About the property

House, 4 Bedrooms, 2 Baths, (Sleeps 8-12)

Photo opportunities of majestic raptors your friends and family will envy. Don't miss out!

This waterfront home on Thorndyke Bay offers a private, tranquil setting surrounded by old growth trees, yet situated on a level open home site encircled by a lush, grassy lawn. Access the no bank waterfront by a nice wide path, perfect for launching your kayaks, canoes or a small rowboat for a day of Hood Canal exploration. Enjoy a day of hiking in the Olympic National Forest and return to the house for a great barbeque and relax outside on the huge backyard deck. Bring the croquet set and have a friendly competition with your family or friends.

This house has 4 bedrooms which sleep 8 people in twin beds and 4 people in queen beds. The decor is comfortable and inviting. Spend hours just reading and hanging out if that is the reason for your retreat. Motorcycle groups could easily use this as a home base for day trips on some of the most scenic destination highways in the Pacific Northwest. Day 1 you could follow northwest waterways from Port Townsend to Neah Bay or hit the winding hills up to Hurricane Ridge to take in the outstanding view of Vancouver Island and Victoria BC. Come back and have a hearty dinner and a game of poker at the huge wooden dining room table. Day 2 could take you south along Hood Canal to Shelton and back through the sleepy South Sound communities. For those of you who like quilting, scrapbooking, or other arts and crafts they too could be done on the huge wooden table. Spread out your supplies, without having to worry about anybody messing up your stuff. This home was originally set up to be used as a corporate retreat, and still could be.

The central location of this house makes it easy to get to all of the quaint towns on the Kitsap and Olympic Peninsulas. If you are in town to attend a wedding in Port Gamble, or one of the many huge events held there each year this house is only minutes away. Port Gamble is home to The Medieval Festival, The Civil War Reenactment, The Ghost Conference and many more events throughout the year. (15 mins) Close also to the Norwegian themed town of Poulsbo which offers shopping, fine dining and is home to the famous Central Market with its locally grown organic meats, fish, produce and specialty foods. (20 mins) Pay a visit to Port Angeles and take in Hurricane Ridge in the Olympic National Forest, from one of their many different hiking trails. (1 hr) There are many attractions less than one hour away. Sequim annually hosts the lavender festival, or you can kayak to the lighthouse on the world famous Dungeness Spit and have a picnic before paddling back. (35 min) Port Townsend has many events all year long. One of the most popular is The Wooden Boat Festival. Port Townsend also offers many shops, galleries and restaurants. (30 mins) Port Ludlow has 3 public courses at their world class golfing facility which is just 15 minutes from the house. There are several extraordinary golf courses close to the house as well as 3 of the Northwest’s finest casinos. The Olympic Music Festival is about 20 minutes away. World renowned musicians play Chamber Music every Saturday and Sunday in the summer, as you picnic on a blanket on the lawn. There is also the opportunity to tour the 8 local wineries of the Olympic Peninsula. Each winery offers different varietals of wine and some have cider and each has their own unique ambiance.

Whatever the reason for your stay, I guarantee this home will measure up to all your needs with its fully stocked kitchen and comfy, cozy living spaces and huge outdoor deck with propane barbeque!

Guestbook comments from the manager

Sitting on the deck of Thorndyke Lodge feels as though you've been transported to some remote Alaskan wildlife refuge. The silence is deafening, the wildlife is everywhere, and the sense of peace is powerful. It's hard to believe that such a spectacular experience can be had so close to home.

Great Time at Thorndyke Lodge

  • 5 of 5

We had a great time at the Thorndyke lodge, We traveled from Iowa to spend the Christmas holidays with family in Washington. We enjoyed spending time at the lodge and were blown away by the cabin and views the lodge provided. This is a great place to stay if you want to get away form it all. Tonya was great to work with, there was a little hick up when we got to the property, but she took care of us. Thank you Tonya! All in all a great place, on a fantastic location. You wont be disappointed with the Thorndyke Lodge. Cant wait to come back.

Spacious waterfront cabin

  • 5 of 5

This cabin is great for the family. It's secluded, located right on the water and has a nice sandy/pebble beach. Our children played for hours outside even in the winter. The property is clean and well maintained. The owner/property manager is very responsive with great communication. We left an item at the property and she promptly mailed it back to us. Highly recommend and will come back for another visit.

This is a wonderful opportunity for a large family or 2 to enjoy ALL that the Pacific Northwest had to offer: walks on the beach, hikes in the woods, and scenic drives!

Comfortable stay for a family of 10

  • 5 of 5

Our family rented this place for the labor day weekend before school starts. The place was comfortable for 8 adults and 2 teenagers. The house sat in the end of the driveway, extremely private. Do follow The direction provided instead of trusting The Google map. The view was so wonderful. The house have everything you needed. However, if you are planning to cook quite a bit, bring your own spices since there were only salt and pepper. Overall, lovely stay and highly recommended.

Comfortable, idylic seclusion

  • 5 of 5

Thorndyke lodge was our home away from home for nearly 5 winter months. Firstly, I can't overstate the serenity and beauty of the location. Nestled in Thorndyke Bay, the deck enjoys sweeping views of the bay and Hood Canal. The tall cedar and maple further enhance the feeling of seclusion. A couple of very short trails access the shoreline and a clear, babbling creek. On any given day, you'll be entertained by the eagles, herons and bunnies.

The house is comfortable, spacious and well appointed for group and family living. The open kitchen, long rustic dining table and deck with a view are natural gathering points, and there is plenty of well kept lawn for kids (or adults!) to play on. There are 4 bedrooms, numerous comfortable beds and two bathrooms.

Tonya, the property manager is a delight; she is charming, professional and always available to make sure your needs are met. As I said before, the property is secluded, so make sure you have all your supplies before you arrive and be ready to settle in and relax.
