About this property
Alderbrook Area Waterfront Beach Cottage, All Season Escape- Spectacular Views!!
Pointe Marian Beach Cottage is a charming home on a lovely, no-bank, waterfront property with absolutely breathtaking mountain views. Located 3 miles from the Alderbrook Resort, this picturesque retreat is a quick ferry ride or easy drive from Seattle. Despite its proximity to the city, it seems like a million miles away.
Pointe Marian features 2 beautifully appointed bedrooms on the first floor, both furnished with king size beds.
The living room offers a rare treat, a hide-a-bed that WASN'T purchased at a dungeon equipment sale.
The upstairs loft bedroom has a queen size bed and two twin beds--perfect for a couple or a whole family.
You'll love the cozy decor and the cooks in your group will rave about the well-equipped kitchen with a million dollar view!
This romantic cottage will melt your stress away. A jewel perched on the most beautiful stretch of the Hood Canal, the Great Bend, Pointe Marian's vistas will take your breath away. Cuddle by the antique parlor stove and watch the ever-changing variety of water fowl and marine mammals through the huge picture windows. Snap a picture of a harbor seal dozing in the sun. Dine with friends by chandelier light on the deck. Take a dip in the balmy water on a late summer's night.
For those who want to explore the waterways, you'll find a kayak launch on-site. Or, if you don't have kayaks or paddle boards, you can rent them just a short drive away at Alderbrook Resort. If you'd like to bring your motor boat, you'll find the public boat launch just a mile up the road.
Want to go for a drive? Wine tasting and shopping are just minutes away in Hoodsport. Or head up to the Alderbrook Resort for a spa day.
In the mood for a hike? One of the most beautiful and untouched wilderness areas in the world is just up the Peninsula. For an easy picturesque hike, head down to Twanoh State Park on Highway 106.
Are there golfers in your group? Set them loose at the famous Alderbrook Golf Course.
Perhaps you'd like to take an easy stroll from the cottage? Just a mile down the road is to Dos Margaritas Mexican restaurant, a great spot for lunch or dinner. Stop to browse in the antique store on the way.
Right next door to the Mexican restaurant is the Union City Market. Here you’ll find wonderful local art and handmade crafts, as well as delightful local foods and wines.
Then cross the street to the Union Country Store for an ice cream cone (Pointe Marian guests love the Lemon Chiffon) and peruse the quirky collection of merchandise.
Whether you're eager to get out and explore or you prefer to laze away the days relaxing at the water's edge with a book, you'll want to make Pointe Marian Beach Cottage a regular destination!

Great location! Cute and homey cottage right on the water. Lots of nice touches. Kitchen has everything you need. Owner was very responsive and easy to work with. We’d stay here again!
Staying at Kathy's cottage was so wonderful the whole cottage was unbelievably perfect! My husband and I rented it so that our kids and grandkids could come and spend the time with us! I loved the boho bungalow Gypsy feel of the whole place and it was so well equipped. We definitely would love to come back maybe for a Christmas gathering.
This cozy waterfront cottage was everything we were looking for. Our house was being renovated. Beautiful location. Enjoyed sitting on the deck and relaxing watching the view and wild life.
We stayed at the cottage for five nights. Really enjoyed the proximity to the canal and the beautiful views. Also, enjoyed watching the seals on a daily basis. Even watched one catch and eat a large fish, with seagulls watching for leftovers. The host was most gracious and easy to reach when we needed to. The only down side was the fire above Cushman Lake that sometimes impacted our views and activities we wanted to engage in.

This was the second time we have stayed at the beach cottage. It never disappoints. Kathy, you have a gem of a property!! Thank you for sharing your home with us. We made wonderful memories!
Ever-changing views of the water and mountains were spectacular! Saw a bald eagle try to steal a fresh-caught fish from an osprey in mid-flight. Seals and otters were seen swimming and sunning themselves everyday. The house was welcoming in every way, as was the owner. Great for all ages!

Perfect for Girls' Weekend
Excellent spot for a girls' weekend. There was plenty of space to chill and relax. Lots of beds and plenty of parking -- the whole crew came along! My favorite part (besides the view) was the big dining room and open kitchen: a little cooking, a little wine, and lots of chatting. Bonus: The pantry was stocked with ingredients to best my foodie kitchen! The view was amazing. Highly recommend!

Perfect House for a perfect vacation
Our stay at Point Marian was so wonderful! Every single thing we wanted was provided including a lovely, delicious bottle of wine on arrival to a spare sweatshirt for a chilly morning! The canal was a never ending source of oohs and ahhs with a revolving cast of wildlife right in front of the deck! Sea Hawks, Bald Eagles, Heron, Seal and even a mom and baby deer visited us during our stay. We spent a day exploring the Olympic Forest, kayaked and just relaxed. Thank you for your beautifully decorated and accommodating home. I hope will be able to return someday.

Gorgeous house, welcoming, flexible owner
This was by far the best rental experience we’ve ever had. Beyond being an amazing house with gorgeous views, the personal touches throughout the home— the homey smell, cute and helpful notes, well stocked kitchen— and the kind and helpful interactions with the owner, made the experience feel like a real vacation. I polled my family and they said it was: welcoming, cozy, comfortable, and charming. We never felt like we were walking on egg shells. And the views. Sunrise, sunset, seals, eagles, planets, stars. A full Sound, sometimes a vanished Sound. There is so much to see in the area, but we could’ve stayed on the deck every minute. We will definitely come back!

