppin' Brewery and back to the cabin. Doug has thought of everything! He was there to greet us and we never saw him or needed him again! Everything was perfect! Definitely one of the best VRBO cabins we have ever booked. Totally relaxing and exactly what we needed. We will be back. Thank you so much Doug.

Perfect wooded getaway

  • 5 of 5

After carefully analyzing all the available houses on Orcas I hit the jackpot with my selection of Seacliff. I live on a tropical island with ocean views from the pool and lanai so was totally delighted with the amazing view from the elevated deck's spa tub. Loved the gas grill and cooked "at home" for 3 out of 4 nights. As others have noted the house is impeccably designed and furnished, thoughtful in all the amenities and beautifully situated for privacy. No neighbors, noise or lights. Doug's warm personal and thorough review of Seacliff and the area had me feeling settled in within minutes. The high point of my stay was watching the supermoon rise on a cloudless night and the ensuing eclipse. Priceless experience and a memory that will have me dreaming of this hideaway for years to come. I spent an entire day lounging in the window seat reading and watching the passing marine life and listening to the water. The house was the perfect size for a lady looking for tranquility, a change of scenery and an environment different from her own place in paradise.

Pacific Northwest

This was our second trip to Seacliff Cottage and it was again wonderful. The cottage is beautifully built to fit in to the surrounding forest and maximize the water views. It is nicely decorated with a NW theme.

The drive from the ferry is on the long side, but it is a lovely drive and you have end of the road privacy when you arrive.

We spent a relaxing day on Lopez Island and two trips to San Juan Island (do visit Bakery San Juan and Lime Kiln Park). Don’t miss Moran State Park, the park has great trails, lakes and the best view on the Island is from Mt. Constitution. One member of our party enjoyed a bike ride to the top of the mountain.

We loved watching the seals, Dall's porpoise, birds, and boats but the highlight of our stay was spending two hours out on the deck watching a large pod of Orcas make their way through the Strait. It was amazing!

Our family has stayed in several VRBO houses and this is the only place I have ever wanted to visit again.

Seacliff Cottage is a wonderful place. We highly recommend it.

Our three week July-August 2015 stay was an immersion in Seacliff’s beautiful site, design, workmanship and awesome water views. Seacliff as pictured on VRBO accurately captures a beautiful property but experiencing it far exceeds what pictures can capture.

Expansive cliff top water views from each of four principal rooms and the deck to distant islands provided often changing views of sky, water, many birds, including occasional bald eagles, and, on many days, dolphins and seals. Binoculars are highly recommended. With screened windows often open, we were also immersed in the the pleasing sounds of water and wildlife. Temperatures ranged into the 50s some nights with most days reaching upper 60s with some mid 70s as highs.

Humming birds attracted by deck planters full of blooming flowers and a feeder added enjoyment. Swirling, dancing, wave creating and rapidly moving tidal changes were a daily source of wonder for us. Occasional passing boats, kayaks and distant ships added interest to the views. provides ship identification and tracking information in real time.

A shady front entry garden with water feature, visible from kitchen and bath windows, attracted deer, squirrels and colorful birds.

The kitchens half size refrigerator, large chest freezer in the laundry and small dishwasher were sufficient for the two of us.

The attractively tiled single sink bath with large walk in shower is well designed with convenient cabinets and drawers for storage. Our first experience with a compost toilet was completely satisfactory.

Thoughtfully provided in the cottage were instructions for operating appliances as well as information about Orcas activities and dining.

We found the food at nearby (less than 10 minutes) Doe Bay Resort to be very good with a limited dinner and more expansive breakfast menu. The Catkin Café (less than 15 minutes) served a very good lunch and, we heard, a very good breakfast as well. Many other dining options are about 25-30 minutes from Seacliff toward and in Eastsound. When preparing dinner at Seacliff, Buck Bay Shellfish Farm (less than 15 minutes) proved to be an good source of fresh seafood as well as fresh fruits and vegetables.

Doug, our host, was very friendly, responsive and helpful with answers to our questions and very prompt in returning our security deposit.

Seacliff Cottage was the perfect retreat for our family of three - cozy enough to feel each others' presence, but with distinct spaces to sit and read, play games or take in the beauty of the San Juans. Our favorite things: falling asleep to the sound of water lapping against the rocks below the window, seeing how many deer we could spot while driving to and from the cottage, sheer amazement at the bald eagle hunting right outside the cottage, clambering on the rocks at Doe Bay and Deception Pass, and taking in the beautiful views from Moran State Park. Doug has impeccable tastes in the way he has decorated the cottage and has appointed it in a way that it felt like 'home' the minute we walked in the door. We're already planning our return trip next summer!
