About Annette Cates
This was a project... although the end result - absolutely beautiful, with lots of customized features thru out our cabin. I started this project because I was taking care of my Mom and I needed to hire additional help...so we decided to restore this 1850's originally built cabin ... Charlotte G Kibler (my mother) passed away before I was finished however I know she would be proud of how it has turned out...I have designed cabin to accomodate the elderly and handicapped. We all need a vacation...It is hard taking care of your loved ones and this is when you deserve the vacation the most. So bring all and all will be comfortable...
Annette Cates purchased this Cabin in 2010
Why Annette Cates chose Luray
I decided on this property for renovation because of the historic uniqueness and where it is located.

Beautiful house. Spotless wonderful views and great location. Soundproofing would be great
Would recommend this without reservation.
Great combination of old and new
Only perhaps a quarter of the floor plan is the old cabin, but the rest of the addition was done beautifully to coordinate with the original. It is a wonderful cabin and well worth the price. The bathroom was just amazing.
The only negatives are that it is not quite so secluded as the pictures appear (it is immediately on a road, though it is a very lightly trafficked road), and that despite the well-appointed kitchen that includes most things you will need (even a food processor!) you will want to bring your own knives. The knives here have trouble cutting banana.
Thank you for your review! I am going to take this opportunity to make others aware of more of the history of my cabin.
In the 1850's when folks built their homes they built as close to the roadway as possible to make it easier for their horse and buggy to travel the dirt roadway, of course now roadway is paved. I restored the original part of cabin which is the master bedroom and the loft (second bedroom) now = 2 story...as I added on I did in a way to expose original parts of cabin in both bathrooms and great room area. Master bedroom flooring is totally original with some boards being wormy chestnut----I plan to keep this floor as long as possible however, I may eventually need to redo. A lot of thought, hard work and dedication to preserving as much of original cabin as possible was put into this with the custom purpose built addition! The privacy area is on the back patio area where hot tub is located and you can enjoy trails leading to our private fishing pond along with logging trails thru out our 39 acres, as our cabin sits along roadside our cabin is easily accessible and just 12 min from Town of Luray as I state in my description of cabin.
I did not realize my (knives will not cut a banana as quoted per you in this review) I will certainly check my sharp knives. For future guests knowledge- I do appreciate my guests letting me know directly if any kitchen items need to be replaced or are missing as I do not get the opportunity to stay in my cabins so therefore, a knife that should be sharp may get dulled from regular use.
Thank you for the acknowledgement of how the OLD AND NEW COME TOGETHER with the ultimate of comforts!

Cozy Mountain Cabin!
Our stay was great! Our group was made up of 7 adult friends and partners just wanting to spend time together and get away for a weekend. In our planning the owner Annette was very responsive and timely in answering all questions we had, she even very graciously accommodated a change in weekends when I accidentally booked the wrong dates. Once we arrived we were all pleasantly surprised at how charming the place was, plenty of places to sleep and the perfect big living room/kitchen/dining area for all of us to congregate. The hot tub was phenomenal and all of us really enjoyed the outside fire pit area. We all had a great time and would not hesitate to highly recommend the place and/or to return in the future.
Thank you for choosing our cabin! I am so glad you enjoyed your stay! Do come see us again in the future! Thank you for the wonderful compliments on hospitality!
Loved it. Very relaxing!
Had no issues or problems. Will stay again if opportunity arises. Thank you!
So glad you all enjoyed your stay!
Yes do come visit us again!
Weekend get-a-way - Perfect!
We stayed at the cabin for just the weekend and would stay there again and again! It was beautiful and had everything we needed! Cannot wait to stay there again in the fall when the leaves are changing! Annette is a wonderful owner and very helpful! Highly recommend!
Thank you for sharing your experience with others and we welcome your return!
Beautiful cabin with great amenities!
I rented this cabin to celebrate my six year anniversary. I really wanted to have a romantic getaway weekend since we don't get to spend too much time together. In researching different cabins, I realized that in order to get the romantic getaway that I wanted I would have to pay a little more than what I originally wanted. Worth it! The cabin is absolutely GORGEOUS! It has everything you could possibly think of including towels, linens, blankets, multiple places and wood to start a fire to keep warm (indoors and outdoors), utensils and cooking supplies galore (salt, pepper, spatulas, cork screw, grilling utensils, plates, pots and pans, even had some skewers for s'mores!) It really felt as if they had thought of every detail in the cabin ranging from the floor details in the main area to the tub and shower with two shower heads in the master bath! The hot tub and fire pit outside were the cherry on top for us! We originally wanted to do some hiking and exploring, but we ended up spending the entire two days at the cabin drinking wine, listening to music, and watching the stars in the hot tub which was awesome even in the 20 degree weather! To top the entire thing off, we saw TWO shooting stars while we were there, it was absolutely romantic! When we arrived I couldn't log on to my VRBO site so I had to call the owner to give me the code to go inside. She was very helpful and even sent me an email with all of the info I was missing from the site! Although the cabin is not secluded, the cabin's glass doors and windows are set to where the other houses are out of sight and there is plenty of space between all the homes to where it still feels private. 95% of the view from inside is mountains, which made me so happy. My only suggestion would be to add better security to the home..any sort of alarm or anything stronger than a normal door lock would have made me feel safer. With that being said, we did NOT have any issues with neighbors and we even played our music outside while in the hot tub and did not have any complaints! I would also suggest to future renters to bring your own towels if you are picky about using smelly towels. The towels all smelled like they had been left in the washer for a long time before drying, which is understandable. Not a big deal, but worth noting. Overall, it has now been a week since my trip and I am still on cloud 9 about the entire stay and I know it wouldn't have been the same if we had stayed elsewhere!