Gorgeous spot for relaxing!
My husband and I came to Pointe Marian with our parents and our puppies for a little mini-vacation. We spend the days captivated by the mountain/water view, playing with our puppies in the water, cooking delicious food, watching some classic film noir, talking with each other, drinking wine, and taking lots of naps. It was totally rejuvenating. We felt like we were thousands of miles from our stressful jobs and spent much more time watching seagulls break open clams on the rocks below the house than we spent thinking about work. We highly recommend this place for a getaway--especially if you have a pooch you want to have with you on your vacation. Also, if you're more ambitious than we were, this would be a great base for some hiking day trips in the Olympic mountains. We may actually tear ourselves away from the house to do this ourselves next time we visit. We'll definitely be back!

The perfect spot
This home sits on the Great Bend of the Hood Canal, it is the perfect location to explore the estuary of the Skokomish River by Kayak, the home even has a ramp for launching Kayaks. The home itself is more than comfortable, well equipped kitchen, comfortable beds, and unsurpassed views of the canal and mountains beyond. The first night there we were, treated to an incredible sunset, a sunset no painter could do justice to. All during our stay we were treated to a show by the seals that hang around on a raft anchored in the bay, this included flipper slap fights that would do the 3 Stooges proud. The house has an eclectic movie collection that has something for all tastes. My one and only negative is the lack of internet, my traveling companion had a work issue that had to be addressed, we had to resort to driving to the library in Belfair to gain access. That issue aside I would absolutely recommend this property.

Hi Tom,
Thank you for the review!
We're so glad you you all had such a good time (the 3 Stooges analogy cracked us up!). We really appreciate your input regarding the internet. We've given the subject a lot of thought, but ultimately made the decision to make Point Marian a 'reality free zone". No cable and no internet.
We find our guests actually appreciate being unplugged- a more and more rare state of being in this plugged in world. Happily, for those internet emergencies, there's the Union Square Deli. It's about 1.5 miles away, has WiFi and is open 7AM to 8 PM daily. Also, they have beer on tap and make a killer pizza. Thanks to your input, I'll be posting a note about the deli on the fridge :-) Hope to have you back!

Problem with owner
This property is in a very scenic location and has a lovely deck. It is an older and quite small house. The owners have done a very good job decorating it and the house is well stocked with kitchen essentials and goodies. The house itself is quite comfortable, but will not, in my opinion, accommodate more than 4 or 5 people because of the small size.
I would have given this property more stars but for the fact that it is situated in very closed proximity (just accross a gravel driveway) to two other cabins and there is little privacy when the neighboring cabins are occupied. There is also no place to hike or walk from the property itself. I also had a dispute with the owner over the deduction of a cleaning fee which was supposed to have been included in the nightly rental amount.

Response from VrboOwner on 2 Apr, 2020
Dear Ray,
Thank you for taking the time to write a review.
We're so glad you found the cottage to be so well appointed and comfortable and enjoyed the decks and beautiful the view.
It's true that Pointe Marian is a comfortable, cozy cottage.
With two bedrooms downstairs, an attic bedroom that can accommodate an entire family and a very comfy hide-a-bed, we find it sleeps up to 10 family members or friends quite easily.
It's also true that, like most highly sought after waterfront properties, we do have other homes nearby. We have been SO fortunate to have such wonderful and welcoming neighbors. From aiding in emergency boat repair to giving a pint-size guest his first fishing lesson, you couldn't ask for nicer folks.
As for walks and hikes- we are an easy 1 mile stroll to 'downtown' Union. There you'll find a funky antique store, a great Mexican restaurant, the marina for renting kayaks, a boat launch and the famous Union Country Store for your ice cream fix. While it's true that you can't step out the door onto a hiking trail, here are trails for all fitness levels at Twanoh, Alderbrook and Lake Cushman, all within a short driving distance. We're also at the entrance to the Olympic National Park, one of America's largest old growth forests.
Thank you, again, for taking time to give us your feedback.
All the best to you and yours,
The Pointe Marian Family
Thank you so much for the wonderful hospitality with the house and all the ementities included. We wanted for nothing. Our family was able to stay to have fun kyacking, hiking trails close by, shopping and lots of relaxation watching the wildlife. Five star!!!
This is the perfect property for a couple or family get away. The hosts provide all kinds of dishes, cook wear, glasses, and kitchen gadgets and spices that allow you to cook a family meal just like you were at home. The house has a great deck with several tables and lots of chairs so family can have meals outside, watch the sun rise & sets or the wildlife that swim by. You will always see lots of seals & eagles. There is a great sand box & toys for kids and a boat ramp to launch your kayak and explore the canal & tide lands. We like this house so much we book a stay every summer.
Beautiful views of mountains..sunsets..wildlife..cottage well stocked..lots of games..movies..books
An enjoyable family vacation

About the host
Hosted by Kathy
We are the Wells family--Darrell and Kathy, Peggy and Bill and the kids. We're proud to call the Seattle area home and love to explore the limitless beauty of our region.
Why they chose this property
Having a little waterfront cottage has always been our family dream. We found this gem the summer of 2011 while vacationing on the Hood Canal. Before we knew it, we were the proud owners of Pointe Marian Beach Cottage, a place we named it in honor our mom/grandma/great-grandma. She was a passionate fisher-woman and had a deep kinship with nature. She would have loved this place. We are honored to share it with you. We hope you'll make some wonderful memories of your own here.
What makes this property unique
We all live for the times we can spend relaxing with our family at Pointe Marian. As owners of a 70 year old waterfront house, though, we also spend a good deal of time working on maintaining and improving the place. The biggest problem Bill and Kathy have is keeping Darrell and Peggy on task when they'd rather be bird-gazing. One of our favorite things is getting up at dawn to watch the seals as they awake on our neighbor's swim float.
