Calling all nature lovers! In a word, 'Edges' is splendid! It is gorgeous, peaceful, private. Dark green spruces mingle with black and white birches. Mosses and lichen color granite rocks. Wild Maine roses spice the salt air.
Our house faces South,on the water's edge. The view is down the cove (protected, deep-water anchorage) to sea . The property runs the entire 600' on the cove's west side, encompasses over 3 acres and ends on a spectacular point with views out to Monhegan Island. Views are gorgeous and you have privacy and space. You can walk, fish, read, create, boat, daydream. Paddle a kayak around the islands. Dine al fresco on the point. Watch the incoming tide splash its way against the rocks. Search for treasure left behind.
The house's cedar-sided exterior is contemporary. The spruce and pine interior is warm and inviting, with exposed beams and columns.
Our house features an extended living room, with a dining area and kitchen at one end.The master bedroom/full bath suite, plus private porch and deck are off the east end. There are 2 decks and a portion of the master bedroom deck is screened. A multi-story window in the living room provides wonderful light and view. Floors are random width pine with area rugs.
Furniture is casual and comfortable. The modern kitchen includes gas range, microwave, and dishwasher. There is also a half bath and laundry room with washer & dryer. Second story features: 2nd bedroom has dressing area with 2-steps up to sleeping area, queen-sized bed, water view. 3rd bedroom with twin beds, hall full bath (T/S), library/loft with water view.

Wonderful family getaway! Peaceful and rejuvenating!
The EDGES is a magical place. Sherry was very pleasant to speak with and her home was absolutely a secluded retreat. The home is very rustic on the outside and blends in very nicely with the thick wooded landscape. Although there were neighbors, we could not see them through the woods and we never heard them. The interior was a comfortable, well appointed, very clean, cabin-like home which we found very relaxing. With private access to the entire west side of the wooded cove, our two boys, ages 12 and 13 were in heaven. They actually made a sail raft from wood and other items that had washed up on the shore, and then actually sailed it the entire length of the cove.
Amazing trip! It was our first time to Maine. We would definitely go back and stay at the Edges again.
A piece of heaven in Maine!
Edges is a great place for a quiet get away and enjoying the beauty of nature. It is also quite easy to get to many other attractions nearby including museums, ferry trips to island, good restaurants, fresh lobster very close.
This is our fourth year renting this property which says it all! The owners have been wonderful to work with and are responsive to any questions. We consider it a privilege to spend time here. Thanks!
Quiet, private and serenely pretty !
My husband and I have stayed at many HomeAway properties and this one is now at the top of our favorites list. If you are looking for both privacy and a quiet place right on the water, you will not be disappointed here at The Edges. The house is lovely, comfortable and has a great layout. A huge picture window dominates the main living area and it provides both a gorgeous view of the cove and lots of natural light (which we crave.) A huge deck with plenty of seating runs the length of the back of the house. It is delightful for reading, eating, snoozing or just watching the tide come in. There's even a screened-in porch right off the master bedroom. The furniture throughout is comfy with plenty of throw pillows and the owner assured me there were enough of them to take onto the deck for comfy Adirondack-chair sitting. She was right ! We loved that the main level had a huge master suite so we didn't even need to go upstairs the whole week. Yet upstairs does have two more bedrooms and a study, so there's plenty of space for a family or several couples. The house does have wi-fi and a well-equipped kitchen with high-end appliances. The property is deceptively large- there's a short walking path right on the property which is delightful to discover. It meanders through the pines down the length of the cove and leads to either another gorgeous sitting spot at a little cabin (take your morning coffee there) or further down to "the point". What a treat! Venture out onto the rocks to daydream, watch the ospreys, or enjoy a beautiful sunset. There will be no one else around. The moments of bliss are endless. There is so much to do in the area -Rockland and Camden are quintessential harbor towns with so much ambiance. Or stay on the island where this house is located and just unwind. The decision each day to either stay at the house or go out to explore is a hard one to make, but a nice one to have. A few of our favorites: dinner at Miranda's Cafe in Rockland, homemade pie & ice cream at Waterman's Beach Lobster Shack (5 min. away), and a hike for the magnificent view atop one of the peaks in Camden Hills State Park. Don't hesitate to contact the owners and ask questions. They could not be more friendly and accommodating. They really do care that you have a perfect stay at their home. We certainly did.
Most relaxing vacation ever!
Myself, my husband, and my inlaws spent a wonderful week at Edges. The grounds are lush and beautiful and we had a great time exploring the water's edge path to the point. We slept with the windows open to take advantage of the breeze and the sounds of the water. I enjoyed using the screened porch off of the master bedroom for my reading time, but my favorite thing to do was taking my coffee down the path to the little cabin's porch every morning. What a beautiful view! Our days were split between spending time at Edges and exploring nearby Camden and Rockland. We also visited the transportation museum that is only a few minutes drive from Edges. We enjoyed every minute of our vacation and so did my inlaws. They mentioned that they have spoken of the trip every day since our return. Also, the owners are the best!
accurate property description
lovely secluded location, however the property maintenance was not as described and hopefully the roof doesn't leak or the dishwasher breaks because you may have to cover the bill. Not very easy to discuss issues with the owner. But a nice location overall.
There is no maintenance issue here. This is about responsibility for damage. These tenants damaged a large landscape print by Monet. Their accounts of what happened did not match up and while we were not eyewitnesses to the event, we feel, as do the frame shop professionals, they took the painting off the wall and then rehung it incorrectly, using only one of the two hooks to hang it back up. We had hung it on two 50 lb. hooks. One hook remained intact in the wall and showed no damage, and the other was ripped out of the wall and bent. The glass on the painting was broken and the frame corners jarred apart. This is the first time in five years of renting that we have withheld any money from a security deposit. The exact repair amount was withheld and a copy of the shop's bill included with the balance of the deposit.
Serenity and Seclusion at Edges
My wife, daughter, and I stayed for a week at Edges in August. After a very long day of driving it was a big relief to find out that the description and photos of the place didn't do the reality justice. It was charmingly rustic yet had everything you could possibly need for a comfortable stay. The location is picture perfect: very private, very green, and very relaxing. The town of Rockland was an easy 15 minute drive. While we missed having internet access and satellite t.v. (more for our daughter's amusement than our own), I would not hesitate to spend another week at this totally relaxing, highly enjoyable house.
Come to 'Edges' and you won't want to leave. But Rockland, Rockport, Camden, Thomaston, Port Clyde, are minutes away and have it all:nationally acclaimed festivals,1st class museums, auctions, historic sites, golf courses, restaurants and day cruises.Want to do the blues with stars like Bobby Bland? Go to The Blues Festival in Rockland. How about the art of the Wyeths & other prestigious artists who painted New England? Spend the day at The Farnsworth Museum; later visit the home depicted in Andrew Wyeth's 'Christina's World'. Rather play golf? Tee off oceanside at the Samoset or 3 Dogs PC. Like cars, bikes & airplanes? Owl's Head Transportation Museum is for you. They have many summer events, even live auctions- no telling what you could bring home! And there are many nearby antique auctions.Or treasure hunt at flea markets. Don't forget Rockland's Lobster Festival, with parade, exhibitions, and 'lobstah'! I have it from a reliable source there's quite a few 'lobstahs' with your name on them. Kayak and explore around the islands.Fish from off the point or on a deep-sea charter boat. Enjoy great golfing on the ocean, at 3 dogs golf course and the samoset resort golf course, both within a few miles. Dine at award-winning fine restaurants (Primo's grows their own produce), or enjoy relaxed home-cooking at small local establishments. Try the hardy breakfasts at the Keag, with the locals.
