About The Owner

I am a frequent traveler and use VRBO myself. I am an avid runner, biker, hiker, and thoroughly enjoy sailing and jet skiing.

The Owner purchased this house in 2007

Why The Owner chose West Central

My Grandfather had been coming to Grand Haven since 1912. He passed at the early age of 100 in 2004. He built a grand summer home on Lake Michigan in 1943 and the family continued to add on to the house until the 1990s. With 2 Children, 9 Grandchildren, 18 Great Grandchildren. The house started to become to small for all of my relatives. So, in 2007 my family and sisters family decided to build our own home less than a block away from my Grandfathers.

What makes this house unique

My family and I enjoy walking down to the beach at sunset. Swimming, boating, jet skiing on Lake Michigan. Hiking the trails at Rosey Mound.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Hi Robert,

We really enjoyed your home. The whole gang had loads of fun. The home is so fully equipped, especially the kitchen. We all love to cook and it was such a pleasure to have all the tools and even spices. Very unusual for a rental.

Summer 2016 week in Grand Haven

  • 5 of 5

The location was ideal for our family being near to the beach but not on the beach. The beach was outstanding! The home was very attractive, upscale, and very suited to our needs. The bedroom sets, one set each side of the house with jack & jill bathrooms in between functioned very well for our children and grandchildren. The kitchen was very accommodating and used it on most nights to prepare meals in the home. The property and home were very clean and well maintained. The "great room" was a very comfortable space and thoughtfully laid out. It facilitated family gatherings in the evenings for conversations, games and fun! The basement was a bonus, giving a place for the grandchildren to play and be children. The musical fountain in Grand Haven, and the street performers in Holland are a must see! We would recommend this home to any family looking for their vacation Home Away!

Beautiful well kept home

  • 4 of 5

Had a wonderful family vacation for 6 adults and 4 children

Home well kept and spacious with a lot of unexpected supplies available especially in kitchen

Bedrooms and baths were quite large and work well for our families

The basement was a great playroom but some of the play tables were broke when we arrived

Also we were so excited that beach was within walking distance but when we checked it out the day of arrival. It was very very small length and width

We ended up driving to state park beach every day. That was beautiful

We picked this rental because we could walk to the beach. Since we had 4 children - 5 and under.

We will return to Grand Haven and stay closer to state park beach

Owner's Response: Thank you for your feedback. We are pleased that you enjoyed your stay. Sadly, Lake Michigan is experiencing record high levels that has not happened since the 1980's. This is only the second time in 50 years that I have seen this occur.

Excellent house; family friendly and home-like feel

  • 4 of 5

Overall, we had a great stay at Brucker Street. The house has a great welcoming layout, two bedrooms on either side of the house (jack & jill bathrooms + another bathroom off the kitchen in the center of the house), and the main portion of the house has an open floorplan with a spacious kitchen and family room. The kitchen was one of the best stocked kitchens of any rental we've stayed at; from waffle irons to fondue pot, all basic cooking items (s&p, flour, spices, etc), and tons of plates/cups (both ceramic and plastic which was nice). Two of the bedrooms had very comfortable beds (the twin & King side) and the other side were much too hard (two queens - one was like a rock - needs a topper of some sort). The basement could definitely use some TLC; each of the games down there were broken in a way (the Foosball table still completely operable but top broken, basketball hoop broken, dart board inoperable - no darts, and pool table somewhat sad). Upgrades would really help down here, but our children were small enough that it didn't affect us at all. There were TONS of toys for little children, as well as games for older children - again one of the best stocked houses we've seen in that regard. The backyard is awesome, we spent most of our time out there playing ladderball (we brought) and cornhole (already there). The upstairs TV could use a small speaker system but is very large and has GREAT amenities (Roku, Netflix, etc - all operable). Tons of seating for a multifamily and large carpeted area for playing.

The beach is a relatively short walk (not that far) but from what we heard from others, has really changed with weather over the past year. It was very small and cliff like- still fine for a short play, but we opted to go to the City Beach instead because it's so pristine. Really was no issue, it was a <5-8 min drive away and the house was still priced very fairly for that distance to the beach and for the size of the home. The house is very quiet, dead-end road so little to no traffic coming down the street.

Overall, a very good home, would rent again, and would recommend to others. Some TLC to some areas would be great. Owner was receptive to any inquiries and prompt to get things done. All in all, we have stayed in GH many times and this was a great home that is a good price option to "cottages" that don't offer near as many of the amenities. Upgrade the basement and it would be one of the better ones out there in this price range.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your feedback. We really appreciate you taking the time to review our home. Over the years we have amassed various games and toys that we share with vacation rentals. Originally the basement was intended for personal use and storage. We list the room on the web site as a bonus room for all to enjoy. That said, I appreciate your candid response regarding the condition of the basement as it not on par with the rest of the house. I am now reconsidering access to the basement to for future guest. Sincerely, Robert

Great setup and location

  • 5 of 5

Rented this home for a week during Salmon Fest in Grand Haven. The setup of the house is really nice with two bedrooms (with bathroom in between) on one side of the house and another two bedrooms (with another bathroom in between) on the other side of the house. Gives nice separation if you rent with another family. Also the walk out basement and backyard are full of entertainment for kids and adults. The location is perfect because it is quiet and feels remote on a dead end road but you are only a two block walk to the beach, a short drive to downtown Grand Haven, and a 5 minute drive to places like Meijer, Starbucks, etc along Rt. 31. I would recommend this house to anybody.

Great location and lots of room

  • 5 of 5

Rented home for a family reunion. Worked really well for our group of 8 adults. The walk to the beach is short, the area very quiet, but you are only a couple miles from grocery stores or downtown Grand Haven. House has plenty of room. Next visit to Grand Haven will include staying here.

Grand Haven is rated as one of the top beaches in the United States. Top Golf courses, Great Restaurants, Nightlife, Coast Guard Festival, State parks, Great Fishing, you name and Grand Haven has it.

Also, this area of the Lake is rated as one of the world’s most productive fresh water fisheries.. We Highly recommend Whitney Charters. Matt and Alex are a pleasure to work with and will provide a memorable outing.
