Overall, we had a wonderful stay at this lovely house. The pictures are quite an accurate representation of the house and property. The traffic outside on highway 1 was more than we expected but manageable. Please note though that we did not hear any traffic noise while were in the house or on the beach part of the property. Overall, it was a bery lovely stay and I highly recommend it for families in the future
Excellent property and Home
I can't say enough great things about this property and home! The property is massive, with plenty of space for all kinds of activities: there is a basketball hoop, a volley ball/badminton net with balls/ racquets provided. 3 sides of the property are sand and the beach front has shaded hammocks and a wonderful long dock for boats and lounging to watch the spectacular sunrises and sunsets. We took our 2 Rhodesian Ridgebacks and they had the time of their lives...the entire property is fully fenced and so we felt the dogs were completely safe...they even learned how to ride in a kayak (there were 3 or 4 provided, plus life jackets) The house is far larger than it first appears upon arrival, and was spotless! The kitchen is fully equipped with everything you might need to cook meals for a large group. It was extremely hot when we were there, and the AC, fans etc. made it so comfortable day and night. This was the best rental property we have ever had in the Keys. We always look for a place for 2 weeks each summer and this rental was a dream location. Aside from the wonderful home and property, it is situated to groceries, and so many options for shopping restaurants/bars and everything you might want to do! Like I said, the best place we have ever stayed in the Keys, and Alex (the owner) is on top of everything and completely responsive for questions or concerns. BEST RENTAL EVER!
We had a good week at the Russell Estate. The backyard is phenomenal ! We kayaked, saw lots of marine life off of the dock, and relaxed under the palm trees in the back yard. There were hermit crabs at night and iguanas during the day. The volley ball net was nice, the hammocks both had a few strings broken on them but still functioned. There was a bit of seaweed but this is everywhere right now. I loved how the Publix was across the street. The house is older but taken care of and everything worked properly. I really liked the shower in the master bathroom. This house is right down the street from Theatre of the Sea and a wonderful restaurant called Wahoos. We also went deep sea fishing and cooked our fish there on the grill.
Perfect location. Wonderfully quiet private beach. The house is well stocked and Alex has been very attentive. Looking forward to our return!
What a 25th Anniversary!
We really, really enjoyed our stay at this property. I researched probably 50 homes in the keys before choosing the Russell Estate. The home is beautiful and historic. Your backyard for the week is sand, palm trees, and the ocean. The lot is huge and the house sits far back from the road. The home has lots of stuff in the kitchen from previous guests (spices, etc) and we left ours as well. We cooked a few meals there versus eating out and the kitchen is stocked with everything you need. Tons of extra linens. Tons of sheets, towels. All the appliances are nice, even the ice maker kept up with us!
The Publix supermarket is directly across the street. Seaside restaurants are within walking distance. What a wonderful time.
Alex the owner is responsive to any questions you may have and is super kind. We do plan on returning to this property.

About Alex Agurcia
We have four daughters enjoy the Russel Estate regularly as our family's second home. My wife and I got married on this property and have owned it for over 15 years. Because of their exposure to this property and the keys in general over the years , our daughters have grown up to appreciate and value the profound natural beauty of tropical ocean life. They have spent hours, days and years exploring and collecting all sorts of marine life or just playing or enjoying the outside. As the property has shown us lots of love and beauty over the years, we continue give the love back with regular upgrades and maintenance, new features and play items.

This property has significant historical value as one of 29 red cross homes built after the devastating hurricane of 1935. It was also owned and homesteaded by one of the founding families of Islamorada, the Russell's. Beyond that, the marine wildlife and views around the property are amazing. On any given day you may be able to catch a sighting of dolphins, turtles, stingrays, horseshoe crabs, starfish as well as all types of tropical fish and bird life just by sitting ocean side. Ocean Kayaking and swimming is available right off the property.
