This sweet little house has an open floor plan with a sleeping loft and beautiful views looking southwest over Cayuga Lake. Decks on two sides of the house lead to a “flight” of four decks below the house. The kitchen has a small refrigerator, induction burners, small oven, microwave, toaster, blender, coffee maker, and lots of cooking utensils and dishware. The bathroom has a claw-foot tub. On the decks, a gas grill and plenty of chairs and picnic tables for relaxing and entertaining.
Ideal for two, but can sleep four to six: queen mattress in loft, fold-out sofa bed, couch, and camping out in tents on the decks under large shade trees or on the double mattress in the boat house.
Not handicapped accessible: 28 gentle stone steps from the road down to the house, 3 to 6 steps between the decks, steep stairs down to the dock, boat house, and pebble beach, and in the house, a library ladder up to the sleeping loft.
Wifi. No smoking or incense. Pets considered.
Rick and Nancy Lazarus live south of Ithaca and love Cayuga Lake and the sunsets from its east shore. This is our summer lake house, a quiet retreat.
The lake access and views are great, plus Bill George Road is a quiet and wooded road great for walking and bike riding. There are some houses on the lake side and a couple of small gorges. Great blue herons fly up and down the lake every day. Owls hoot at night. Rick is a timber frame barn restorer and he built this charming little house about 10 years ago.
We truly loved our stay and it reminded me so much of a family cabin we
used to enjoy. We have already thought about a return stay so don't be
suprised! Thanks again for sharing your little retreat.
Adorable cottage with great views of the lake. There are multiple decks on the way down to the lake so you can find the perfect spot to view a sunset over the lake; or just enjoy it from the dock! Everything was nice and clean, nicely decorated, with flowers inside and out. The bed up in the loft was very comfortable. The handheld shower took a little getting used to. Nice amenities like kayaks, bikes and gas grill. The owner responded quickly when we had an issue and was very accommodating. Couldn't be nicer.
We (20 something outdoorsy couple) really loved this place. It definitely isn't for everyone; it is basically "glamping" in that the running water isn't potable (plenty of potable water was provided), the cabin isn't insulated, you are kind of remote, etc. But if you are like us, there are definite advantages in those traits. The finger lakes is a beautiful area, especially mid October. Ithaca is a really nice town and an easy drive from this cabin. Wembly is an outdoor cat (whos name tag says "cookie" and has 7 toes on each front paw) that would come by and hang out with us a lot. This cat was quite possibly the favorite part of our vacation. We're both mildly allergic and have always wanted an outdoor cat (apartment dwellers, not an option) so what a surprise when a few times a day Wembly would stroll by, ask for some belly rubs, lounge on the decks with us, go on walks, and then just stroll off. Too cool. He probably liked the cabin because there is definitely a mouse presence, hence one star deduction here. I sympathize with the owner because it is definitely a difficult structure to mouse proof, there are 3 high pitched sound emitters, and there is a cat with overloaded front paws on the hunt yet they still get in. That said, the interior is still really cute, well stocked with knick knacks and doodads, books, maps of the area, all sorts of kitchen things including all the pots and pans you'll need, an induction stove (loved this thing, wish i had one) a microwave, etc. Outside was really nice. We enjoyed sitting on the private deck over the water at night and staring at the stars or moon, taking long exposure pictures and such. Very nice place, would definitely come back again. Maybe earlier in the year to take advantage of the kayaks though!
For the second year in a row we treated ourselves to a week in this cabin. I love how simple things are and how relaxing it is. Nancy makes us feel like long-time family friends. The lake is beautiful, and it is great to have kayaks right there so we don't have to haul our own. We like to use the grill and enjoy easy dinners on the deck. Ithaca is a short drive away, as are plenty of hiking opportunities and wine and cider tastings. This is the place to enjoy a rustic get away!
My husband and I booked this cabin for a long weekend romantic getaway, and we were not disappointed! It is a beautiful, immaculate, well-appointed space to get away from it all and enjoy the lake and spectacular sunsets in peace and quiet. Every detail was perfect and Nancy (and Rick) go out their way to make you feel welcome in their slice of heaven on Cayuga Lake.
We will DEFINITELY be coming back. One of the best vacations I can remember. So incredibly relaxing!!
My girlfriend and I rented this property for a birthday celebration and Nancy was all too happy to make our stay extremely worthwhile. It was very thoughtful of her to prepare a cheesecake just for the occasion. Her cabin is very well equipped with a very homely feel that she has taken a lot of pride in maintaining and improving. The space is ideal for a couple and the loft bed gives a lot of character to the place. The outside area provides a very spacious porch and lower dining area for those warm summer nights, as well as a boat shed with plenty of swimming and kayaking equipment. We had a fantastic time there and even made us want to own a property around the area in the future. I highly recommend his cabin and Nancy's excellent hospitality.
Swim, kayak, bike, walk, dine and relax on the decks and dock. Drive 15-20 minutes to Ithaca, home of Cornell University, Moosewood and many other great restaurants, the Farmers Market, Sapsucker Woods/Cornell Ornithology Lab, Johnson Art Museum, Ithaca College, and good cinema, theater, and music. Our stunningly beautiful area has gorges and waterfalls, parks, bird and animal sanctuaries, wineries and vineyards, breweries, Watkins Glen, the Corning Glass Museum, and the other ten Finger Lakes. Niagara Falls is 2½ hours away and Cooperstown is a 2-hour drive.
Tastings aren’t limited to wines. Besides the Cayuga Lake, Seneca Lake, Keuka, and Canandaigua Wine Trails, there’s the Finger Lakes Cheese Trail, the Finger Lakes Beer Trail, plus tastings of distilled spirits, cider, and juices along the way…and a multitude of good restaurants.
