About Alex Agurcia

We have four daughters enjoy the Russel Estate regularly as our family's second home. My wife and I got married on this property and have owned it for over 15 years. Because of their exposure to this property and the keys in general over the years , our daughters have grown up to appreciate and value the profound natural beauty of tropical ocean life. They have spent hours, days and years exploring and collecting all sorts of marine life or just playing or enjoying the outside. As the property has shown us lots of love and beauty over the years, we continue give the love back with regular upgrades and maintenance, new features and play items.

Alex Agurcia purchased this house in 2002

Why Alex Agurcia chose Islamorada

This property has significant historical value as one of 29 red cross homes built after the devastating hurricane of 1935. It was also owned and homesteaded by one of the founding families of Islamorada, the Russell's. Beyond that, the marine wildlife and views around the property are amazing. On any given day you may be able to catch a sighting of dolphins, turtles, stingrays, horseshoe crabs, starfish as well as all types of tropical fish and bird life just by sitting ocean side. Ocean Kayaking and swimming is available right off the property. The yard is large and private and offers perfect, unobstructed views of the Atlantic ocean with breathtaking, colorful horizons as the sun sets and rises on the ocean. And.... if you ever have the motivation to actually leave this tropical paradise, any one of the best restaurants and entertainment in Islamorada is only minutes away --- walking, biking or short drives away.

What makes this house unique

Complete privacy and peacefulness. Easy access to great restaurants, marinas and nightlife. A truly unforgettable, special tropical retreat.

Keys Strong - Wish We Could Have Stayed All Winter

  • 5 of 5

This is our second stay at this amazing property. We love Islamorada, and this oceanside property in particular, and were so worried as we watched the hurricane footage this past Fall. The owner is fantastic, so when he said everything would be wonderful for our stay I knew it would be true, but I still wasn't sure exactly what to expect. When we arrived in December, I was so relieved that Islamorada is as beautiful as ever, as is the house and the grounds. The backyard beach and dock are so peaceful - all of the sealife and birds are back - and the sunrises from the master bedroom are to die for as usual. There is a new beach sand volleyball court which my nephews loved. Inside everything is as good as, or better than, how we left it last year. The master bathroom has been beautifully redone. All of our favorite restaurants and activities were open and in many cases newly renovated. We had the best time and were so sad to leave. We have already booked our upcoming third stay at The Russell Estate and we are counting the days. I can't recommend this property and this owner more highly.

Owner's Response: Thanks Abbey. We worked hard to get the property back in shape as well as adding some new features like beach volleyball, the tiki hatch sunbrella palaca, sun shades over the hammocks and a new dock. You are terrific guests and we look forward to your visit once again next December.

We loved The Russell Estate! The views are amazing, and the house is adorable. There is nothing that we needed but the owner is super quick to respond and check in, should anything come up! We will be back. Thank you, Alex!

Beautiful property for a week in the keys!

  • 4 of 5

Our fanily of 4 stayed here for a week. The property is conveniently located near shops, restaurants, grocery stores and activities like boating and watersports. We saw lots of marine life just of the dock, including dolphins and stingrays! We rented a boat for a day and went to three snorkling spots where we experienced some of the best snorkeling ever. The property is pretty and kept up well. The kayaks were used every day. The kitchen could use some updates and could be stocked better. The number of knives, cup and glasses was limited. Otherwise a very comfortable house to enjoy a relaxing week in the keys!

Owner's Response: We appreciate the positive review and always ask for suggestions. The stove, toaster oven and dishwasher are less than 2 years old and the fridge is 7 years old. The kitchen is stocked for servings for at least 8 persons, including knives, cups and glasses.

The view and the hanging area are spectacular.

  • 3 of 5

The view and the hanging area are absolutely awesome! And Alex is great to get in touch with when needed.

As for the house, since it's an older house, they were a few things that needed to be mended. The dining room door that lead to the back patio was not opening, my brother-in-law had to fix it. He also try to tightened the toilette sit in the guest bathroom, however it was still loose when we left. In the master bedroom the two sockets by the TV were not working and there was not enough cooling blowing in that room even-though the ventilation was working. We informed Alex about these inconvenience, hopefully they will be repaired for the next renters. I was also a bit disappointed initially that we couldn't swim on the property beach, due to the accumulation of seaweed and a bit of debris ( then again, this was on every beaches we went in the Keys, I guess it was just that time of year). Nevertheless, we had an absolute fantastic vacation! Right off the dock, we saw horseshoe crabs, rays, a small nurse shark (about 2.5 feet), so many different type of fish and birds; a paradise for a marine life lover!

Fantastic family vacation!

  • 5 of 5

This was a charming home on a stunning piece of property - like a resort beach all to ourselves. Spending time on the hammocks was awesome and we saw some of the most amazing sunrises ever! Everyone enjoyed all the sea life around the dock as well. The owner, Alex, was most attentive and responded immediately with any questions we had. We will definitely be back!!
