Overview

About the property

House, 2 Bedrooms + Sunroom, 1 Bath, (Sleeps 6)

Sunny and bright, loads of light! Come and enjoy our clean, comfortable home away from home!

Our cedar-shaked, one-floor home welcomes you with vibrant flowerboxes and several flower beds on an acre in beautiful Maine. The two bedrooms (one with a double bed, one with twin beds) are complimented by the large sunny family room (with two queen futons) which leads to a private flagstone patio through French doors. The queen sofa bed in the living room is also available for sleeping. There is one full bathroom with bathtub; the shower has great water pressure to wash away your beach day's sand! Washer/dryer on are on site; there is an outdoor clothesline for drying beach towels and suits.

The home is well-suited for gatherings of your family and friends--settle by the indoor fireplace or relax around the outdoor fire pit for an evening campfire. The open-concept, fully equipped kitchen with bay window and the dining area are easily accessible to the large sunny deck via sliders and doors. The gently sloping lawn supports a large area for children to play safely nearby. Our large library of books allows you to read and relax whether you are out on the deck, down at the Point, or sitting on the beach! Our collection of DownEast magazines may help you plan your Maine adventures and excursions during your stay.

Famous Pemaquid Point Lighthouse lies just south down the road (2.5 miles) and the white sands of Pemaquid Beach are 1 mile east. We are located in the village of New Harbor with a quaint, fully-stocked grocery store, gas station, hardware/fishing gear store, ice cream stand, Maine artists' galleries & craft shops, and a bank/ATM all within walking distance from the house. New Harbor is central to all Midcoast Maine cities and towns--Freeport to Camden are within an hour of travel time. The twin cities of Damariscotta/Newcastle are the closest 'big' towns to our home.

Water sports (kayaking/canoeing, sailing, swimming (ocean, lake, river swimming 'hole'), fine restaurants, birding, Hardy Boat Tours (including Monhegan Island and the Maine coast), hiking, shopping/antiquing are all within several miles of our home. The Botanical Gardens in Boothbay are a must see! For children, there are many activities: beach fun, tide pool explorations, hands-on activities at the local Colonial Pemaquid Museum and the Boothbay Harbor Aquarium to name a few.

About Martha Brooks

I am a speech/language pathologist who has worked with children for over 30 years in the NH public schools. The children's enthusiasm for life and learning inspires me daily!

Why Martha Brooks chose New Harbor

My family has been coming to the Damariscotta/Pemaquid region since before my birth. I grew up vacationing at our family's log cabin on nearby Biscay Pond.

As an adult, I searched for a long time for my Mainehouse--a home that was slightly off the beaten path, but still close to the many places I loved around the Pemaquid Peninsula.

What makes this house unique

I treasure both the 'perfect summer days' and the quiet moments off-season that I have at my Mainehouse with family and friends. Whether I am reading, working on a quilt, going to an auction, or cooking a lobster meal for others, I am always amazed at the peace I feel in my home in Maine.

Sweet and lovely home

  • 5 of 5

We loved staying here! It's a great location and close to everything! We loved the back porch hidden from the road but very open and our dog loved hanging out there! The place is very well equipped. Martha is lovely and it was easy to communicate and work out our stay. We will gladly stay here when we visit Maine again.

Great host, great location, okay house

  • 4 of 5

The location is amazing and lovely, and Martha was very easy to deal with. The house itself was a bit too cluttered with the host's stuff for my liking, and the layout is a little odd (the front door opens straight into a bedroom, which you walk through to get to another bedroom, before finally hitting the living room). However, it's well-priced, and we'd definitely come back to New Harbor. Beautiful coastline and beaches, and very friendly people.

A spacious but cozy place to stay!

  • 5 of 5

This was a great find! I spent a weekend here with some friends for a wedding in the area. The owner was very friendly and easy to contact. The house itself was cozy and had plenty of space for the 6 of us to sleep. It was very pleasant to sit on the back deck while sipping coffee in the morning. There is a grocery store within walking distance and Pemaquid Lighthouse a short drive down the road. We had a little difficulty finding the house in the dark because GPS put it at 1.7 miles south of its actual location so I would recommend paying attention to house numbers as you approach. Overall, I would definitely stay here again!

Great location within 1 mile of a great beach

  • 4 of 5

Martha was extremely friendly and helpful. The house was very comfortable, and well stocked. Although it was not air conditioned it was well stocked with fans. Nice big yard and dog friendly, except it was on a main road with little traffic when we were there. So we were a bit concerned about our dog running free in the yard but the yard was big enough for him not to venture to the road. Great outdoor area and games to entertain us at night. I love the fact that it was so close to a great beach with facilities, nice restaurants and sightseeing places e.g. the light house and fort.

Cozy and peacful home away from home

  • 5 of 5

We found exactly what we were looking for. A warm place to call it home for a week with easy accsess to activities, beach, lots of area attractions, dinning, walks.

Private but not isolated. Very clean, well maintained and an impressive kitchen utensils inventory. We loved sitting on the porch early morning with a cup of coffee breathing fresh air or late evening sipping a glass of wine and watchin the sky full of stars.

Martha, the owner, was very kind and easy to work with. It didn’t sound like a business transaction to us but like we would be her guests from many years.

The grocery store / bakery is walking distance from the house and one can find there literally everything including liqueurs.

Overall a wonderful week. We’ll go back when visiting that part of Maine again.

Great vacation home

  • 5 of 5

Well stocked unique home. Close to the lighthouse, history sites, restaurants and the wharf. Main entrance would be better located only at the side so not walking thru bedrooms. House was cozy and inviting when you are not out And about. Dogs loved the large yard .
