Rented this house to spend a long weekend in Grand Rapids with some of my friends. It is advertised as being able to sleep 16 - I brought 8 and I don't think it could handle any more than that comfortably, especially with only one shower. But the owner was very nice and communicative and the house itself is pretty well equipped for a fun weekend - especially the basement/back yard. It is close enough to destinations like downtown GR, Holland, Gun Lake casino, etc. that we were able to do a bunch of cool things in only 3 days. Overall I had a very good stay.

Liked: Communication, location
Disliked: Listing accuracy
The host was very communicative which we appreciated. When workers needed to come and stop in for something in the storage area, the host communicated and asked our permission. The space was ready for us, but we were called a half hour before arriving saying there were workers present until about 15 minutes before we arrived. The common areas were neat and comfortable. The kitchen had everything expected and needed. We appreciated the towels and bedding. More than one photo of the property had been edited, i.e. the picture of the downstairs queen bed bedroom had the electrical box and exposed wires edited out of the photo. There were several areas of the house like painting and damage that seemed air-brushed from photos. There were also some exposed piping in the downstairs bathroom and a large hold for the sump pump in the basement that were uncovered. From the description on the Vrbo site, I expected 2 full bathrooms. Even though the site says 1 1/2 bathrooms, the description of the bathrooms and their amenities made me think there WAS a shower/tub in the second bathroom. Overall, our stay was pleasant, but there were certainly inconsistencies.

Thank you for taking the time to share your detailed feedback—we truly appreciate your kind words about our communication, the readiness of the space, the neat common areas, the well-equipped kitchen, and the provided towels and bedding. It means a lot that you found your overall stay pleasant.
I sincerely apologize for any confusion caused by the photos. I just noticed that my photographer did edit some things out, and I will have him fix them ASAP to ensure full accuracy.
Regarding the bathrooms, the listing clearly states 1 full and 1 half bath, but I’m sorry the description of amenities led to the expectation of a shower/tub in the second bathroom—I’ll review that wording to make it crystal clear moving forward.
The maintenance team was there working very hard to ensure you had the best experience possible, and you were advised of it in advance; we always aim to request permission for any access to the storage area, as you noted positively.
In Michigan, a sump pump is required by code, and the wires you mentioned were installed professionally by a licensed electrician and inspected by city enforcement for safety. That said, I hear your concerns about the exposed piping, uncovered sump pump access, and any areas that appeared airbrushed in photos. I will work tirelessly to improve the property the best I can to ensure every guest is fully satisfied.
We hope to welcome you back someday with an even better experience!
We booked this stay for our friends, family, and ourselves for our wedding weekend in Grand Rapids, MI. We are originally from Wisconsin so this was about a 6 hour drive for us. My wedding was planned for Saturday 05/25/24 which was the same day we were checking into the rental. Before booking, I contacted the hosts to ensure that we could check in early as we would be arriving between 5 and 6 AM in order to get started with wedding prep and because I had multiple appointments booked (for hair, makeup, etc). When we arrived to the rental, the code for the lockbox would not work. We tried to contact the hosts but did not hear back for quite awhile. We also tried messaging customer service through the Vrbo app but they were unsuccessful in contacting the hosts as well. Finally, one of the hosts called me back and gave me a new code to unlock the lockbox. This code worked and we were finally able to get the key. We thought we were in the clear but we were not! The key only worked to unlock the deadbolt but did not work for the doorknob which was also locked. We waited another hour for the hosts to arrive to let us into the house. In total, we waited 3 hours and were unable to check in early as had been originally agreed upon & paid for. The rental was also not clean and there were insects (dead and alive) all over the floors as well as other signs that made it obvious that the rental had not been properly cleaned prior to our check in.

Thank you for sharing your experience with us. We sincerely apologize for the issues you encountered during your stay. Your wedding day is incredibly important, and we regret that we did not meet your expectations.
Firstly, we apologize for the delay in providing the correct lockbox code and for the additional inconvenience with the doorknob lock. This is not the standard of service we strive to provide. While we understand it was crucial for you to access the rental promptly, especially with a busy schedule of wedding preparations, we acknowledge that you were still able to get in early, though later than initially agreed. We have taken steps to ensure such miscommunication does not happen again.
Regarding the cleanliness of the property, we are truly sorry that you felt it did not meet your expectations. However, we can assure you that the property was thoroughly cleaned prior to your arrival. We believe that the frustration with the late check-in may have contributed to your dissatisfaction in this area.
We hope that the free day given would make up for those couple of hours lost.
Thank you for your patience and understanding. We wish you all the best and hope you consider staying with us again in the future, allowing us the opportunity to provide you with the excellent experience you deserve.
