About Alex Agurcia

We have four daughters enjoy the Russel Estate regularly as our family's second home. My wife and I got married on this property and have owned it for over 15 years. Because of their exposure to this property and the keys in general over the years , our daughters have grown up to appreciate and value the profound natural beauty of tropical ocean life. They have spent hours, days and years exploring and collecting all sorts of marine life or just playing or enjoying the outside. As the property has shown us lots of love and beauty over the years, we continue give the love back with regular upgrades and maintenance, new features and play items.

Alex Agurcia purchased this house in 2002

Why Alex Agurcia chose Islamorada

This property has significant historical value as one of 29 red cross homes built after the devastating hurricane of 1935. It was also owned and homesteaded by one of the founding families of Islamorada, the Russell's. Beyond that, the marine wildlife and views around the property are amazing. On any given day you may be able to catch a sighting of dolphins, turtles, stingrays, horseshoe crabs, starfish as well as all types of tropical fish and bird life just by sitting ocean side. Ocean Kayaking and swimming is available right off the property. The yard is large and private and offers perfect, unobstructed views of the Atlantic ocean with breathtaking, colorful horizons as the sun sets and rises on the ocean. And.... if you ever have the motivation to actually leave this tropical paradise, any one of the best restaurants and entertainment in Islamorada is only minutes away --- walking, biking or short drives away.

What makes this house unique

Complete privacy and peacefulness. Easy access to great restaurants, marinas and nightlife. A truly unforgettable, special tropical retreat.

Keys Strong - Wish We Could Have Stayed All Winter

  • 5 of 5

This is our second stay at this amazing property. We love Islamorada, and this oceanside property in particular, and were so worried as we watched the hurricane footage this past Fall. The owner is fantastic, so when he said everything would be wonderful for our stay I knew it would be true, but I still wasn't sure exactly what to expect. When we arrived in December, I was so relieved that Islamorada is as beautiful as ever, as is the house and the grounds. The backyard beach and dock are so peaceful - all of the sealife and birds are back - and the sunrises from the master bedroom are to die for as usual. There is a new beach sand volleyball court which my nephews loved. Inside everything is as good as, or better than, how we left it last year. The master bathroom has been beautifully redone. All of our favorite restaurants and activities were open and in many cases newly renovated. We had the best time and were so sad to leave. We have already booked our upcoming third stay at The Russell Estate and we are counting the days. I can't recommend this property and this owner more highly.

Owner's Response: Thanks Abbey. We worked hard to get the property back in shape as well as adding some new features like beach volleyball, the tiki hatch sunbrella palaca, sun shades over the hammocks and a new dock. You are terrific guests and we look forward to your visit once again next December.

Beautiful property & excellent location

  • 5 of 5

We had a great week at this house. The property is absolutely beautiful...so nice to have such a pretty beach to hang out on. I rocked my 10 month old son everyday on the hammock to get him down for his nap. Alex was great communicating with us to make sure we didn’t need anything. Since it was too windy to take the boat out to fish most of the time we were there, we took the kids to Theater of the Sea, which was super close to the house. We have driven by this place a million times, but never stopped. I would definitely recommend spending a few hours there. The dolphin show was great, and my daughter got to swim with a sea lion. All in all it was a great trip and I’m glad we booked this house since we had a lot of down time, not being able to fish! Great place to hang with the family! Would definitely rent again. Thanks Alex!

Beautiful place

  • 4 of 5

The place is beautiful. We never had to leave; had the beach, fishing and activities all in one. House was clean, however, there were a few things that needed maintenance. I contacted the owner so hopefully these items will be fixed for the next guests. I would advise you to bring oars for the kayaks if you want to be able to use them all. There was only 1 oar when we arrived and the 2nd was broken. We fixed it so we were able to use it but still had to purchase 2 so that we all could go out together. There was plenty of wildlife to be seen which we loved. Location was perfect for us. We would stay again

Beautiful property. Awesome location directly on the beach. Private location.

  • 5 of 5

Everything went smooth and met all our expectations. Property well appointed with updated baths and kitchen. Beds were very comfortable and living area was spacious. The property location was conviently located within 3-5 minutes of multiple restaurants, fishing charters and convience stores. I'd highly recommend this property.

Better than advertised

  • 5 of 5

My girlfriend and I went expecting a lovely stay. The house was very nice; the beach was nothing short of spectacular. Sunrise every day, fishing off the dock, clear water, and a beach that was perfect Florida white. I'd go again anytime.

All the best of Islamorada in your private paradise

  • 5 of 5

This was our 5th time staying at the Russell Estate since 2013. EVERY year, BEFORE we arrive, I tell my husband THIS TIME I want to "explore" more of the Keys. Every year, I think I want to go see the parks and beaches. Then we get here and I don't want to leave! From sunrise to sunset and often after, we walk the dock and seawall and marvel at the birds, sea life, and all the colors of blue and green of the water as the tides come and go. We have kayaked and floated around the yard with nurse sharks, rays and fish in arm's reach. The "yard" is your own private aquarium and wildlife preserve. Herons, egrets, pelicans, osprey, cormorants, frigate birds, ibis and gulls too numerous to name fly overhead and hunt in the ocean. At your feet, corals, crabs, colorful trunk and cowfish, snappers and more. The house is lovely and every window has a wonderful view of the ocean or palms and flowering trees, complete with iguana and lizards.

Alex is a most attentive owner and wonderful to work with and he has stocked the place with kayaks, fishing poles and all manner of rafts, bikes and snorkeling gear.

We will be back and I will think I want to explore other places. Until we get here and find we already have all the best of Islamorada right here at the Russell Estate.
