House, 5 Bedrooms, 5.5 Baths, (Sleeps 12)
Located behind the second security gate on a quite cul-de-sac, our Kiawah Island home sits on a wooded lot, overlooking Turtle Point’s 12th hole. Sit in the infinity edged pool or enjoy a refreshing drink from the large screened porch or rear deck while taking in the view. The beach is just a few minute bike ride or walk away (about 500 yds as the crow flies), as are many of the other amenities on Kiawah Island.
From the moment you step inside, you will feel at home. The interior spaces are light and cheery with the home's southern exposure, 10’ ceilings, and open floor plan. With approximately 3500 square feet of living space, this “like new” home, built in 2007, with 5 bedrooms and 5.5 baths can accommodate more than one family or several couples, with an upstairs and downstairs master suite.
As you open the front door, Brazilian cherry hardwood floors, thick crown molding, and premium finishes greet you. The first floor has been designed for family living and entertaining. The spacious living area features a custom mantel with a gas fireplace, floor-to ceiling windows, and a French door which opens up to the rear deck and infinity pool. The entertainment area comes complete with a large 1080p flat screen TV and DVD-player. A large breakfast room and gourmet kitchen adjoins the living room. Custom cabinets, top-of-the line stainless steel appliances, and granite countertops highlight this space. The kitchen is well stocked with everything needed to make a simple meal to a gourmet delight. A granite butler’s pantry from the kitchen leads to a large dining room with a sliding door, perfect for entertaining.
A spacious master suite is located on the first floor as well. The king sized bed, well appointed furniture, flat screen TV and sliding glass doors leading to the rear deck adorn this private retreat. The master bath features a tile-surround soaking tub, a frameless glass shower and his-and-her vanities set in granite. A large walk-in closet adjoins the master bath.
Just off the breakfast room is a large screened-in porch with bead-board ceiling, a table and chairs to enjoy your morning coffee. A wide deck spans the entire length of the back of the house and includes outdoor furniture and a gas grill. The 12 x 22 foot infinity pool can be heated in the fall and early spring should you wish (for a fee). A half bathroom and large laundry room with washer and dryer complete the first floor living space.
On the second floor, you will find four additional spacious bedrooms, each with their own luxurious private baths. Two of these bedrooms have queen sized beds, and the third has three twin beds. There is a small flat-screen TV in both of the queen rooms, and one in the twin room with a DVD player. A second upstairs master bedroom features a king sized bed and large closet, perfect for a second family to enjoy with a large flat-screen TV. A small alcove past the twin bedroom has a small desk, perfect for your laptop should you wish to conduct business while away from home. Wireless internet is available.
Whether enjoying a walk or jog on the 10 miles of Kiawah's private beach, riding on miles of bike paths scattered throughout the island, kayaking on the Kiawah river, boating at Bohicket marina, bird watching or fishing, Kiawah is the place to be! Kiawah is well-known for its championship golf courses and is rated among the top golf resort destinations in the world. The Ocean Course will host the PGA Championship in 2012. Tennis lovers beware! The Roy Barth Tennis Center, just minutes away, with clay courts, has been rated the #1 tennis resort as well. Given our location closer to the second gate, fine dining and the historic City of Charleston are all close at hand. Come for a stay!

About Hans Riess
We are a family from Bloomington, Indiana. We have been coming to Kiawah for twenty years and decided to purchase a place of our own after being renters for so long.
Hans Riess purchased this House in 2011
Why Hans Riess chose Vanderhorst Plantation
Kiawah Island is unlike any other vacation destination my family has visited. The beaches are extremely private, there are great dining options on-island and nearby, and the tennis facilities are awesome. The island has a resort-like feel to it, with daily fun-family events and world-class golf, tennis and dining, but also is emersed with wildlife, peace and quiet. Kiawah is also close to Charleston, a very vibrant and historic city. We enjoy going to the South Carolina Aquarium and eating at Hymans's Seafood. The shopping is fabulous! We have visited the island for almost twenty years and we always knew this was the perfect place for our second home.
What makes this House unique
Our home is located past the second gate of the island, which allows for ultimate privacy, but unlike other private Vanderhorst homes, it is very close to the Kiawah Island amenities and restaurants. Our home has an infinity-pool and great outdoor living space which gives you another great way to enjoy the Carolina sun besides the beach.

Fabulous location and lovely home!
Great house and location!
Great property in a culdesac off of the main roads.
Really a nice house!
This is the first time we have rented this house. We have rented other homes in the area before and found this to be a really well appointed house. Everything was in working order and we enjoyed our stay. We would rent here again.
Lovely, comfortable home
We had a wonderful stay. It was unfortunately cut short by Hurricane Matthew, but we certainly enjoyed the time we had at the house. It is well-stocked, with lots of comfortable living space. The pool is the perfect size for an afternoon dip. And the screened-in porch allows you to open the French doors and let the air in while you enjoy dinner. You're just a short bike ride away from the beach. We even made friends with the neighbors while we were there. Loved it!
Fabulous vacation rental!
We had a wonderful girls weekend at this lovely property. The house was beautiful and had everything that we needed. The pool was perfect. The location was just a short walk or ride to the beach. Despite being on the golf course the landscaping made it feel very secluded. Would definitely recommend this property to anyone thinking of spending time in Kiawah.
Thank you for a beautiful vacation for our family.
We just spent a wonderful week in your beautiful, peaceful, well equipped home on Kiawah. It was so quiet we could only hear the birds in the woods. We saw lots of deer on the property. There were 10 of us, all teens and adults except for our 9 year old grandson. He loved the pool and made it easy to entertain him. We could watch him from inside or from the porch. There was plenty of room for us to gather together or have privacy if needed. We rented bikes for the week, went to the beach, made a trip into Charleston, and found lots of places to eat and shop. We spotted an alligator on the bike trail, but rode around it. Makes for a good story to tell! Although we did not need him, it was good to know there was a local property manager. We would highly recommend this home to others and would definitely stay here again if we return to the area.
